With about 1/2 of Piney Grove in silviculture (planted pine trees), we have an endless supply of brush to control. If you enjoy thick grass and brush mowing, here's a previous video to check out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eq6EoKZ6vrjRqas.html

That’s what old tractors are good for. They don’t have much on the bottom side for brush to tear up. Newer tractor I ram the brush with front end loader like a bull dozer. Most of it will uproot or snap apart

This was some pretty good info Brad. I have always used the brush hog in a forward direction because of the rear discharge. When I do use it in reverse, it is because of brush or thistle growing on a ditch bank where I can't get to it any other way. I always leave me loader on and bull doze the brush before I hit it with the mower. That method has served me well in the past. I have an old I.H. pull behind chopper. My Dad used to mow over brush that was higher than his head standing up on the platform of the 520 John Deere tractor. I don't want anyone around when I mow with that. It will throw some sizable chunks over 100 feet. I don't mow when the cattle are around either. Good way to kill something or somebody. Thanks for sharing this info Brad. Great job on the demonstration as well. See you for the next one.

Thanks Gary. Our goal with this video was to demonstrate that brush hogs are probably more "durable" than a lot of new tractor owners are willing to try. After 40+ years on a tractor, they still amaze me!! Take care. Brad&Deb

I have several acres of heavy briers, brush, and cedars on my land. I have a Yanmar 223 and recently bought a 48" King Kutter. Thank goodness I didn't hire a forestry mulcher cause I am eating right through it. I am amazed at how quickly I can clear an area and reclaim my land. I do find myself leaning over some of the taller, thicker stuff with my front bucket before backing into it. I feel it puts less pressure on the 3 point area.

I've got the exact same king kutter bushog, way more holes in it than yours. I bought a gently used name brand "bush hog" to use and I've kept my older king kutter just to use it in the woods to clear the under brush. I'm going to beef that one up soon but its nice to see someone else who is using one that I have in the same manner I intend to.

Another and probably safer option is push them over with bucket first then back up and mulch it up. It will be a lot less stressful on the equipment. Although I do it both ways , and have a bent up bush hog show for it. Lol

For those tight areas, having the loader off is a game changer. But yes, we've knocked over some big stuff with the loader to get it down where the King Kutter can chew it up. Thanks for watching.

@@PineyGroveHomestead I really haven't done that with a loader off but we'll give it a try. I have 6 acres in the back of my property that I want to clean up and it's hard to navigate in those tight spaces with the loader

@@PineyGroveHomestead that for your reply, love the idea of beefing up the deck,, dó you have option on model brush hog to get for Kubota bx25d that would handle 1 to 2 Inch red cedar trees and brush,, thanks

@@jimg8218 4' wide is probably the best width for a BX. As far as types of cutter, there are rotary like mine and flail. I don't have a flail mower, but they can handle brush too. Cedar is a pretty tough wood to cut....I can run over a 2" pine and shred it, but a cedar trunk usually stays whole. Brands : King Kutter and Land Pride...Frontier (by John Deere) is good too. Here's me working some cedar with a rotary cutter. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pap4a5p9252ZdJc.html
