Jessie)? and the Knights of the Golden Circle evidently you're pretty intelligent man you know what I'm saying u know where this is going these Outlaws or circumstantial situations with these people don't give up their life so easily when they spend all their time and way of life trying to stay alive one would Enlighten their senses and keep that in the back of their head for sure... I'm just a very inquisitive person just amateur but you have to put common nature & human reactions into the stuff and sometimes just things that make sense.. and you have did a great job on Billy.. I can only do research on what I'm told do research on top of research to make sure the information you find is even true.. it takes awhile to get one little answer doesn't it and then your reputations, is on the line if you happen to make a human error..

@@royjacobson5561 Did you actually watch this video? if you did maybe get your ears checked or pause the video at certain points and read the paperwork all of which kinda proves Brushy could not have been born in 1879. As for the hand writing what are you basing that on? all the correspondence purporting to be from Billy's hand were all in fact written by many different people so we have no definitive example to compare.

It’s a great possibility that Roberts really was the kid. I’ve been on the fence for some time but I’m believing more strongly that he was. Sadly, without the ability to go back in time, we may never know the truth 100%. If he was, then the best service that can be done for his life and memory is to prove it beyond as much of a doubt as possible. You and a handful of others are doing him this honor by your thorough research and debunking the other side of it. Things like this are what make my hopes become more of a reality. Very well done

And. In reality, there are very few things that are %100. But we accept much of it as fact because there is so much evidence, that just makes it wise to do so. To the contrary, one would have to go waaaay around the proverbial barn to try to make any other assertion workable. I believe this is the case regarding brushy bill. Thanks for the video. I was one of the skeptics of Brushy Bill until I did my research. The interview of Ola Everhard was the most compelling. Recently visited Ft. Sumner on a motorcycle trip. Regret that I did not make it to Lincoln. Visited the fake grave at Ft. Sumner and hung a bandana on Charles Goodnights gravesite. Planning a ride to Weatherford, Granbury, Hamilton and Hico to visit the graves of Oliver Loving, Bose Ikard, Jesse James, and Billy the Kid. Put a pebble on John Chisum's headstone years ago.

Two copies of the interviews were known to exist. The first set of copies were in the possession of Roberts' step-grandson, Bill Allison. These tapes were loaned to researcher Frederic Bean sometime in the late 80s. W.C. Jameson wrote a book about this set of tapes in the book, Billy the Kid: The Lost Interviews. When Bean had the tapes, he noted the poor condition they were in, primarily due to the manner in which they were stored. Nonetheless, he transcribed them and these transcripts served as the premise for the book that he and Jameson collaborated on, The Return of the Outlaw Billy the Kid. Following Allison's death, the tapes along with Roberts' trunk were taken by a family member. And from there no one knows what became of either the tapes or Roberts' trunk. As far as the 2nd set of tapes goes: I found a letter Morrison wrote just a few months before his death revealing the location of the tapes. Right before the pandemic hit in early 2020 I contacted the institution and was told they had several items donated by Morrison, and they believed they might have them and just had to figure out exactly where they were being stored. The pandemic forced us to temporarily pause in our search efforts, but I'm optimistic that sometime this fall I'll be able to locate them...if they still exist. If I do locate them, I will put them up here on KZfaq. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for all the research you are doing. One question I've had and haven't been able to find anything on the subject, is what happened to Billy's six shooter after Garrett supposedly killed him? I imagine it would have been very valuable back then and more so now. Garrett kept Olinger's shotgun so he apparently knew the value of historical guns.
@brushybret
@brushybret 2 жыл бұрын
I have a photograph of the gun that the man shot by Garrett purportedly had that night. It was a .41 caliber revolver, which is interesting as Billy the Kid was known to always carry .44's. I'll include it in the video about the shooting at Ft. Sumner. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for your comment. I'm not sure how many videos I'm going to make, as I have so much still to cover. I've been researching Roberts' claim for more than 30 years, so I have a lot of material. The reason I chose to break it down is that it allows me to focus on each individual claim and show the supporting documents and sources. In my book, The Real Billy the Kid AKA Brushy Bill Roberts which came out in 2003 only allows me so much space and while I cited my sources I couldn't include a picture of every supporting document.

I'm not compleatly sure about Brushy Bill , but I can Tell you what I have been told by family . My great uncle was Jim Gililland , He and Oliver Lee were chased by Pat Garrett accused of killing Fontain and his son Henry . The family had a ranch in the Tularosa Basin and my Uncle told me in about 1935 or so , uncle Jim brought Billy to the ranch and he stayed a couple of days . My uncle stated they took him to Nogales and dropped him off . My uncle said he was a old man , a few months later my uncles dad took him back to Nogales to pick up se goats they had bought and afterward they stopped at the ice cream parlor as they were entering the parlor my uncle said Billy visited with them on the sidewalk that day . My uncle stated he never saw him again ..

The fact that people are still talking about Billy the Kid 150 years later he must have been a gunslinger Outlaw Legend and a good-hearted person
@thecowboy9698
@thecowboy9698 11 ай бұрын
I would definitely say Billy the Kid is a legend. But whether he was a good-hearted person, well based on his actions I would say that that is highly debatable. Let's not forget he was in fact a thief and a killer, and those are not hallmarks of a good person, and certainly not indicative of someone with a good heart. For example, during his lifetime Jesse James had a persona as being a Robin Hood type, but the truth was neither he nor his gang gave one cent to the needy. And let's not forget he and his brother Frank rode with the ruthless Bloody Bill Anderson, and then later the psychotic Archie Clements, in as members of William Quantrill's raiders. And let's not forget Butch Cassidy, who had the persona of a gentleman bandit, and to be fair he was opposed to violence, having never killed a man until the final shootout that claimed his life along with the Sundance Kid, but he still stole probably over a million dollars in today's money over the course of his life. And don't forget that it wasn't just the wealthy that kept their money in the banks, but it was also the average guy as well - the guy who was lucky to break even at the end of the day - so while Butch may have had the persona as a gentleman, he was still a notorious thief, and who showed that during the final shootout that he would indeed kill if he felt he had to do so. I'm not saying these men were out-and-out evil, but when you look at their actions, and that's what reveals the truth about people, what they do; I think it's clear that these men were not good.

I watched some of these videos and they are very interesting. It's hard to imagine Billy the Kid who claimed to have killed 21 men, most likely less, turned his killing ways around and became a law abiding citizen and lived on for many years staying out of trouble. It seems there were many men living similar type hard living lifestyles but were not killers in those years. If a mistake in identity was to your advantage you might be tempted not to correct the error. I can imagine this was not a one off phenomenon for that epoch, it happens even today.

Can I ask you a question? You stated you tried to get the body of what is historically believed to be Billy exhumed along with that of his mother's body in a different location, but it is my understanding that no one knows the exact location of either body. I have read the reason DNA tests couldn't be done is because while the headstone in Ft. Sumner is there due to previous rain storms and floods the actual location where the body was buried is not now known since the rain changed the land scape and removed/washed away markers. That the spot where the headstone is now is not where the body is actually buried. That its not under the headstone but is somewhere elese in the cematary lost to time. Same with his mother. As is the case with Doc Holiday also. So I do believe Brushy was Billy, my question is how would you know the body you wanted to have exhumed was indeed the body shot and killed by Pat Garett that night if the location of where the body was buried is unknown? How would you be able to tell you had the right body from that night and not some random body that happens to be under the headstone? I would like some clarification on what I have read over the years is true. Iove your channel so far and how you back everything up with facts. I believe Brushy was Billy but wonder how a DNA test would help if you can't be sure you have the correct body that actually was shot that night? Thank you for your time.

I personally don't believe anybody is buried under that grave at Ft. Sumner, and I plan on covering this in greater detail in a future video. Federal Criminal Investigator Steve Sederwall and Lincoln County Sheriff Tom Sullivan tried to get permission to exhume Catherine Antrim, the purported body in Ft. Sumner, William Roberts, and John Miller. This is all detailed in the book, The Dirty On Billy the Kid by Steve Sederwall. Several New Mexico historians, and local leaders claim that the bodies are there and part of the investigation was proving that the bodies were where they're claimed to be. The powers that be fought Sederwall and Sullivan every step of the way, by filing frivolous lawsuits and motions and engaging in a barrage of personal attacks and character assassinations. Though I'm skeptical about the Ft. Sumner burial site, I'm slightly more optimistic in the possibility of locating Catherine Antrim. I supported the exhumation efforts because even if there is only a slight chance that any bones lay under that headstone, then it needs to be pursued if for no other reason than to confirm or eliminate that claim. In my opinion, this was basically a put up or shut up challenge to New Mexico...and they didn't want to put up and risk losing any tourist dollars if that grave was found to be empty. Despite the fact they were unsuccessful in exhuming the bodies or obtaining any DNA in New Mexico, they were able to get quite a bit of forensic evidence that I will be covering in a later video. Thanks for watching.

I've done my own research for a few years now (no where near as extensive as you have). I thought to begin witthat it was too good to be true and Brushey Bills story's seemed way too good to be true. But the more I research this the more I'm beginning to think it might just be him. The scars match, eyes match, ears, and the young pics of BB match the BTK tin type extremely close. Why was BB and Doc Scurlock so close to each other? Doc was in Eastland! Very close to Hico. I'm no expert but in court you have to prove reasonable doubt. The 2 things that are any doubt is the OPR thing and you disproved this here. And the J F Dalton thing. And who knows on that. There are 1000 things that say it's him and maybe 2 that say he's not. That's not up to the reasonable doubt Bar. I think in court that would prove its him. We need a time machine to know for sure.

The University of Texas - Austin Facial Recognition Study, as well as the Study in Ears, which determined the ears were the same. Keep in mind, the original ears in the tintype were almost completely gone and were retouched by Noah H. Rose. For, Oliver P. Roberts, to be mistaken for BTK/Brushy, all of the valid research presented here aside, is not that farfetched, because there is a resemblance; which isn't unusual with cousins. Even between aunts/uncles and nieces/nephews, or a grandchild being the "spitting image" of a grandparent. Thus is the case with my daughter, and her paternal grandmother. Which we were unaware of, until she was a mother herself, and while visiting my brother-in-law, he showed us photos of my mother-in-law, at the same age. Twins, I tell you! One of my nephews, much to the chagrin of my sister, looks more like me, than any other relative I knew of, including my own child. That is, until my grand daughter was about five, and who looks more like me, than her mother does. Even mannerisms, can be passed down between relatives that never met. When my grandson was a toddler, he displayed a distinctive style of walking and running, that mimicked my husband's father, but they had not at that point ever met one another. These photos of Oliver, are quite interesting. You can see the family resemblance, very clearly, and in every aspect. They say we all have doppelgangers, and we've all seen look-alikes who impersonate famous people, but there's no debating family resemblance. Especially, when it comes to a dropped browline, or the structure of an ear at the same age. Interesting subjects.

Richard B Williams claimed he was Billy the Kid on his death bed, he moved to Edgewood New Mexico after Pat Garrett accidentally shot a young sheep herder (shepherd) and allowed him to escape to Mexico. He died in 1934, but confessed to being Billy the Kid on his death bed. He was buried under the name of Willam H Bonney, however the headstone was change after discussions of vandalism with the cemetery board and town leaders to the name he lived under in Edgewood. He is buried in what in now called Mountain Valley Cemetery, originally called Burton Cemetery.

This has already been debunked in the University of Texas - Austin Facial Recognition Study. As well as the Study in Ears, which determined the ears were the same. Remember, the original ears in the tintype were almost completely gone and were "retouched", by Noah H. Rose. Only by using special facial recognition equipment and software can the test read underneath Rose's work and measure the shadow or impression of the tintype. This is all detailed in John Meigs report on the condition of the Dedrick-Upham Tintype in the 1980s to the Lincoln County Heritage Trust. All of these online comparisons are done by amateurs using simple programs like photoshop or gimp and are not a reliable tool for making facial recognition comparisons, particularly on grainy, heavily damaged, and distorted, 140-year-old tintypes that have been "retouched". Acclaimed western photo historian, Robert G. McCubbin, has made statements on Noah Rose's "retouching" of the tintype and how it made it completely unrecognizable from its original condition. Clyde Snow and Thomas Kyle conducted a photo analysis in the 1980s, which the Lincoln County Heritage Trust commissioned for the stated purpose of discrediting Roberts. Kyle and Snow disqualified the ears from the examination because they couldn't make accurate measurements of the ears because of the "retouching" and altering of the image. Thank you for watching.

Here is another ''clue'' that Brushy Bill and Oliver P. were 2 different people. If you look at the Picture of Roberts in Cuba in about 1898 or so, he looks like someone who is on the cusp of being 40 years of age, not 20. If you look at the short 'Hico home movie' that someone took during the depression [[ in the 1930's ]] that man almost certainly is Brushy Bill and looks to be between 68 and 73 years old. I know, because I am in the edge of 70 right now. Oliver P. would look 48 to 53 if it were him in that home movie.

It does not seem plausible that Billy the Kid, subsequent to his alleged faked death in 1881, would have gone to work for the Anti-Horsethief Association and the Pinkerton Agency. By all accounts, Billy was quite gregarious and knew many people in the ranching and outlaw communities. The odds of him running into someone he knew working for either the association or the Pinkertons would probably be too high for any rational individual who was on the lam and intending to stay unknown in another identity. Further, it is not plausible that any individual wishing to remain incognito would use the same first name as in his past identity. It would be too easy for him to slip out of character or for other people to put a name and face together. The same logic would apply to adopting a nickname “the kid.“ There is no way that a previously well-known and wanted outlaw whose nickname was “the kid“ would ever seek or allow others to use that nickname on him again.

Lets be perfectly honest here everything people have said and used to try and dismiss Brushy as BTK have all been debunked many thanks to Brett, by trying to disprove his story all they have in fact done is add more credence to his story, one must always looked at the proven facts ie: Brushy's wounds which match up exactly to what BTK had, then there's the facial recognition 93% which I may add is more than enough to convict a person in a court of law, then there are his teeth which Brushy still had all physical evidence which cannot be faked, then on top of that you had what Brushy himself and other people said, two points here one how did he know so much info which only BTK would have known and two why would so many people who actually knew the kid lie and say that some random man was their friend Billy put simply they wouldn't. For all the doubters I'll ask you one thing find me one shred of credible evidence that puts any reasonable doubt in Brushy's story because as of yet I have seen nothing.

@@amut6647 Exactly! Proof that Brushy, did speak Spanish, aside.... What you say is correct; particularly if said language, is a secondary language. One examplen is my American-born mother, who could speak Czech, as fluently as any native born Czech, because she was raised by a Czech-born grandmother, who emigrated from Czechoslovakia at the age of fourteen, and lived her entire adult life in a strictly Czech neighborhood, surrounded by Czech immigrants... and never spoke a word of English. I'm not saying she didn't understand any English when it was spoken, I suspect she did, although she was an extremely secretive, tight-lipped woman. Now, in her eighties, and much to my dismay, my mother remembers few Czech words, let alone is able to speak it fluently; and, she is still of sound mind. It's because her Czech-speaking relatives, and friends, are long gone, and she hasn't had a strictly Czech conversation with anyone, for over twenty years. I wish this weren't true, as Czechoslovakian, is one of the most difficult languages on the planet to learn, and growing up, we were only allowed to know a few, everyday words in Czech, but for the most part, the Czech adults around us, thought it delightful that they could converse in front of us and we couldn't understand what they were saying. Therefore, they discouraged any knowledge of, or conversations in the Czech language. My Czech vocabulary, now amounts to under a dozen words. I think my mother, now regrets that she didn't teach us to speak the language that ties her to her long gone, beloved grandmother. As descendants, we are all poorer, in that respect, for their choices.

I don't agree with her at all, but a serious researcher examines all the evidence before arriving at a conclusion. Not only that, but I try and read every book and article that comes out about Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War that I come across. She and other supporters of the historical status quo list 4 primary reasons that Brushy Bill Roberts wasn’t Billy the Kid: 1. That Roberts was illiterate and billy the Kid could not only read but possessed a beautiful handwriting. 2. That Billy the Kid was fluent in Spanish, and Brushy Bill couldn’t speak Spanish. 3. Prior to claiming to be Billy the Kid, Roberts claimed to have been a member of the James Gang. 4. That William Henry Roberts was really Oliver P. Roberts, born in 1879 and therefor wasn’t old enough to be Billy the Kid. I've made detailed videos on each claim and show the documents and evidence that show that all of these claims are completely unfounded and not based on evidence. Furthermore, if Gale Cooper was so interested in the truth, then why when they tried to exhume Catherine Antrim at Silver City and the body at Ft. Sumner for DNA testing did she fight Steve Sederwall and Tom Sullivan every step of the way? Unfortunately, for some people, being right is more important than getting it right. And that's just sad and unfortunate. Here is a question that I ask every person that parrots a claim made by those that support maintaining the historical status quo that I’ve yet to receive an answer...ever. Perhaps you’ll be the first? How many times do these neo-historians have to be proven wrong before you stop taking them at their word and start demanding proof and verifiable sources, and how many times does Roberts have to be proven right before you afford him at the barest minimum equal consideration? Thanks for watching.

As a West Texas boy who's been told tales of Brushy Bill since I was a button, I approve this message. Also, I'm thrilled that I found this channel. Your research into the subject is quite impressive.

It's puzzling to me, since Billy the Kid, born Henry McCarty, was killed in 1881, when Brushy Bill Roberts was two years old. How could they have been the same person then?
@brushybret
@brushybret 2 жыл бұрын
But he wasn't killed in 1881 and couldn't have been born in 1879 as proven in this video.

I'm far from being a forensic expert or facial recognition expert but I can tell you that Brushy Bill Roberts does not match the photograph of William H. Bonney aka Billy the Kid. The photograph that is reversed showing Billy the Kid as lefthanded. If that picture is the real Billy the Kid then Brushy Bill Roberts is not William H Bonney regardless if there were people still around that knew William H Bonney. The faces do not match. The photograph of William H Bonney has Billy with n offset eyes. The photo shows William H Bonney having bad teeth. Almost buck like. Teeth protruding. Brushy Bill Roberts eye sockets were more even horizontally. His face doesn't show any teeth issues.

According to Roberts' Dentist, Dr. Cruz from Gladewater, Texas, Roberts not only did have "buck teeth" but this same Doctor also removed them. As far as not matching the photograph goes: The University of Texas - Austin did a facial recognition study comparing Roberts with the famous Dedrick-Upham Tintype and determined they were a statistical match! Keep in mind this study used The Kaya - Kobayashi system which is a very expensive and complex system that is only available to certain law enforcement agencies and University Research facilities. It's not something the average person has access to. The system measures Intrapupilary Distance, Internal Bi-ocular breadth, External Bio-ocular breadth, Nose Breadth, Mouth Breadth, Jaw Width, Mid-Lip to chin distance, Mid-Lip to Nose distance, Nose Length, and Ears. The study produced a perfect MSE (Mean Squared Error) of 30 for the Dedrick Upham Tintype (for example, the tintype compared to itself would yield an MSE of 30) The photograph of Roberts produced an MSE of 29.3! This is the same method used by law enforcement agencies throughout the world and is one of the most reliable facial recognition programs in existence. Most of the KZfaq videos doing facial recognition are just random internet ding dongs playing around with photoshop or gimp. It's also worth noting that The Kid's former friends and acquaintances said the Dedrick-Upham Tintype wasn't a fair representation of him...some, like the Jones brothers, said it wasn't him at all! Just something to consider. Sources: (A Basic Study On Human Face Recognition by Y. Kaya and K. Kobayashi and The Trial of Billy the Kid by Judge Bob E. Hefner).

Your thesis that Roberts was the Kid is flawed. The basic premise is wrong because of historical records and the word of mouth carried down in the area where Bonney lived, and died.

The topic of this video isn't whether Roberts was the Kid or not but rather was he Oliver P. Roberts, which I believe I have sufficiently proven he wasn't based on census, employment, and family genealogical records. If you watch my other videos on Roberts, you will find that the evidence in support of Roberts' claim that he was Billy the Kid far outweighs the evidence against it. Thanks for watching.

This has already been debunked in the University of Texas - Austin Facial Recognition Study. as well as the Study in Ears, which determined the ears were the same. Remember, the original ears in the tintype were almost completely gone and were retouched by Noah H.
