Disassembly and cleaning of my Browning BAR in .308 caliber. My Dad gave it to me a few weeks back. The scope is damaged but the gun is in fine shape. I am searching a scope that will be good hunting and long range shooting. The current scope is 3x9.

I checked out you video again today. Haven't tried the overhaul yet because I know this is going to take some time to complete. This was my Dad's Elk Gun he used in Colorado. One shot drop! Can't use it for Minnesota woods too much brush with scope. Thank you again for the video!

Thanks, for the video. Helped a lot! Looked a little tricky at first. Watch the video. took my time, everything went smooth. Mine Is chambered in ,338 win mag! Shot 25 rds! Yesterday, with 200gr,225gr&300gr! Noticeable difference. In the 300gr. Was in a indoor range and the shockwave sound! was unlike, anything I have ever heard. at any range. Super cool gun! Extremely well made! One of my favorites. Best of luck.🍻

Great job , thank you for sharing your knowledge . I currently own a new Bar in .243 , Mark 3 Stalker . The manual is not very specific about disassembly. It appears they don’t want you to reach the gas piston inside the block . Good idea about anti seizing grease for threads on the regulator nut . Other than leaning , it’s a pleasure to shoot . Cleaning however, is a slow process. Thank you again . 😊

Thank you! My grandfather just passed down his .270 BAR to me, to which I am more than grateful for and will cherish, but it is in much need of a thorough cleaning. This isn't quite the same breakdown as the AR style weapons so your detailed video is appreciated.

What a terrific video, I have three of these at the shop I work at, waiting for cleaning and I haven't done one before so I spotted your video and it was VERY complete. Looks like the only thing I will be concerned about is that pin that secures the firing pin .
@lifeintnchevalier
@lifeintnchevalier Жыл бұрын
That little pin can be a bugger the first time. What makes it though is the angle the ends are ground on. Makes it tough to center the punch.

Thanks for your comment. Installing the bolt was caught on another camera but the SIM card was corrupted. That video showed the detail of sliding the bolt back in. That seems to be an issue with some that are reassembling. I will do a followup video in a few months. I hope that helps. Regards Jack

How often does a rifle need this deep cleaning? i clean my rifle after every hunt, but just curious how often it needs this indepth cleaning?
@lifeintnchevalier
@lifeintnchevalier 7 ай бұрын
That is very hard to say. Allot has to do with how many rounds it fires. Most of the cleaning needed is at the gas block area. This is the area that gets dirty from the carbon from each round. On mine, I will take it down after 30 rounds to inspect the gas block area. Based on what I find will help me decide my next cleaning. Unlike my AR15, it gets a complete cleaning after shooting it. Mainly because the gas pressure gets to the bolt area and makes a mess. The BAR bolt area stays much cleaner because of the actuating arms. That being said, I know a few people that have never taken the bolt apart or even seen the gas block area and there BAR drops deer every year. Regards Jack

Soak the boulon in powder solvent overnight. If it has a round head use a channel lock. Put the gas block in a vise so you do not stress the weld to the barrel. Also you might have to tap the piston out. Try a hardwood dowel or a hard plastic dowel to avoid damage to the piston. Good luck.

Does it cycle in the next round? If not, it may need a good cleaning and lube. If it does, i would check the front of the bolt for debris and the surfaces the bolt seats when it returns to battery.

I have a Belgium-made BAR that I have disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled many times. Today I’m having trouble getting the bolt back into the frame so I watched this hoping to find out what I’m doing wrong. Unfortunately, you recorded blowing the frame with air, spraying with oil and rubbing with a towel, but then you stopped recording, put the bolt in the frame, and then started recording again, saying “now the bolt is in place.” That was the only thing I wanted to see and it happened when the camera was off! WHY??

Understood. Also, when reinserting the regulator it would held the viewer to know which end goes in first. The slotted or the channeled end. Its not mentioned in the video and too far away to see. This rifle is driving me nuts and will probably end up on GB before the week! @@lifeintnchevalier

There is always one! That is a huge bolt that needs a big screw driver. If you ever removed one that’s was stuck, you would reach the driver that fits the best and sports a heavy handle. The Craftsman did just fine. Less of a driver may have slipped and damaged the screw.
