NOTE: This was on my old Hawk GT many years ago. This was my third bike which was also my first reliable bike. I have since owned a VFR800 Interceptor with several track runs and currently own a Yamaha FZ1.
ALL the gear ALL the time!
My speedo is off pretty bad. I went into the turn too hot/misjudged the degree. Bad mistake that almost cost me a LOT. The rest of the video is some more twisties, nothing crazy.

LOL that was some serious lean angle! :D Well done for dropping the bike down to make the corner rather than panic braking and going straight on!

You brought a tear to my eye. My first and only bike (so far) was that hawk. I loved it. It wasn't the high speed shimmy that happened when I was zipping up a jacket and had me grabbing and missing the handlebar that got me off bikes but the time a NYC taxi pushed me onto the sidewalk like he never fucking saw me. And I thought about all the time I gave cabbies shit, rode drunk over the bridges at 90mph and it was one blind cabbie that gave me the fear. But I will ride again.

It wasn't really a steep hill, it just goes up and drops real quick. Got me by surprise the first time by. I kind of expected it on my return trip which I posted a video of as well.

you messed that entry up and ran out of apex, but you stayed with it and didn't freeze up. A brush with death, well maybe, more then likely a brush with bruises and broken parts. The entry is the important part, once you've entered the turn correctly the rest is easy. A distraction of just a split second and put you off line, no one is immune to a pucker now and then.

It is what it is. I was NOT going as fast as it seems. I was within that "10 MPH grace zone" of the speed limit. I agree, it only takes 1 driver to kill you, but that's the life of anyone on the road. I intend to enjoy life while I have the opportunity and not be scared that something will happen. Fighting fires for 10 years was more dangerous than anything I've ever done and prob will ever do on my bike.

@BadAssXJ Very nice :) my dad had a vfr 750, the 98 model and loved it, had to sell it but now he wants it back and wishes he never let it go! it's getting increasingly hard to find one in as good condition as the one he had. He's considering the 800 too, theyre a lovely bike, but i think he just prefers the 750 design ever so slightly hehe. The search for my first bike continues!

@civicaerodeck14 You're correct. I nearly crashed because of a misjudged turn. So why would I slow down further into the ride? If you notice there were no more sharp turns...

@DMoots Thanks! I'm a photographer so camera placement for me needs to be good, even for video's! I have a VFR800 Interceptor now. I sold this bike back in March.

That was a damn good save and you had balls to commite to it anyone else prolly would have braked the fuck out of the rear while down shifting while turning ending in the bike slipn from under thuen slaming into the guard rail! But although I still couldn't help but notice after that scary incident you still didn't slow it down,lol SMH :D

@joec1153 Yep. This was back in the day when I recorded this vid. I ride a VFR800 Interceptor now. Never been to a track or taken a MSF course at the point this video was recorded either. I've now been to the track many times and aced the Advance Rider Course for the PA MSF. Good times.

Yep, one of the harder turns in the area. I agree, my skiing videos for example do not look steep at all, but they definitely are when you're there! With the need to get "everything" on camera, the wide angle of course makes things seem not as spectacular as they really are.

Just the typical "Slow - Left Turn" signs that are all over this area. The problem with those is that they're typically on curves that are not sharp at all. I usually judge the corner ahead of time by the "Suggested Corner Speed" signs which are those yellow ones. 20 MPH or less suggested usually means are very sharp curve. This one had no suggested speed :(
@campingwithhuskies
@campingwithhuskies 15 жыл бұрын
I do go to the track. Look at my other video's. I was not speeding, I just picked a bad line. I had never been on this road before and had no idea the turn was a decreasing radius 'til it was too late as you see.

Wow dude, looks like you missed that guardrail by inches. Regarding unfamiliar roads, I've found that riding with a GPS really helps. It allows you to see turns way before you're on them.

I was enjoying myself! That's for sure. I didn't know that turn was so sharp, but I did know that no other aggressively sharp corners were in the near future. I was metaphorically crapping my pants as I continued on!

@ukfan4sure1 Haha thanks. If I were on my current Interceptor I don't think I would have made the corner. That Hawk cornered better than anything but at 6'4", it didn't fit me super well. I did love that bike.

Great camera angle! You ran wide because you turned into the corner too early mate. Your positioning is wrong in the corner but it all basically results from turning in too early. In the UK there is a book called Road Craft which is the police riders bible. Get a copy from amazon or something mate, it might save your life & improve your cornering. Seriously. Best of luck, keep it shiny-side-up!

You seriously dodged a bullet on this one. Your first clue should have been the great big warning painted on the road. Second, you apexed too early for this particular double apex, decreasing radius turn, and had already set a steep lean angle. Poor riding technique.
