My dad has the gen 1 ridgid tool boxes and they have been through hell and back and are in perfect condition still.

Yeah, the gen 1 boxes were a good bang for the buck too. Thanks for sharing that story.

I own a lot of the Ridgid boxes and love them! I'm an industrial electrician so they are exposed to rough weather and conditions all the time and have held up well. If I had one complaint it would be the warranty. I contacted the manufacture regarding My Gen1 rolling box when the rubber tread on my wheels was coming off. They offered me nothing. I was even willing to purchase new wheels from them and they told me they don't provide parts. So, keep this in mind.

I’m not surprised by your experience. When I called because I was missing parts from the miter saw stand the guy said I’d somehow lost the parts. Ha! The box was fully taped up and still had the strapping on it.

Just in case you did not know it, if you own more drawer units you can remove the drawers and reassemble them in to a 4 drawer unit and a 2 drawer unit by swapping the drawers.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I recently watched a video on that, which was pretty smart. The guy cut the bottom out of the top drawer and anchored the two small drawers together to make a two drawer box. He also made a box into one large drawer by cutting out the bottom of the two small drawers. I believe that’s what you’re referring to?
@lorenrickey5481
@lorenrickey5481 4 ай бұрын
@@BruceAlanR I saw that too. But what I’m talking about requires NO cutting, just two toolboxes. Remove one large drawer from a unit and replace it with two of the smaller drawers from the other unit. Put the last large drawer in to the unit with the remaining large drawer. Now you have a unit with 4 drawers and a unit with 2 large drawers.

Unless you work outside, the ridgid drawers are one of the best. Love mine.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I still struggle with the dimensions of the drawers relative to the size of the box. I may be better off with another XL toolbox so I can pack more in it. Still debating.

I'm still hoping for more accessories, like the mounting base that Milwaukee has. That alone may be enough to get me to replace my ProGear gen1 with Packout. The Gen 1's are fantastic and 1/2 the price of Packout, but Milwaukee really has some great ideas for boxes and accessories

There are trade offs with all the systems. Most of the systems build the handle and wheels into the big box which requires it be the bottom box. It is my understanding that the Ridgid can use the three drawer unit as the bottom unit on the stack and have the top opening box on the top. This to me is essential for easy access without breaking down the stack to access the bottom unit. To me, for it to be successful, it needs to stay together as a unit almost all the time. The lower volumetric efficiency of the Ridgid drawer unit is less of a concern for me. I will have to be careful not to overload it anyways. The durability is a concern for me. Hopefully it can a reasonable lifetime. Over the years, I have had my share of tool boxes with broken handles, latches and wheels. Based on this and my internet research I have pretty much decided on this system. Hopefully I am not disappointed when I actually go to look at them.

Yes, I think Ridgid got the design right by allowing the XL toolbox to be swapped out for the drawer box. Supposedly they had a 2 and three drawer option too but haven’t released it yet. A few stores rec’d a couple, but they pushed the release date. Heck, you could even stack two drawer boxes on the cart with a small toolbox on top and never have to unstack. The only issue with that would be you might need to convert one of the boxes to a single drawer (cut out the bottom of the upper drawers and secure them together) to accommodate larger tools (circular saw comes to mind).

I'm a diyer, and I love my rigid boxes, much better quality than a lot of diy boxes, and not bad on price for a homeowner. Obviously, if I was a professional, I'd do packout

I returned my Ridgid drawers for the same reason: the box is huge but the useful capacity is small.

Yeah, I’m still considering a return. Such a shame. I waited a long time for their release date, which kept getting pushed forward. And now I’m disappointed.

I got rid of both dewalt and packout for the rigid 2.0... the bottom drawer whit wheels was the deciding factor. Also the price is very good.

I do like the Ridgid boxes for the price. I even picked up the two drawer box, which I like better than the 3 drawer. I just wish they had maximized storage space in the drawer boxes.

Yes. As I mention in the video, when you buy the XL box as a standalone it comes with brackets; however, if you buy the XL box with the rolling cart it does not.

If only I was working for DeWalt I might not have to pay full retail for their stuff. 🤣 When I started out, I went all in on DeWalt tools, but have transitioned into Milwaukee’s platforms over the years… just not the PackOut. I have come to like Milwaukee’s tools better and I don’t get kickbacks from them either. Ha! Any revenue generated by my videos goes to recoup monies I’ve spent.

You need to speak slower
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR Ай бұрын
My apologies. I tend to speak quickly and more so if a video is really long. If you didn’t know, you can adjust playback speed of videos on KZfaq. If you start to play a video and tap on it you will see a gear (upper right corner of the video if on a phone or lower right corner on desktop). If you tap/click on the gear you will see Playback Speed and can select .75x or .50x. It may also be helpful to turn on closed captioning (cc) since I always upload them.
