Video footage of Brunswick's GS-NXT. The camera movement isn't as smooth as it should be, plus I had to be careful of not tripping the safety sensors around the machine

I worked on Jet Backs and A2s back in the 80' and 90's. These look so much different.

I grew up on the Brunswick A2's in the 60's. Our machines were 1962 out-of-the-box brand new and original. Brunswick had the original "perfect design" with this one. It was built like a tank, heavy thick metal all around. One main motor to run the whole show with a minimum of belts--look at the GSX today, 5 motors and what looks like a dozen of those green pin movers when Brunswick only needed one to transport the pins to the main turret on the old days. The original A-2 was all mechanical, no damn computer chips to break or act up, thicker frame, about 1-10th the total number of moving parts they have today--and most look like cheap plastic! But, with proper adjustment and oiling and keeping the machines clean many many A2's are still here and should last nearly forever. Because they were built that way! The worst breakdown we ever had was a broken main drive gear in the main unit. Took a bit of work to replace the gear and re-sync the unit but soon after it was good-as-new! After I left the business due to retirement they finally changed out after 50 years to the new GSX units. Big-big, HUGE mistake! So sad to see as these new units will end up being monsters to maintain and drive the costs up. And in the end, they are already saying the GSX system will only last around ten years. And now it's String-Bowling?!! Glad I walked away in the end.

I was a mechanic for AMF 82-70s in the late 80s and early 90s and I know them pretty well...first look at these it just seems like it is somewhat of a loose copy of those with some Brunswick GSX afterthoughts to accomplish the same task. There are a lot of constantly moving parts, belts, and motors. Gotta think that these are prone to lots of jams and misses. The AMF machines are/were straight forward and seems like there are far fewer moving parts and mechanisms. From what I gathered, AMF held patents on a lot of their methods and technologies and it forced Brunswick to come up with a machine that would accomplish the same task only it was (had to be) almost all mechanical mechanisms & controls. Whereas the AMFs had an electronic "brain" that operated a lot of the logic, motors (table & sweeps) etc. It was just an overall "simple is better" approach. I had set hands on the A2s from a fellow mechanic at a Brunswick center and he generally agreed with this assessment. This may just be bowlin' alley folklore though...😀

We have had our gsnxt for about a year and we love them . The main thing is to keep them clean. Found out that some systems of the machine were never adjusted right from the factory. They are settling down now and are running about 95 percent.

Can it set any pin you want? For example. On sync scoring. There's mini games where you can tell a GSX setter to set up a 7-10 or any other pin and it'll do it. Can you do the same for GS NXt?
@thatPG23
@thatPG23 Жыл бұрын
I also love the drive frame changes - flipped corner channels so the pin transitions onto the 7/10 side channels faster than the earlier GS series machines. You can see that there are pin channel walls on these machines to guide the pin as it comes off the corner transfer belt

It is interesting to see that the shark fin moves every time there is a pin pass, unlike the gsx that moves every time there is 2 pins passed. However, they kept the pin count and not use a flap that was used on a Brunswick gs 92

These look way better than the GSX pinsetters. The sweep mechanism looks like a straight copy from an AMF, but I don't immediately feel like I'm gonna lose a finger just being around the machine.
@thatPG23

Slower sweep rate than the GS-X, I'm sure that can be adjusted on the machines equivalent of the NexGen. Other than that, I love the lower set drive frame as well as the few small refinements they've made too.

Woww! The first thing I noticed was the AMF-type linkage on the sweep mechanism! Since the 8200 Series sweepers were always lighter, faster and more efficient than the Brunswick A/A2/JetBack sweepers ever could be for decades until the first of the GS Series _"sweep wagon system"_ was introduced, AMF _always_ had theirs a very well-guarded secret! --- Now exactly when, where, and _how_ did Brunswick obtain _THAT_ from Quibica/AMF?

Brunswick was VERY stubborn. I kept telling them about problems with their GS-10s. they always said I was doing something wrong until i SHOWED them what was happening and still they often said i was doing something wrong

Our local alley uses the GSX and the problems have been minimal, the sweep wagons are noisy, as well as the 8 pins dropping into the setter, but other than that, no issues at my local alley, we use the plastic twister pins for 2021-2022

What happens if a pin just slides over and is not in line with a hole? Does the machine know not to sweep? And what about the dead wood? What about respotting pins?
@everythingbowling7848
@everythingbowling7848 Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a switch on the table that doubles both as an out of range and as a table jam switch. The switch should detect if a pin is out of range and will either raise the sweep and/or stop the cycle and wait for human intervention. I am not sure which option the chassis allows for if not both options that are user selectable.

The Brunswick GSX NXT is a great machine but it does one thing I consider wasteful and unnecessary. After the second ball is thrown, the table descends upon any pins left standing and does nothing with them. It rises again, and after the sweep does its job, only then is a new set of pins put down. This takes extra time with impatient bowlers waiting not to mention the extra use of electricity and wear and tear on moving parts. They should come up with a new control box to eliminate that step.

@everythingbowling7848
@everythingbowling7848 11 ай бұрын
They don't hold up that well. The brackets that hold the sweep are always getting bent. They might hold up better if they used a more rigid sweep bar. The current design has a lot of flexing to it.

The pin distribution system is so much less efficient than the AMF with their 60 year old design.
@PinoyBowlerGS92
@PinoyBowlerGS92 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, I like this better because GS Pinsetters are capable to set random pin set ups, something that AMF and A2's are not capable of because of the strict pin distributing. I don't like having a mechanic setting it up manually because they're slow, I had that experience on an 82-90XL because pins fell on 2nd Ball. I miss those times on a GS-92 pinsetter incase pins missing on 2nd Ball, I press the Set Button on the Ball Return and machine takes care of it for just seconds.

But the pin loading seems faster than the GSX. Either way, still a good looking pinsetter and I wish more of these pinsetters were sold because I hate StringPin garbage spreading and there's no excuse of why buying that when Pinboys can be better for something "cheaper".

Can't do a strike cycle like amf can. Get a strike & the amf sweeps pins away..sets new rack. NO brunswick can do that.

Its because AMF uses a camera which I hate because I get scoring errors every League Night I bowled. I don't mind the Table needs to lower for scoring detection, besides its much quicker than the GSX or older GS Pinsetters would do.

A bad and overly complicated copying of the AMF 82-70/90 series. Too bad they’ll all be replaced by string pinsetters soon as that’s the way bowling centers and the USBC are moving.
