You replaced the headlights. An you said save the old ones that is a good idea. But you never touch the bulb with your fingers the glass part. The oil on your fingers with make the bulb last maybe 2 weeks to a month. Never want to touch the new ones. Its best to put on a pair of gloves before to touch the glass part.

The white Scania really doesn't look that bad all things considered. Frame probably completely fine if you shotblast and repaint it, would just take a fair bit of time to do plus all of the disassembly and reassembly, but it would work more than fine if you're willing to go through with the resto job. As far as the tyres go they're officially allowed to run 295/60 or 315/60 or 315/70 or 315/80 on the rear axles and 315/70 or 315/80 or 385/55 or 385/65 on the front steers (if I remember correctly). If it's on 385's the front wheels will be a 22.5x11.5 and the rears are 22.5x9. Whatever tyres you can get for that wheel size will probably work. It's not uncommon to run smaller tyres on lift axles though it depends on what you're doing and it looks better if you run same size IMO.

Yeah, me too. If it were me, some brake cleaner, a wipe down with a rag, or blow off with an airline seems like the minimum that should be happening. I understand if it's precious time out when the truck should be hauling something maybe, but I'm not sure that's what's going on here. I dunno....

Next time you do one Bruce, before undoing anything, Jack the cab up enough so the front airbags are extended and before it lifts rears, then put wooden blocks behind the shocks between chassis and cab chassis, then left cab down on them, be easier mate. And while you’ve got that sway bar off, good idea to remove ac condenser and intercooler to clean out in between, as the crap builds up and reduces cooling.

@MrJonken70
@MrJonken70 Ай бұрын
Exactly true. The shorter orginal studs are the correct ones for front wheels. With theese; the AWESOME SCANIA -loge covers would have fitted -right off. Also the rim cover accually has a use. Without that it's much easier to loose the bolt covers. And not to RE-mount the cover over the left back cab air bag; was a mistake too. (Without that -the weather elements -will get mechanics and function rusted out ahead of time.
@Shoorit

@@MrJonken70they needed longer studs for the aluminium wheels as they are thicker and the original studs are too short. I’m not sure if the longer ones are the correct ones though as they do seem a little too long.

Those H4 (I believe they are H4) headlight bulbs, the glass shouldn't be touched by hand, for the grease on your hand will shorten the bulb's life. Or so they told me that. So I'm always very careful handling these halogen lights. Electrical adjustable headlights are a standard here in Europe. Just in case the nose is pointing higher than usual (because of load, trailer hitched, etc) and you might be blinding oncoming traffic.

Just a heads up on those headlights and fog lights Bruce: Undo the sidelight / indicator unit and swing it out. That reveals screws for the headlight unit. Remove those and the headlight uniit swings inwards to the middle of the truck. On the foglights undo the screws on the surrounding panel which are next to the steps, slide the panel off and then release the fog light unit which also swings inwards. Oh and never ever touch the glass on light bulbs. And those front wheel studs are the wrong length. they should only be one or two threads longer than the sheelnut (lugnut?). Maybe they were for the rear twin wheels so check your other studs? Just guessing. If all the studs are the same length I would grind cut the front ones shorter and use the correct Scania wheel nut covers. But you sure got the hang of changing cab suspension bushes now mate! Good job.

For dubble tube dampers, as most of the scania dampers are. You need to pull them verticaly with the top up. When you extend them horisontaly as you do, they suck air into the inner chamber and loose all the damping force. Btw I work at the Scania R&D with Ride Comfort and damper tuning.

I'm pretty sure that the new longer studs they put on the front axle are for the rear axles, that's why they're too long. And it's correct that 315/80-22,5's are what's supposed to be on rear axles on that truck. The 13R tires are heavy duty tires more meant to be on a dump truck that's mainly driven in a mining area, not on a highway truck. My guess to why they've put on the 13R's is to get a little bit higher top-speed through the larger diameter of the tires, which would be illegal in Europe. For those who doesn't know, semi-trucks in Europe are not allowed to go faster than maximum 90 km/h (80 km/h if it has a trailer hocked on to it). I don't know how much speed you gain by putting on those 13R's, but let's say that they make the truck go 100km/h, but the speedometer will only register that you're doing 90km/h (or 89km/h that the electronic speed limiter usually is set on from factory).

Europe uses 6x 205 on Mercedes Sprinter vans and light agricultural trailers, 8x 275 on medium (distribution) trucks and agricultural tractors, 10x 335 on heavy trucks, 200+ hp agricultural tractors and agricultural trailers with 9 ton axle load and above. Then there is 8x 203 used for sub 100hp tractors, though it isnt used in trucks or trailers as far as i know. All according to DIN standard.

@@hnorrstrom at least since WW2. The Opel Blitz, Nazi Germanies most popular WW2 5 ton truck, also had 6x 205 pitch, so dismantled truck axles were used in agriculture for decades to come, as standard agri tires had the same pitch.

Expectantly: Really curious if Bruce got the eletronicly controlled (switch in the cab) exhaustdanper for this Scania. This is the function for running the REAL-roar of straight pipes -or normal scilent on Scania V8's. Guess we'll see -when Bruce and Co -gets busy with mounting the new pipes (stacks?)...
