BRUSSELS FOOD TOUR | Horse Steak?! Waffles, Fries + more!

Today we explore the beautiful city of Brussels: the land of waffles, fries, and the Manneken Pis! The European capital is not only an incredibly historic city full of iconic tourist sights but also an amazing food destination!
In this 24-hour Belgian food tour in Brussels, we start off with one of the most legendary sandwich shops Tonton Garby; a cheese monger/sandwich shop with one of the friendliest faces in hospitality!
We then do the typical touristy sightseeing at the Grand-Place, Manneken Pis, and Brussels Cathedral followed by lunch at 'T Kelderke right by the Grand-Place where we indulge in Belgian classics and even HORSE STEAK??!?!
Dinner brings us to the Quartier Royal for a little golden hour stroll followed by a barrage of Belgian Fries courtesy of Friture de la Chapelle and then Maison Antoine at night (Thanks Angela Merkel for the recco! 😅)

Oh to find agria potatoe chips fried in beef tallow always gives me life but the waffles omylife 🔥 they look delightfully delish...But wait the buildings are beyond grand but otherworldly unheard of if you are from a small suburb in Auckland lol loves seeing the world from 2 wonderful kiwi foodies who's passion for food shows the world's cuisine and brings it to us via Utube...blessed Aroha and safe travels 💗

Mushroom sauce (usually served with steak) is known in Belgium as "sauce Archiduc", both in Flemish and French.

Kudos for going above and beyond the mainstream waffles/mussels/fries/chocolate tour. Also congrats for doing an excellent research on the city, Including Louis XIV's bombarding of the Grand Place and cultural titbits like the "Bruxellisation", or knowing that Horse steaks are a specialty of another town (Vilvoorde) near Brussels. Well played, New Zealand! On a side note, I can't believe 't Kelderke charged you 24€ for a horse Steak or 18€ for a carrot stoemp w/ sausage that's a world class rip off😆

Thank you!! Yeah 't Kelderke was a bit steep haha but we had to try Horse Steak at least once 😅 Do you know of any restaurants nearby that do Horse Steak?

@@locavore_eats not in the historical center I'm afraid. The ones I know are in Vilvoorde. The price of the stoemp is even more outrageous bc there's probably about 3€ worth of produce in that dish 🤣 If you ever come back here, I suggest you try the macabre-themed bar "Le Cercueil" , a few steps away from the Grand Place.

As mentioned "tonton" is colloquial French for "uncle". Though you also have the '"tonton flingueur", a hitman (a flingue is a handgun).

12:23 Interesting enough, Vol-au-vent is not just Belgian, but also French and even Dutch. Known as Koninginnehapje in Dutch language. But the centre of it is probably Brussels, so that checks. 13:11 The Dutch name for it is Gentse Waterzooi, from Gent, or Ghent, or Gand in French. A proper Flemish dish.

Vol-au-vent is completely different from Gentse waterzooi which is a kind of soup with fish or chicken !!!
