Brush Fire POV Fire Department Response

Dispatched to a brush fire from an overturned trash fire. I responded to headquarters to bring out a backup brush truck. Station 2 already was on scene. I responded with the backup truck with no code.

I’ve been in the fire service about a year and a half and currently in the academy looking back I use to not find outside fire interesting and love them now

Straight line without a fireline indicates to me that it's the short grass long grass division point

We volunteers in my state,(NY) don't have lights and siren, prohibited in fact, but even the trucks and responding vehicles are required by law to stop at red light and stop signs but may proceed through said device WHEN SAFE to do so. Perhaps laws are different with this departments. Our responding lights are blue and courtesy only meaning if some nitwit decides not to yield, all you can do is fume. Granted many cops attention "may be elsewhere" at times.

Boy y’all been busy with all sort of calls. Here in Ohio where I’m at we keep getting Covid call and sprinkle in a mva

Yeah we do not run Covid calls unless EMS needs our assistance. We are basic first responders so we can only take vitals and do CPR when needed. We have been fortunate on MVA lately. Brush fires and mutual aid fires mostly.

@@POV-Fire-Response our department is mixed. It’s 50/50 of EMT,AEMT, and Medics that all also firefighters then we have several that are just firefighters

What dash cam do you use? I'm FD in sw mo and apparently bought junk. 2 die in 2 years. And I do hook up a 12v maintainer through garage. Annoying when the dang thing won't function. And no, to avoid confusion.. it has not filled the memory card. The camera itself failed. Probably should go with a better than a $50+ camera

Yeah I have 2 viifo a129s. I now have the duo in my car and just the front cam in my truck. I have had no issues with either. You can find them on sale on Amazon.

No I'm not a line officer in this video. I stepped down in 2021 then came back as a regular firefighter.

@@POV-Fire-Response ok cool. I the only reason I asked it because in my dept only line officers can run sirens and red lights so I was just curious

@darylprescott8130 Here in Saskatchewan, Canada, we use reds and sirens for our Volunteer Firefighters POVS. Pulling over is legally required, and they can contravene the traffic safety act the same way that the big red fire trucks do. Step 1: Get your POV recognized in the municipality bylaw as an emergency vehicle. (Although Saskatchewan allows Volunteer Firefighters to use reds and sirens in their POVS, it's up to the individual towns to decide if they need them or not.) Step 2: Get a blessing from your chief, and prove to them that you won't drive like a manic or abuse the sirens and lights. (In towns that designate POVs as emergency vehicles, the fire chief is responsible for giving the lights and sirens to his or her members. They must do this carefully.) Step 3: Complete an EVOC course (Saskatchewan Emergency Vehicle Operator course, or SEVO course for short)

@darylprescott8130 Well they might after a Volunteer Firefighter gets ticketed. We only got reds and sirens because Travis Olver, a Volunteer Firefighter with the Estevan Fire Department ran a red light in response to a truck fire. Before April 1, 2009, we didn't have anything. Travis made sure the coast was clear, before proceeding. Cops stopped him anyway and fined him $220 CAD. Travis fought the ticket in court but lost. The judge bumped the ticket down to $70 CAD. Then Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall brought the issue to Provincial Legislation, and they made red lights and sirens legal for Volunteer Firefighters POVS here in Saskatchewan since April 1, 2009. The town of Estevan, where the traffic stop took place, was big enough to have a few traffic lights.
