I provided these lyrics to Bruce Springsteen in 1982. I wrote them in the summer of 1976. My sleep cycle was 180° out. I was 17 years old. My father said I know you think you're having fun but you're Dancing In The Dark. That's where the title came from. The line "This gun is for hire" came from an old television show called Paladin. "Sit around getting older" was a restatement of the Beach Boys line "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older." Bruce our agreement was that if you use the lyrics you would pay me for them depending on how good they are. The time has come to pay me Bruce. Please stop singing the song as though you know what it is about- it's just not that deep. Stop hamming it up. You will never be a poet laureate. My name is Eric Heine I live in Glen Ellen California. Bruce Springsteen took these lyrics from me. My standing agreement with Bruce since the time I was fifteen in 1974 was in Bruce's words "I will take the songs and I will pay you if I use them depending on how good they are." I provided Bruce Springsteen with lyrics in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1982 I was 15, 16, 17, and 23 years old respectively. Bruce promised to pay me if he used my lyrics depending on how good they were. Bruce has never kept his promise. He made millions on songs I wrote. One-time Steven Van Zandt gave me eight tickets to watch them work at the Oakland Coliseum in 1982 on September 23rd it was an Amnesty International concert. Bruce had to work on his birthday. Yes in many ways I'm sure Bruce is a great guy my personal experience with him has been that he is a rip-off. Bruce doesn't keep his word and ge has a weak handshake.

What an odd performance.......it was almost like he was drunk or high on something.😒 I love when artists take a "band" song, strip it down to basic essentials, and do it solo with just an acoustic.....but this didn't quite cut it.

Rather ironic for Springsteen to be parroting the idiotic US love affair with wars and trained killers after making a fortune copying the likes of Pete Seeger via singing a bunch of anti-war songs. Supporting the troops cannot be separated from the illegal, corrupt and horrific wars they are sent to fight. Supporting the troops only acts to encourage American exceptionalism, imperialism and its horrific war crimes. And it makes Springsteen an utter hypocrite and shameless sell out. The irony of him and his audience "dancing in the dark" is completely lost on everyone.
