On the night of June 2nd 2011, rogue authorities orchestrated the brutal cull of 150-200 dogs with strychnine poisoning in the old bus stand area of Kakinada. Activists who protested were threatened and harassed.
The perpetrators hired children, aged 12-14, to carry out the killings.
Killing dogs is illegal in India, and has been proven to increase the likelihood of rabies transmission. Dog culls are becoming increasingly widespread in the wake of a rabies outbreak that has killed at least 15 people in northe Andhra Pradesh in the last month. Unfortunately, ignorance and thuggery prevails.
