I still have day dreams about what an AR-10 in 280 British would have looked like. Such a crying shame Stoner wasn't given a proper chance back in the 50s.

The SR -25 first saw action in the 1993 conflict in Mogadishu Somalia, where it stopped an armed gang attack, with three quick shots , three men armed with automatic weapons dropped instantly, the crowd stopped advancing, then as others ran up to attempt to pick up the weapons from the ground they too dropped instantly ,and the crowd backed away, and the team was saved from being over ran by the SR-25! Actually in August of 1995 SOCOM units ordered an early contract of SR-25's ! At that time production was 30 rifles a month. So it was a huge contact at that time. The commercial sales help the funding for the development cost for the benefit of the military units. So Stoner was alive to see his rifle seen adopted by the military unit. And was aware of every current development of the advancement of his weapons design at that time. I know from being there for a fact, having him looking over my shoulder !

Definitely love what brownells has been doing with their retro line. Working on piecing together a XM16E1 build. But that BRN10 is a wonder. Original AR10 rifles are way out of reach for most enthusiasts.

No COnsideration?? Portugal was about to arm its entire army with ar-10s when the dutch decided to stop exports of arms.... We were literally forced to chose the G3 because of that. Even today when we speak with old veterans, they will still say that the Ar-10 was superior to the G3 by a long shot.

Brownell's has been really rocking it lately, kudos to them and what a beautiful rifle.

I imagine the buffer spring alone should be another reason why there wasn't a forward assist on the AR-10 platform. I have a B series AR-10 (A2 look), and a PA-10 rifle and I really needed to pull to chamber a round on a closed bolt

I know this video is two years old, but it is one HELL of a fine one. Dealing with the history of this caliber firearm and how it finally got its day in the sun. It is such a shame the people most responsible for the firearm being a reality did not live to see this most outstanding weapon design truly come into its own. All because of a ( A, H ) politician who was not looking for what was best for our service and its people. No it was his way and only his way. Yes this should have been our service firearm. Oh wow, now I know why I was so impressed with the look of the Eagle Arms AR-15A1 in the 1995 Gun Buyer's Guide I used to drool over back when I was 15. It was the one AR-15 I wanted the most listed in that whole catalog. I'm really interested in that Air Force style AR-15 that Brownell's released as well.

You're review is right on. I'm just as excited as you are to see this AR10 repro. In regards to comparison with the M14 again you are 100% correct. Yet, you were a little hard on the M14...there is no doubt the AR10 is better, but if you were issued, trained on and served with an M14 you get an emotional attachment to it as a soldier, and at least the M14 served adequately , at most, a trusted companion. In the hands of a proper rifleman , the politics is forgotten. Cheers!

I think these are awesome looking for what they are even if they are not 100% to the original. It’s as close anyone will ever get using modern materials. I’d love to own one eventually. I just purchased an XBRN-16E1 because of family history in the Vietnam War. If the rifle turns out to be as great as I know it will be I will definitely try to collect the entire series of these retro builds. Great review as always. Brownells is doing an awesome job.

19:57 - 20:27 this bit really got me. The level of genius required to invent something that would be cutting edge 60 years later... Damn. I'm building my own AR10 off Aero parts right now, after already having built my first AR15 last year and getting hooked on the hobby. The lineage of these rifles is such a tale, and their design still blows my mind in 2019. Thanks for doing these presentations. The knowledge you've accumulated is invaluable and these stories are fascinating. Channels like yours got this gen Z kid into firearms.

I really like what brownells is doing with this retro series of rifles. I really love the classic ARs, and to bring back this history is truly amazing. I don't know how brownells does for such a low price but I hope they continue to do it. I really want one of these rifles.

OP, you are the most knowlegeable guy making youtube posts on these old weapons. If I ever decide to buy another 7.62 x 51 rifle I may send some money to Brownells. Also interested in their M-16 retro rifle although the price seems a bit high. At least Brownells is stepping up and trying to give us some more choices. Takes guts for a company to do so.

Just received my BRN-10A last week. Haven't been to the range. Can't keep my hands or eyes off of it. Currently on sale for around $1300.00. Wasn't crazy about the brown furniture, but I wanted the fluted barrel and 3 prong flash hider. I also ordered a black furniture set, but getting the butt plate screw out of the buffer tube is causing me grief. I guess I'll leave the brown on and just use the heat shields that came with the black furniture. The brown is really starting to grow on me anyway.

Best Ar-10 I have had the pleasure of running is the m&p10. Most accurate as well. It was shot for shot as accurate as a 20in barreled aero precision an it had a 16 in 5r barrel. Love the whole retro line from Brownells. I really want one of their brn180s

I know that these videos must take an incredible amount of time to do the research and put it all together even though you have a special insight from working for Colt. Very much appreciate your insight! Question, after a year would you still consider the Brownell to still be the best AR10 type rifle on the market? Or would you steer towards another variation from another manufacturer? I ask because I own a DPMS variant and quite frankly its a heavy beast! I've been considering getting another AR10 type rifle and would love your input!

A picture of one in the Middle East held by an insurgent. LMT's MWS seems to be an improvement over the SR-25. The UK recently adopted the LMT as its designated Marksman Rifle! I like the Quick change barrel on the LMT. But I still waiting for LMT to get caught up so I can buy a 6.5 Creedmore Barrel for my MWS. Cheers

A local shop had a Portugese AR10 sitting in the back, I am not sure if it needed repairs or who's it was, the owner wasnt in and the kid who was working didn't know anything about it or even what it was. When I go back hopefully it will still be there I am going to try and buy it, if the owner will entertain an offer

I, too, drooled a little bit when I first saw the announcements, but in reality this retro is just not practical for me. I suppose I will come closest to an M110 clone, with brown furniture, perhaps. Will that forend be compatible with other AR pattern .308s?

Bit of extra info: Fairchild aircraft did a cross licensing agreement. Deal was Fairchild got the license to produce the Fokker F27 turboprop and Artillerie Inrichtingen ( basically like a government arsenal like Engfield and Springfield) was given a license to produce the AR10. BTW, AI had been in business for centuries. Second; Dutch government closed down production of small arms production in 1961 or 1962. This was the end of the Dutch adventure for the AR10 Last week I had in my hands an almost mint civilian AR10 and it was referred t by the dealer as a second generation civilian AR10 in semi auto. Looked a lot like a Portugese/NATO version. Dealer is looking into exporting it to the USA. Dutch price around 2500 EUROS..........

To bad Mr. Stoner isn't still around to see this.

I have a Eagle Arms AR carbine, they did not stake the gas key bolts, mainly use its lower for my RRA 20" upper which is a gem.

Ar 10's and 15's have always been underappreciated.

I don't think your AR10 likes Heather, keeps pelting her with brass. I'm glad you cleared up why Brownells isn't using the grey finish, however maybe they can see if Troy might help. The grey finishes Troy uses on their retro builds are pretty close at least when I compared the finish of their M16A2 Carbine clone to my 1971 production Colt SP-1.

Will this rifle function with 7.62x51? Brownells specifies .308 Winchester as the caliber. I know with that raging P.O.S. boat anchor M1A / M14 you must use 7.62 with 147 grain bullets. A specific load for that rifle. Thanks man great videos and great history!
