Lyrics:
I wake up in the morning, just glad my boots are on
Instead of empty in the whispering grasses,
Down the Five at Forest Lawn
On the set, the makeup girl brings me two raw eggs and a shot of gin
When I give it all up for that little blue pill
That promises to bring it all back to you again
Ride me down easy, ride me down easy friend
Tonight the western stars are shining bright again
Here in the canyons above Sunset, the desert don’t give up the fight
A coyote with someone’s Chihuahua in its teeth skitters ‘cross my veranda in the
night
Some lost sheep from Oklahoma sips her Mojito down at the Whiskey Bar
Smiles and says she thinks she remembers me from that commercial with the
credit card
Hell these days there ain’t no more, now there’s just again
Tonight the western stars are shining bright again
Sundays I take my El Camino, throw my saddle in and go
East to the desert where the charros, they still ride and rope
Our American brothers cross the wire and bring the old ways with them
Tonight the western stars are shining bright again
Once I was shot by John Wayne, yea, it was towards the end
That one scene's bought me a thousand drinks, set me up and I’ll tell it for you
friend
Here’s to the cowboys, and the riders in the whirlwind
Tonight the western stars are shining bright again
And the western stars are shining bright again
Tonight the riders on Sunset are smothered in the Santa Ana winds
The western stars are shining bright again
C’mon and ride me down easy, ride me down easy friend
‘Cause tonight the western stars are shining bright again
I woke up this morning just glad my boots were on

I've never been very close to Bruce Springsteen songs, but in 2019 I went through one of the worst years of my life. And one day KZfaq recommended this song to me, and I had an epiphany, and ran after the rest of the album. And my god, that piece helped me through one of the worst years of my life. I got to know more of Bruce's work. And I want to say that Western Stars was a breath of fresh air for my soul, I thank the Boss, for this masterpiece. Thank you Bruce for everything. Now I'm going to listen to that beautiful song one more time.

I think you'll find a lot of his fans who had similar epiphanies at one time or another, brought on by all sorts of life experiences. I know I did. Once I made that discovery, and explored more of his work, I was amazed at how absolutely accurate his writing is at capturing the sorrows, frustrations, and ultimately the dogged hope that somehow gets people through life. I don't consider him so much a songwriter as an actor who uses a pen.

What can you say when you are left speechless. I had “Western Stars” for almost 2 months before listening to it. I never had the right amount of time to give it my full attention, I guess. But the other day a had long drive ahead of me and thought it would help pass the time - keep me company. I had the destination set on the GPS, headed off, and then after I reached the highway and settled into traffic, I pressed “play”. Halfway into “Hitch Hikin’”, I pulled off the road, and onto the shoulder. Sat there listening to the album, start to finish, smiles crossing my face as easily as tears welled up in my eyes. After the last notes of “Moonlight Motel” faded, I pulled back onto the road, late for something that wasn’t nearly as important or satisfying. Thank you, Bruce, for a moving and empowering collection of stories. And thank you for the company.

Back when I was in college, and this was late '80's, I had a music class. The professor was covering top American songwriters... I think he talked about Sousa, Copeland and the like. 'I wake up in the morning just glad my boots are on' sounds exactly like something my father would have said. He was a cowboy. As he got older and became ill, well... If his boots were on, it was a good day. Eventually, the cancer put him flat on his back. I spent his last weeks trying to make him comfortable and listening as he told stories of his horse trading, trick-riding days from his hospice bed in the living room. Now his boots are empty, the cowboy is gone, and I miss him. This whole song feels like an homage to him. And yes, it brings the tears, but that's okay. Because tonight, the western stars are shining bright again. Thank you for this moving masterpiece of a song and album, Bruce.

Bruce Springsteen to me is America's best poet laureate, story teller, musician and rocker. He speaks to us in the language of our hearts. This newest album is a prime example of what and who he is...The Boss! (I know he does not like being called that but he is the boss!) In the world we live in it is good to have things you count on. I count on Bruce to keep the narrative of our lives moving forward. Bruce does this in such a beautiful, emotional and intelligent way. I grew up with man. He has never let me down. Springsteen can bring tears to my eyes with his haunting telling of what happens in our inner soul. He speaks directly to that secret passion in me so often I know it is not a fluke. His music touches me personally and I struggle to explain the connection. It is not fair to say his music gets better with age because his past music holds up so well, so instead I will say the Boss abides and follows the path of lonely cowboys past their prime, teenagers growing up and anxious to get away from their hometown, wrecked and wretched wrestlers who have squandered their lives, AIDS victims that faced certain death, secret gardens of those struggling to still believe and keep faith, powerful passions that almost cannot be controlled, rebuilding a crumbled life, city or heart, the struggle to be good and do the right things, standing up against those in power, being afraid of finding love, being ready to find love and so many other themes. Every single one of them is meaningful to me. Every single one of them speaks to me. If he only created for me he would have done something special but I know many others have similar experiences with his music. There is both breadth and depth in his narratives I find so consistently in few others. Thank you Bruce Springsteen for reaching down deep and having the strength of character to try and tell the world what it is like to feel deeply and live with the repercussions of our emotions, decisions and lives! I know this may not make a lot sense but to a few romantics, cynics and humanist it will all make sense. Or something like that!

The emotional undercurrent in this song is undeniable, and it affects me deeply. Who else has been brought to tears here? What is it, though? Weariness?...resilience? My dude, good american song writer. Makes you proud you grew up here, even coming from a African American male who has seen two sides of America, but I love her, and her values of liberty, and justice, for all. It moves my spirit. Which tells me it is truth. I grew up in the racists 80's, and I experience love from a good amount of my Caucasian brothers and sisters. I've had beautiful childhood friends, that help me to see that people, all people have the capacity to love, and then I grew up and found out that, all people have the capacity to hate also. Doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, but it does matter what you look like on the inside. One Love

I've heard and read several variations of the idea that a great balladeer is one that uses a song's instrumentation, lyrics and their vocal inflections to place you in the skin of the characters in their stories; to make it seem as if you lived that experience yourself, regardless of whatever experiences (or lack thereof) you've had. This song is one of many that proves that Springsteen is a great balladeer. I'm a typical desk job worker closing on his 30's who lives on the East Coast and who's never even seen Hollywood. Yet, I listen to this and I tangibly feel the mixture of emotions at the heart of the protagonist: a grizzled veteran of the Golden Age of Hollywood still doing his job in the twilight of his life and career; the last of a dying breed bittersweetly navigating the aftermath of the loss of the friends and legends he came to know on first-name basis. Powerful.

I have been a fan of Bruce since 1978. In my mind this album is is right there with Darkness on the Edge of Town, Born to Run, Born in the USA and The Ghost of Tom Joad. Beautiful, reflective, melancholy, world-weary lyrics are classic Springsteen.

Bruce Springsteen has returned to rock 'n' roll with his new song, "There Goes My Miracle." The track, released on September 14, is the eleventh song on the artist's nineteenth studio album, "Western Stars." "There Goes My Miracle" is a country-pop orchestral ballad that tells the story of a man who loses his love. The song is characterized by a melancholic and nostalgic atmosphere, recalling the 1960s and 1970s in California, where Springsteen grew up. "I wrote this song thinking of everyone who has lost someone they loved," Springsteen said in a recent interview. "It's a song of hope, saying that even in the darkest of times, life goes on." "There Goes My Miracle" is the first single from "Western Stars" to be released since the album's release in 2019. The track is accompanied by a music video directed by Springsteen himself, marking his directorial debut. With "There Goes My Miracle," Springsteen returns to rock 'n' roll after experimenting with different musical genres in recent years. The track is a further demonstration of the artist's talent and versatility, who at 74 continues to give his fans unforgettable songs. I think Bruce is so fantastic because he is a bridge with a love of America without lying about the bad parts, he shows you don't have to lose your identity to be multicultural. He is a fascinating songwriter and even with his tremendous success never lost a connection to the working people, the everyday people.

Has Springsteen ever made a bad record? Every album blows me away. The production on this album stirs up this sensation of melancholy and beauty. It's as if The Boss has never felt more down and out yet at the same time never more free in his life. Astounding. 🤠🌟🇺🇲

If I were to have a funeral (which I won't), I would like it to be nothing more than an open bar and the playing of this entire album. (Not for nothing, but I was listening to Bruce in Gainesville on an "underground" radio station in the '70s; who knew how much he would mean to me--and the world--over the years.)

This washed-up actor, yeah, he's reaching the end of his life. But he's also part of something that will never die." Here's to the cowboys, riders in the whirlwind. And the western stars are shining bright again...
