I saw The Jam at the Top Rank Suite in Birmingham ,November 1977 on their first UK tour . Bruce and Rick were at the bar before their performance (Paul was nowhere to be seen) I'll never forget how friendly and approachable they both were , they were happy to chat and signed my ticket. Top geezers👍

I started playing bass at 13 years old, because I was crazy about The Jam & embarrassingly, I wanted to be like Bruce Foxton. I`ve never stopped playing & I never will as long as I have fingers that work. Thank you Bruce, for introducing me to my best friend & lifelong companion.

Awesome To Hear This Thank You!! Just a quick thought to share for such an amazing talent. Bruce made a "massive difference" for myself after seeing both The Jam and The Clash in 1979 way out here in S.California. I was "more than fortunate" to be in a support band that opened up for The Jam @ Perkins Palace in Pasadena,Calif. We opened up for them on the 3rd night( which was added late..after the 1st two nights sold out. A dream come true for me and my mate in our band. He was a Gentleman..funny,,easy to talk to, No pretenses or bullshit. I would to also mention that his work in SLF was fantastic and I personally feel..often over looked!! So Cheers for Bruce on a and a Big Cheers to Bruce for being such an inspiration to me and so many others who have had the opportunity to hear his work. Happy Holidays To All & Stay Well!!

Bruce’s bass playing was immense in the sound of the jam songs he’s a mean bass player and always was . Still my favorite band of the time Brilliant 👍

For me Bruce and Rick, we're just as important to the Jam as Weller. Most of the Jams sound was Bruce's bass lines, and Rick's drums. And Bruce, thank you for Smithers Jones.

See them in 1976 ! .. at my local collage backing a group called ‘ little Bob story ‘ .. they were great so much so that I don’t even recall the main band at all . After this I followed them everywhere .. Rotterdam the lot .. had a drink with Bruce at the bar ( pint of cider ) .. and once in the early days , we never had tickets for a gig at the Dome in Brighton , Paul’s Dad see us peering though windows trying to get in .. he let the 4 of us in and told us to stand at the side of of the stage for the whole gig .. non of us obviously had cameras etc … what memories I might of had if we did ..

Bruce is one of my favourite Bassists, and I had the immense pleasure of seeing Bruce and the boys in action last night at the O2. Absolutely fantastic gig and well worth the misery inflicted by the railways getting there and back. I hope to see them again next year. Bass lines to Tube Station, Butterfly Collector, Eton Rifles and Tales from the Riverbank are some of my favourites of all time

How were The Skids?
@mickymondo74637 ай бұрын
@@VincentRE79 They were great, loads of energy, and bloody funny! The only thing I didn't like about the night was £7.85 for a pint of Camden Brewery Pale Ale, which was the closest thing they had to real beer, and tasted like it had already been through someone first!
@VincentRE797 ай бұрын
@@mickymondo7463 The Skids have probably made one of the best comebacks of all the early Punk bands, must have been a great night. I try and avoid drinking too much at gigs these days, have recently paid £8 for a pint.
@mickymondo74637 ай бұрын
@@VincentRE79I saw Buzzcocks at the O2 in Bristol in 2014 at an all dayer with Anti Nowhere League, Subhumans, Tenpole Tudor, and I think GBH, who I had last seen in 83 at the Rowing Club in Nottingham with UK Subs. SO I consider myself lucky to have seen them before Pete Shelley died. I was due to see Bruce and the boys at Bristol last month but the hotel buggered my reservation so nowhere to stay when I got there, then I rebooked for Exeter only to have it postponed until next year due to venue issues the morning after my ticket arrived! So I was really pleased to get a ticket for this gig and the Skids were a really good addition.
@VincentRE797 ай бұрын
@@mickymondo7463 I have never seen From the Jam live, was planning to see them in May 2020 then the pandemic hit. Would you agree that there are much larger turnouts for these bands nowadays? I remember going to see Buzzcocks, UK Subs, The Stranglers etc back in the 90's and the venues were half full.

Did Bruce Foxton used to frequent the Upper George Hotel in Halifax? There was a guy who drank in there who was his spitting double, someone told me that he lived in Hebden Bridge at that time.
@johnjonesToffeeman7 ай бұрын
Bruce gets a bad rub because Paul wrote the songs. He is a great bassist in his own right and if it had been a 4 piece then nobody would have thought like that

Wellers' disbanding of the Jam was a clunker move whilst wallowing in hubris. Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler are quality musicians yet thy seemed to have been lost to us. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places?
@johnbarry19657 ай бұрын
I always felt that Bruce and Rick were not Mods but were led by uber Mod Weller, I may be wrong. The Jam were a superb ensemble especially Their "Revolver" - "Sound Affects"!!
