That was a great video! I’ve been making jewelry with silver for about a year, and want to make bigger things, bowls and cups, mixed metal. I’m taking classes for it later this year. Thank you for making this video. Very helpful.

There is not nearly enough beautiful raised silver work videos on KZfaq. Please make many more videos. I have been wanting to make the jump from jewelry to raising for a couple years now, and would love to see more.

These are the essentials of all metal work. As an industrial(production) welder I feel cheated out of an education after watching this work.

I so wish there was metal shops to work at in Indiana. Just the school shop that I know of anyway but I have started to make my own shop and maybe sell my items.

Wonderful piece Bruce, thanks for sharing. The inside surface of the final work seems to have a yellow-ish finish, is this plating or some other extra process?

What's the best gauge to start with when trying to make a silver cup ? Please
@brucerussell17916 жыл бұрын
Hi Camron for cups use 1 mm sterling silver and remember to keep annealing using argotect to stop fire-stain
@mateuszminsky56195 жыл бұрын
AWG (for non-ferrous metals) Gauge = 18 Inch = 0.0403 mm = 1.024 Wire & Sheet are in gauge, not in inch or mm but there are lots of charts for equivalents. I start with 12 gauge (inch = 0.0808 mm = 2.053) for most tings. It gets hammered out to near 18-gauge by the time it's finished.
@ohev14 жыл бұрын
Mateusz Minsky why thin it out? If you raise you can actually thicken
@brucerussell17914 жыл бұрын
Hi, making hollowware items you require a minimum thickness of 1mm. larger pieces I will use up to 2.5mm
@brucerussell17914 жыл бұрын
Hi Camron when raising cups I use 1mm 925 sterling silver and for deep raising I use Britannia silver Stay well Bruce

Upon finding your website I was really excited to see you raise this gravy boat, but I was very disappointed in the fact that You rushed through it so fast , you skipped so many steps I couldn’t keep track of what you were doing and where you went from what you skipped so many steps it was very hard to follow in the raising process I wish you would have slowed down and made the video a little bit longer so you could see more of the steps in between it was pretty short and just not informative in the sense that it was distracting

Hi Richard I wish I could upload more video but I’m limited by KZfaq time All the best Bruce
@brucerussell17914 жыл бұрын
It took me 60 years to learn how to make any thing and there are secrets you learn from your father that you don’t give away also KZfaq don’t allow long videos ... stay well and good luck silversmithing
@brucerussell1791 Жыл бұрын
Wish I could make them longer but youtube crop them .. the full video for the sauce boat was 52 minutes. And most of my other videos are longer but again cropped
