Guide to upgrading the RAM in the HP 15s-fq1515na and other models using the 15s-fq1000 chassis.
This system takes a DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM modules.
For this system I would upgrade to Crucial DDR4-2666 SO-DIMMs: amzn.to/2zCPY3d

This is a very handy video, recently bought this after my old laptop kicked the bucket, it had a better processor but less RAM, so glad that you have this guide, very simple, clear, and to the point.

Thanks for the video. I've got a HP - 15s-fq1512sa and I'm planning to upgrade the RAM - will use this video to guide me. May be a silly question, but is there a slot for any expansion of HD storage? I've got a 256 gb SSD on mine, but I wouldn't mind adding an extra SSD (or whatever is available) for additional internal storage.

Great video! just what i need it and it works perfectly for me! Now i have a silly question, my laptop is currently having 8GB from originally, so it should be fine if i buy an additional Crucial 8GB DDR4-2666 RAM, right ? in that way i would have 16GBs available, right ?

Thanks for video. I brought HP 15s-fq2015na and was wondering do you have to take out battery before installing RAM? Also is it easy to swap SSD too?

You don't have to disconnect the battery, but it is advisable as it means you won't accidentally remove or fit components with the system electrically on. SSD guide is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otB8d6WByLGUpn0.html

Have you tried a different wifi card ? i tried a Intel 9260NGW and added a extra antenna , The Laptop booted up and installed the driver but after the restart the wifi would not turn on, it was showing in device manager and said it was working properly I would like to install a Wifi 6 card or get the 9260ngw working

I'm about to purchase a 4gb ram version of this laptop from argos. Do i have to purchase 4gb for the 2nd ram installation, or can i add a 16gb to work in combination with the default 4gb? wasn't 100% sure if the 2 have to be matching sizes or not - silly question possible!

It isn't essential, but it is good practice to minimise the risk of damage to the machine.

Hi. I have this model laptop. It's telling me there's no hard drive/ability to boot. When I look into the options you get when pressing F10, the machine tells me there's an issue with the Optane memory volume. So, I think the hard drive is kaput. I can buy new and replace, but is it possible to recover files from the drive/s? Thanks!

Depends on the state of the drive and how it has failed. A data recovery company may be able to help, but it won't be cheap.

@@BrueComputing Hi. I managed to boot the computer with LinuxMint. Recovered the files I needed and reinstalled Windows 10 - a part of the issue was the laptop stating that the OS had simply vanished. Seems to be working fine for now. Very odd.

Hi sir, I have an HP 15s eq0xxx and in cpu-z it showed me DDR4-2666mhz and in brackets 1333 mhz which clock speed is true? So that I can improve?

DDR is double date rate - so 1333 is doubled to 2666.

@@BlueScreendo The laptop should run the RAM at the speed of the slowest module, so drop down to DDR4-2400 speed.

why do they put the screws under the strip ? so HP can spot its opened and get out of their warranty, just because they made it hard to upgrade your ram from the unusable 4gb

I don't think this is the case - I'm guessing its just to give the base of the machine a cleaner look. You wouldn't invalidate the warranty based on a rubber strip held on with an adhesive strip being lifted - you see these get snagged and missing all the time.

I have contacted HP and they said that you can upgrade RAM, SSD and WI-FI card but if one od these will NOT work you will repair it by yourself, and better to keep old parts

If it doesn't have an HDD as standard then you'd have to source the bracket and cable to fit the drive.

@@anything670 Standard config for that machine is 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, so unlikely you can add a 2.5" drive without sourcing additional parts.

You'd need the HDD cable, board and mounting bracket as models with an M.2 drive don't have these installed, which is quite expensive.

4GB will be limiting - going to 2 x 4GB or 2 x 8GB will improve things but with integrated graphics it'll never be great for gaming.

This is a guide to a specific model though, the 15s-fq model range which all share the same chassis design.

No - as with basically all modern laptops the CPU is soldered to the mainboard, so the only way to upgrade it is to replace the whole board.
