On the night of June 2nd 2011, rogue authorities orchestrated the brutal cull of 150-200 dogs with strychnine poisoning in the old bus stand area of Kakinada. Activists who protested were threatened and harassed.
The perpetrators hired children, aged 12-14, to carry out the killings.
Killing dogs is illegal in India, and has been proven to increase the likelihood of rabies transmission. Dog culls are becoming increasingly widespread in the wake of a rabies outbreak that has killed at least 15 people in northe Andhra Pradesh in the last month. Unfortunately, ignorance and thuggery prevails.

A stray dog dies so what. In India and every where in the world you do what you have to. in India they are not a rich country they can NOT afford to do those vaccines. $25 vaccine or $1 bullet. Try spending time there living with the people living with the farmers you mind will be changed rather quickly.

Check out the story of Kharkov, Ukraine. With somewhat a culling (before the then forthcoming Euro-2012 Soccer Cup) for the aggressive packs, and Western-style Trap-Store-Euthanize shelters, the incidents of human bites from the strays have been down to almost zero in a short time -after 12 or so years of failed TNR, over 1.5k stray dog bites a year & every 1/5 public facilities(500+ tested) like parks or kids playgrounds / sandboxes infested with toxocara or ascaris eggs. Oh, and no rabies.

to a certain degree I agree to get rid of rabies vaccines are in order. but you FALL to listen or learn India is not the richest country in the world, animals are not as important as humans, and if you want to make a difference then go over there and pay for the vaccines ALL OF THEM. You might find that a vaccine there is almost 3x more depending on location. How do I know this well talk to people that are from there.

TNR for dogs is a miserably failed experiments that has cost human lives. The largest one I know of was in Moscow, Russia, and it was stopped after mauling of humans, the last one-- the case of mr. Gaidarzhinsky. The only policy that works is unlimited admittance shelter policy of the West-- dogs are caught and placed in a shetler; if noone comes for them, they are euthanized. US toll top 9M dogs/year at times; French is ~0.5M dogs/year. Nonkilling methods are money laundering that kills humans.

So where exactly did ANY TNR program (in the first place, TNR in the West is only for cats, and there has never been any notion of releasing a trapped pariah dog) get to become a success -- with no shit in the streets, no bites and no infections? Shootings and poisonings have been a major success in USSR and are a success in Belarus today -- no man was/is mauled. Khrakiv, Ukraine is a success with no-return unlimited admission shelters. TNR is a costly epic fail, which costs human lives, period.

Personal inbox on here would do. Herd immunity is irrelevant; you have to re-vaccinate 70-75%+ of all dogs every year, clearly impossible with the numbers of strays present. "Soviet" culling does work -- by simply limiting the numbers of possible hosts. Put it that way: when the commies did cull, death from rabies was impossible in 1M+ city and was unheard of; since TNR-activists came, there ARE death from rabies every year in .RU/.UA/etc. There also are maulings to death in large cities. FAIL.

and with 6-digit figures of dogs in the streets for say, Moscow or Kiev -- it is not possible. In the meanwhile, trash cans are still being devoured to make rats happy, children are getting bitten, and ca 10 tons of dog shit with all possible parasites still hit the steets every day. In India it is worse -- because of the warmer climate and general attitude of those folks -- a large 1M+ city has more dogs than any xUSSR one. Dog control success == no bites, no rabies, no helminthiases, no shit.

It is very easy to replicate the Western model. The name of the game is no pariah dogs in the streets. Kill all pariahs, mandate chipping of the pets and neutering, fine irresponsible owners, and build TSE shelters -- and voila -- no strays, no bites, no rabies, no helminthiases and no dog shit in the streets in many tons a day. P.S.I'd appreciate ISBN or volume # of smth serious -- like, Nature, Lancet and so on, where they claim dog TNR is good for rabies control & helminthiases prevention.

There's too many humans, esp. in India, why don't they remove them rather than killing pets and wild life, forest are cut down, animals domesticated. 98% of all animals on earth are now considered domesticated, large part of them pets and farm animals. It wasn't always like this

@kommireddypavan im not gonna do anything because (1) i dont care, and (2) there is nothing i can do anyway. i have better things to be doing anyway; like manipulating people for money... its practically my job :P you wouldnt know because you are probably poor, and have nothing better to do than taking out your insecurities on dogs.
