First of all, my friend. The JB reference in your name wins for me. Secondly, I truly appreciate the kind words AND the sub. Both mean a lot. It might sound corny, but there's magic in music. It's not easy to teach that magic. I'm not entirely sure if it can be taught, but I genuinely love music and feel fortunate to make my living as a musician. I think when you see that genuine emotion in an artist, it becomes infectious. Maybe that's part of the magic?

There's only one place it could all have come from and only one place it can all go, yet so many flirt with thinking we might not all be God in the flesh with all that ability at our fingertips (however intermittently). In a word, magic works, though. You're the first person to recognize where my nic here comes from. I got a second email of talknloud, had it now for probably 25 years, still no one gets it. Hey Tul. I have to be honest. I still have trouble muting the strings, especially when I play 6-string. I've tried to use the 'floating thumb' technique, but it's just not for me. I finally relented and bought a couple of fret wraps. If you are interested, you should probably find lessons on the floating thumb technique. I think Todd Johnson has a great videos all about it. I wish I could be more help. 😒

@@richbrownbass that's actually cool to hear you acknowledge that you struggle with it on 6 string. I think it was your modes video i was watching and i remember thinking "he's a little messy with his muting"... but it just make you feel more relatable when everything isn't always perfect. :-) I found floating thumb to be pretty natural to me, i only intentionally use it on 5 string and i sometimes have to stop myself from using it on 4 string when i don't mean to. I've never tried 6 string. which bass are you most comfortable with and which do you enjoy most? I love hearing you play the 6.

@@richbrownbass I had been there a handful of times, and I think I saw you backing a couple different musicians/combos each time. No matter what was going on, I remember you being a real standout and you'd really drawn my ear into the mix. I'm still a jazz neophyte, but I do believe the 3 or so times I'd seen you had sensibly schooled me. I wish you many more occasions to impress and edify.
