This is the best interpretation I heard of this symphony thus far. Thank you very much. It was not before last year that I discovered the unique greatness of Bruckner. Since then, I almost listen to nothing else anymore.

Wow!! Why cant we hear this symphony ( and the 3rd ) more in the concert halls? They are both musical gems. About time we had a little less Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.. Bruckner should and must be heard more. His symphonies are masterpieces of construction with adagios that surely must have been put in his head by angels sent from Heaven!

Not only a gem but a full dose magic bullet. It hit me a year ago and by now I am completely enslaved.

ma che bella esecuzione! un suono ...cameristico? Quello di cui ha bisogno Bruckner per apprezzarne le finezze armoniche e contrappuntistiche ....e il grande cuore! Grazie

For me one of Bruckner's most beautiful movements. Such a pity that this symphony is being ignored compared to nrs. 4,5,7,8,9

This one always strikes me as where Bruckner becomes unmistakably "Bruckner". A very nice performance here and the look of the orchestra, with the black shirts and red ties on the men, is striking.

The end of this symphony is full of madness, the wonderful madness of genius: trupets once and again till the incredible. Fantastic audacy.

Anton Bruckner was born on September 4, 1824 while Johannes Brahms was born on May 7, 1833. Bruckner was almost ten years older than Brahms. Listening to the symphonies of Bruckner and Brahms comparatively, I can hardly believe this fact, because Bruckner sounds more "modern" than Brahms. Eiji

Thanks for the primer. I love both B's. The debate is silly. It's like asking who was a greater conductor: Furtwangler (German U) or Toscanini? I love both. By the way, Mahler was considered a greater conductor than as a composer when he was alive. Even the "genius" Debussy walked out on Mahler's 2nd Symphony at a concert. (I have little use for Debussy's ban manners.)

Fine live performance of a rarely heard in concert Bruckner symphony (the only time I have attended it live was with Sir Georg Solti and the Chicago S. O.). Isn't that Kees Bakels conducting? Please provide a bit more information about this concert. Thanks for posting.
