If you will dampen you cat's coat prior to brushing, it will keep their fur from flying all over the place. Just take a fairly wet paper towel and keep wiping over you cat as you brush. No kidding--you will absolutely be amazed at how much easier it becomes. :)

I think most people would be surprised how much a short haired cat can shed. I also prefer slicker brush and comb as well. One of my cats was a feral cat and scuffing really calmed her down, she was medium hair cat.

What if you do not have a partner; AND- no Help??? I'm alone - with 2 short-haired, black, cats- with lots of undercoat to remove. They don't like to be brushed with the 'furminator'. Maybe it's too much at once- it just keeps coming off in wads and wads and wads! They don't like their nails clipped - either. And scratch my furniture and go on my kitchen counters! They get litter up there. GROSSS!!! I do the litter every day and vacuum it up; at least 1 time a day, sometimes twice a day! They knock over flowers in vases and tip things over and break them sometimes; and go on my kitchen counters and table, and they get litter on it- GROSSS! I cook up there!!! Can I 'train' them to stop this? How can I get them to let me brush them- more? It's too much with 2 cats and full- time school -and no HELP -whatsoever -for Anything! I need some tips- for not having any help- how to brush these cats and stop them shedding -all over -and start being better behaved -or I may not want to keep them. I was supposed to be 'watching' them for a few weeks- it's been 4 months now, and my daughter is Not taking them back - and not 'helping' out with them either- as in -$$$ money. I am very low-income, but I agreed to help her for a short time -with the understanding- she would help pay for their care, food, and litter. At least- just appreciate it- but that's not happening -either. I feel used and 'tricked'. I am attached to the cats, at this point, and would be very hurt and upset-to give them up or just 1 of them, even - but they aren't 'bonded' with me, and don't know anything, haven't been trained, or taught any 'manners' -as in -breaking things, eating, and ripping up all my plants, and not allowing me to do their fur, or their nails, without a huge- hours long- production of pure exhaustion and misery for me and them- HELP!!!

Very shocked, and disappointed, to see a cat being held at the neck, i.e. scruffed. This is an unacceptable and outdated restraint technique which is no longer used within any respectable veterinary practice in the United Kingdom. I hope viewers are not copying this at home.
