Thanks so much for saying that. People need to know that it is not a risk to adopt horses that have been there longer or are older. Older means calmer too, and the ones who've been their longer have a lot of experience at getting along with others. They need homes and love just as badly, if not more. So thank you. ❤

My lesson program has adopted quite a few blm mustangs and they turn into amazing lesson horses! They’re super smart so once trained they know how to take care of their riders. I want to be like you when I grow up and adopt wild mustangs, give them a second chance, and find them new homes!

Just discovered you, honey, and this video has gained you a new subscriber. Your compassion and empathy are tangible and i couldn't agree any more with your confusion and sadness. Such a heartbreaking thought that they know nothing but a holding lot. i wonder if the Skydog Sanctuary would be able to help get them out of there. That is no life for these magical, mystical creatures... i look forward to having a binging session of your videos soon. 🩵☘️🥀

I went and watched a "mustang adoption event" in Richmond on Saturday, Jun 17. I was VERY impressed with how placid the donkeys were! I had thought they would be vicious and frantic, but they just stood around looking at me, and I could tell they were evaluating ME the same way I was evaluating THEM. They were also 12-12:3 hands tall. I think they actually understand that people looking at them are interested in giving them a better life. I think I would consider adopting one in the future. The horses (aka ponies) were, as expected, frantic and nervous.

It breaks my heart when any animal is for too long overlooked. I can only guess that like shelter dogs and cats, there are too many available BLM mustangs? Those 9 yr-olds don’t know any other life, but I hope someone will give them a 2nd chance. If for sale vs adoption means what I think, I hope they’re not also at risk.

Hey, your comment really isn't fair. Think about how your comment might affect her- she nearly damn well cried on camera and obviously if she was able, she would've. Taking on THREE wild horses at the same time isn't something anyone should do honestly, no matter how experienced. Especially these mares, each one of them is going to need 100% of their adopter's attention to be able to move forward.

#0901 moves and appears to behave the same way my girl did in her holding video. I was favoring horses that appeared more anxious because I want to help the more reactive ones. The ones that might take more than a few months to gentle. Great video and yeah… I wish I was ready for another horse to train but my priorities are to our two mustangs and the farm currently. I just keep an eye open and look over all the horses in the IAs. For practice.

I adopted a mare from an online auction a couple years ago. There were several from the Devil’s Garden HMA that were born in holding. Some were listed as born on May first some July first and some August first. I suspect that is when they were rounded up and branded for the first time and all the foals to that day were given the same “birthday” in the same as all Mustangs caught in the wild are considered born on January first. I’ve noticed it with other auctions that foals from the same holding facility born at the facility will have the same birth date. I don’t have a big problem with the horses being in holding long term because they are well provided for. They have big pastures to move around on and don’t have to work too hard for their next meal or travel long ways for water. If there are 35,000 horses living in holding and they have an auction every other month and each auction lists 350 animals for bid, that’s 2,100 per year if the other in person events were able to double that you’re still looking at eight years to come even close to emptying the corrals and that’s if you never added another. I don’t know what the answer is but the current system doesn’t seem sustainable.

I think with the ones born in the facility, the birthdates aren’t exact, but they round or something, because I’ve noticed before that a bunch of 2 yr olds were listed with the same birthday, so it must be rounding to the week or month or something. But it’s so sad that they’ve been in holding that long
@Polopony20.
@Polopony20. Жыл бұрын
My theory for the birthday thing they dont mark their actual birthdays, they mark when they're processed (IE a mare has a foal on March 30th, another mare on March 31rst and the third in early April. all foals get the birthday of April 10 because thats when they were checked over and added to the system)

In the last IA I won my bid on #1511, Gelding, Born at Facility & 8 yo. I won my bid but I got an email from the BLM that he had a left hind end injury & would not be ridable. I could not take him since I am not set up for a "pasture pet" right now. I am hoping in the future to adopt him. I feel bad about the three 9 year old mares & that I could not adopt 1 of them but no close pick up in New England. I did adopt their "Replacement" pick for me & he is awesome.

You can ask a question on each individual horse. I have a suspicion that when they upload the data they get a drop down menu and clicked the wrong selection. Also, I'm guessing they clipped the tails and manes on a lot of the horses at Wheatland. Who knows why, and it's just a guess on my part. Maybe too much mud and they're just trying to protect them??? I have no idea, but I'm sure they do.

Mustangs can make excellent beginner horses, but take a professional with you to pick out a gentle minded personality if you go this route. My mom adopted a mustang and owned him his whole life for 23 years, and this horse was like born a unicorn. They are out there. But if you don’t know what you’re doing have someone you know can train, gentle, and help.

@Minenochka

By my own research and understand (however please note I could be very wrong) adopting a mustang means ownership still belongs to the government. The horse has to stay in the U.S for a year, with the same adopter and is protected from any slaughter. Once the horse gains a title (after that one year) ownership transfers and then it is like any other horse to be sold and bought. Horses for sale (usually the ones over the age of ten), means that ownership is directly transferred to the person who bought it, and the horse is not protected by the government at all.

Thank you so much for your video. Sadly, now I am nearly crying myself to sleep each night #2772 Roan Red 13 yr old has me torn up inside. I have fallen in love with her face, and watching to clock ticking away is giving me anxiety. I have never had a horse, and don't have the location to provide one a home. But this girl is tearing at my heart. What happens to these horses when they are not purchased? Do you know of anyone who would get one and allow someone to "sponsor" it? I could not cover the entire cost of having her, but could provide the adoption fee and provide some monthly support. Oh how I wish I had not watched this video and then been silly enough to go to the BLM site. I truly do appreciate you, your efforts, and in the long run-this video, I just feel like I need to find someone who is equipped to take her. I seriously want to blow up her "head shot" and make a poster of her. I have already reached out to a friend who is a horse person, sadly he is aging and said he could not commit to the horse. Are local rescues able to adopt these animals? Oh how my heart aches for #2772.

It's a shame those horses have known no other life. But. Better than the slaughter pipeline. Sadly I'm not in a position to adopt a mustang. Or I certainly would. Like you I have color preferences. Palomino first. I own 1 and did own 4 palominos at one time. When you were mentioning your favorites you mentioned 'grilla' which I thought I misheard. I've never heard grullo(grew low) pronounced that way. Is that a local pronunciation or a slang? I'm curious.

I’m surprised that Given the rage you’d think they were shipped off to one of these prison programs where they could be broken in.. Oh for goodness sake, can’t wait get them started and then use them for things like the border patrol, Forest service et cetera i.e. instead of spending money buying horses when they’ve got thousands in holding. Take these horses have not been adopted, get them under attack get them started and they have the right temperament for job get them working for the United States government. There is no reason why these Mustangs, especially some of the taller ones with very quiet nature is couldn’t make excellent police horses. Why did the federal government go through what is available to pick out the ones which are suitable and take them straight off the roster and straight into training and then out on the beat.
