I've heard several renditions of this, one of my all-time favourites, and she plays it beautifully with lots of feeling, and really seems to have absorbed the emotions engendered through every pore. Superb.

I love her interpretation on Bruch's music, her insightful playing on Scottish Fantasy back in New York was amazing!

It is delightful to discover FRESH TALENT that bids fair to rival that of the "old masters." Music is more than masterful technique. Akiko well brings forth the SOUL of Bruch's music.

The assistant concert master(2nd Chair, First Violin) was the Concertmaster of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. As of now, she resigned her position back in Fall 2019, due to being diagnosed with ALS prior to one of her concert performances back in Spring 2019. Her name is Mayumi Ohira and has served 20+ years on that position. To me, she was my all time favorite concert masters from Japan. Let her passion of music & violin flow through her as she continues to live out her retired life as of now!😊

Also, the principal 2nd violin is named Junko Omori. Unless you live in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, I do not know what happened to her position, because she resigned a few years later after this performance. The Assistant Principal Violinist though is still an active memeber along with some of the first and second violinists. I'm guessing some of these memebers could be offical, but some would be substitutes and extra members for this concert. It is common to have this type of situation in some Western Symphony Orchestras with Subs and extra members to increase the size of it.
i love Akiko Suwanai because she is a good Violin player .i hope oneday that she can come to Taipei Taiwan .i anticipate it .

The best interpretation of this piece so far in youtube. I first listened to this piece live in 2009 at De Anza Community College in Cupertino, California. It was performed Tessa Lark , that's the best performance I have ever seen live. I wish they would have recorded it.

Ms. Suwanai plays Bruch's Violin Concerto No.1 with power and conviction. Beautiful intonation and depth, bravo! That Stradivarius adds to the magic!

This is all new to me ;but what a pleasant surprise! I am sure we will see much more of these people and Max Bruch does not need an introduction . Delightful!
Rich sound yes, and also astonishing gentleness ... which is especially difficult with a Stradivarius Violin, which is not giving everybody its full range of voice. I am excited!

Her performance requires at least a 720 p download. This is only 480 p. Nonetheless, hers is a very deeply passionate and lyrical expression, very spontaneous and totally alive to all the subtle shadings of the composition . One of the best I've experienced.

That is such a beautiful rich sound that she is pulling from that 1714 Dolphin Stradivarius violin

Yes, the performance of the violin depends on how the player plays it. Thank you for watching my video.

***** Indeed...Heifetz pulled a completely different sound out of this very same violin. But when you listen carefully, one could detect the same timbre here and there. Isn't it something that Akiko Suwanai plays on Heifetz's violin? I guess she must be so proud of this.
@badkid738 жыл бұрын
+Raoul Tak Heifetz usually played his Guarneri. He owned the Dolphin Strad, but that was not his perferred instrument for concerti. I only wish Suwanai's CD recording of Bruch was performed with the Dolphin, but alas, it was recorded on another Stradivarius before the Nippon Foundation gave her a lifetime loan of the 1714 Dolphin. Akiko Suwanai released a few records in the early 1990's (including the Bruch concerto). She then disappeared to complete more studies in NY working with mentors including Isaac Stern. She emerged in around 2000 a more mature and musical soloist. This was about the time she obtained the Dolphin Strad. It's a shame that the other great musical Stradivarius in existence, the Alard-Baron Knoop, is no longer played by a world class musician.

The Dolphin Stradivarius has a twin. It's called the Titian Stradivarius played by Cho-Liang Lin. But not all Strads are alike, and having heard the two instruments played on the same stage, it is clear that the tone of the Dolphin Stradivarius is special. This is high praise. The Titian is considered one of the finest golden-period Strads.
I'm absolutely no 'expert' but this is incredible ! Just need to keep listening and more listening - what a sound from an incredible violin :) First heard Bruch some 50 years ago and have never heard such an incredible performance since - brilliant , thanks :)
I'm sorry it has taken me this long to discover this version of Bruch!!! Can feel blood pressure plummeting! Haven't had the pleasure of listening to Akiko Suwanai before!

Since Heifestz, nobody challenged his perfect world. Ms. Swanai took challenge to go beyond the "ultimate" standard Heifetz set. We have to move on for the sake of music's future. A new phase of playing violin has started.

FORMIDABLE AKIKO ! MERCI !!!
I prefer her interpretation to Joshua Bell's. Her's is a smoother interpretation which fits to Bruch's composition. Also the recording is a better one.

Shlomo Mintz with Claudio Abbado conducting is by far the best interpretation of all. Even Bruch would've spell-bounded by that.
