Sweet little town! Brownsville is located on US Route 40, also known as The National Road. It was the first "paved" route extending from Maryland and ending in Illinois. It was the first federally funded highway and opened up what was then the interior of the United States. There are still a number of buildings in Brownsville and the surrounding area that were built at the same time as the road.

Slightly creepy and spooky, but fascinating. I didn't see one person walking anywhere; like a post-apocalypse zombie movie !

Even though all of these buildings look haunted, this neighbourhood still feels far more peaceful and safe than any street of Compton, LA or Belmont, Detroit.

Eerie, yet beautiful at the same time. I wonder what it would be like living in a place like that, as I imagine there are a handful of residents still left. Since the tax base is largely destroyed, I would imagine municipal services are "slim to none." Though it was interesting to note the fire department vehicle at the beginning.

Also not far from here. It used to be “the hub” back in the coal mining days. It does have a castle though. Nemacolin Castle. :) Have you driven through downtown Monessen? Pretty bad there as well.
