Live performance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at Nijmegen, Netherlands. The song was preceded by an introduction as a tribute to Springsteen's now-deceased friend and first bandmate, George Theiss. The video is missing the first sentences of the intro where he says George asked him to be in his first band. Following the intro, the song Last Man Standing was played, but I do not have a complete recording of that song.
Springsteen's words on death and life:
"Now as you get older, death brings a certain kind of clarity-its lasting gift to us.
It’s an expanding vision of the life that we’re living and of its possibilities.
And the grief, the deep grief that we feel when our loved ones leave us, is just the price we pay for having loved well."
