I love this tutorial on brush strokes. I heard a good expression Mikko “it tickles the eye”. I like your term too, “high calorie” like it’s adding flavour or making it more lush to look at.

I wouldn’t be able to tell if my eyeballs are ticklish and I hope I’ll never have to find out :D I’m pretty sure nobody is going to google information on this since all brush tutorials are really all on blending. Still somehow I’m very glad I got this information out there and just maybe I can help someone see value in paint strokes as a composition tool :)

those "how to blend" questions are probably from portrait painters like me. when you are painting someone very beautiful sometimes you want a smooth and glowing skin. you want a bouguereau type of presentation. now, you CAN paint young beautiful people with a lot of harsh or visible strokes but it can detract from their beauty or age them. unless you are VERY capable with brushes its not easy to accomplish a beautiful portrait with visible brush strokes. most of us arent masters of brushwork yet, so the best solution for us is to blend well and just retain a few edges where needed

I personally like seeing brush strokes unlike paintings that looks too clean. I even purposefully place evident strokes if I made my painting too clean. I mean there's nothing wrong with that too if that's what they like.

Happy to find your USEFUL channel! I was struggling with switching from oils to digital and you nailed it! Now it makes a lot of sense why I can't stand flat-style paintings on procreate. Now will try to expose my brush strokes! Thanks again! Great info and uplifting for those artists who have a traditional art skills and not much of the digital yet 😂 Like from me and definitely Subscribed to your channel!

Don't tell anyone but this is secretly one of my favourite videos. My only regret is not pointing out that 80% of the painting was done upside down (you can see it in the train clip tho)

Awesome video Mikko and you killed it again with this amazing tutorial! Today i danced in a elevator because in 2 more days we get to try Adobe Fresco and i am pretty hyped ( even tho i hate Adobe) :) So i hope you will give that app a try also and im curious to see how it will work in your creative hands!
@angrymikko5 жыл бұрын
What is adobe fresco? I thought they’re bringing full ps to ios this year? Haven’t heard anything about it since last years ipadpro launch event. If it doesn’t hsve a subscription fee I’m definitely interested but if it does it’s just not an option for me.
@TheChameleon20084 жыл бұрын
@@angrymikko Oh wow! You never heard of it? Well, then you might be in for a surprise!!! It comes out tomorrow for free and from my understanding so far.... it seems that it has a 1 time in app purchase of 10 bucks to unlock the premium features so no sub needed! Of course a sub will get you extra perks like directly sharing the files to photoshop etc but i dont really need this anyways. Adobe wanted to compete with procreate etc so now they stopped with the development of the older apps like adobe sketch/draw etc and made Adobe Fresco to kinda replace those older apps. Fresco works with both vector and pixel brushes and they have said you can use unlimited layer count and get real life color blending features that uses the Adobe AI. I am not a big fan of Adobe at all but this little app got me pretty hyped and from what i have seen people have created pretty awesome drawings so im curious if you are gonna like it :)

Your technique remind me of Van Gogh, complete in itself but still evocative. Just a question: do you use the color picker or a wheel to change the colors? I personally use the blender to get a few more color combinations, but i get when you say it doesn't look sweet like "real" brushstrokes

@Sund3v33 жыл бұрын
How about if you are going highly realistic? Do you have any advice or resources on that?
@angrymikko3 жыл бұрын
the style of this painting is impressionism but the advice here applies to all styles that I do.
@Sund3v33 жыл бұрын
@@angrymikko It is indeed very impressionistic and something I love to look at, but I struggle with integrating it into my own style, since it has to be very subtle to coexist with the realistic look. I've looked at other people's tutorials who have a more realistic styles but no one goes into detail about how to actually go about it in practice as opposed to the breakdown that you did there.
