Brown bears feed at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park and Preserve

The Brooks Falls Wildlife Viewing Platform at Brooks Camp offers visitors of Katmai National Park and Preserve a rare glimpse of brown bears close up in the wild. The site is a passage for sockeye salmon returning from the ocean, to the spawning grounds of Lake Brooks. Brown bears are known to gather at the falls during the salmon runs in July and September to feed on the plentiful fish. The area is also known for it's archaeological site containing some of the oldest human remains in North America dating approximately 9,00 years old.

Since moving to Alaska several years ago, we've been fortunate to have opportunities to venture all over this great state. Hands down, Brooks Falls and Katmai National Park have been the highlight of our travels. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Alaska.

Great footage! Thank you so much!!! On Explore.org it is truly amazing to do the bears for viewers. The fish were really jumping! Always the lip catchers on the falls! Cubs are the BEST!!! Grazer last summer was very awesome as a Mom to 3 little brave ones! Can't wait for this summer 2018

Pro trick: you can watch movies on flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.

You know your Sushi is fresh when it's still moving 🐟🍱 That is one of the bigger Bears I've seen in the footage from Katmai. You'd want to give that boy ( or girl) a WIDE berth. WOW ...that's a lot of bear. You can see how long the claws are as it holds the fish against the rock. Gorgeous...from a distance 😳

Ibrahim Hoti you are absolutely right. The bear should have killed the fish, washed it, removed the guts and pan fried it with butter. Smh he’s eating it raw and alive.

Baileyboo was actually correct. Fish don't possess the physiological capacity in the brain to detect pain in the same sense that humans do. Granted, some degree of pain is certainly endured, one can assume that the levels of pain would differentiate greatly in comparison to the same type of injury/death inflicted to a human, or any other mammal for that matter. I also agree with Baileyboo in terms of his nature argument; this is survival of the fittest in it's purest form. That bear, and all apex predators, respect life much more than humans, and will not kill any animal unless it will provide for food OR if it endangers the well being of the safety of him/her (or it's offspring).

This is outright animal cruelty. Salmons should have been deboned first, it can be extremely dangerous for them to swallow such small fish bone fragments.
