5 Fold Understanding the artist on JLoA is Hugo Petrus.... and I can’t find the Jim Lee cover in which you speak anywhere, unless it was some crazy exclusive one.
@5foldunderstanding5476 жыл бұрын
KyleRyznarMMA *Not Rebirth* It's All-Star Batman & Robin Boy Wonder #1 ((Jim Lee Cvr. Written by Frank Miller))! I figured everybody owned that #1 ish,,, if Not Also see: the Graphic Novel which I'm pretty sure it's also the Cvr of (vol.1). TOP HALF Of Batsy Solar Plexus & Up, is 100% what was Swiped for said panel.
@KyleRyznarMMA6 жыл бұрын
5 Fold Understanding I own the hardcover...but I don’t see it... it’s similar but it’s also Batman only so many ways Batman can be drawn in the same style

ComicsLegend There's open Spots at DC/ *See: The Newest TERRIBLY DRAWN Ish of JLoA* (w/ Dope Chronos Cvr).. Also @12:25TS Bats Jump-Kick panel; The Chest & Up is 100% Swiped from J.Lee's All-Star Batman #1 Cvr.
@ComicsLegend6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, swipes are more common than we think. Even the greats used to swipe other artists to keep on model and style when they took over drawing books. I think I read somewhere that even the great John Romita Sr. used to swipe so that he could learn from the masters. I guess as long as you give credit to the artist then I think it should be ok if you are studying.
@5foldunderstanding5476 жыл бұрын
Erasmus Beethoven Well EB "All-Star Batmn & Robin Boy Wonder #1 Cvr." ALSO used for Cvr. Of GN Written by Frank Miller. IMO Is 1 of Jim Lee's 4 Greatest {Most Recongizible} covers ever. *So to me IT REALLY STANDS OUT,* Swipng the top half of A Flagship Cvr for A panel isn't smart for A portfolio. BUT I DO AGREE w/ YOU- THERE'S SO MUCH ART OUT THERE ITS EXTREMELY TOUGH TO SAY "Whatever It is" is A definitive Swipe/Carbon copy or not (but Google All-Star Batman & Robin #1 Jim Lee Cvr./ Click images & you'll C the similarities from the 12:25TS Panel) & Yes Theirs Never been an Onslaught of Fun/Good looking books out there to pick images from..
@5foldunderstanding5476 жыл бұрын
ComicsLegend 100% Agree.. Also there's so much out there already,,,, one could easily be blamed of swiping/copying (( EVS called it "Compositing" )) even when they didn't.. All because there's only so many ways to draw say "Aquaman swimming", "Bane's Arms" or whatever.

I'm no artist, and definitely not a professional one, but if I had one thing that kept bothering me, it was Bane's fingers. They kept looking like they were as flat as paper, there was no girth to them, so they didn't look like real fingers. They almost looked like party horns. They wound up looking more creepy than powerful to me. I did like the second page where Batman was perched on part of the building and how the Batmobile was done though. Very nice.

I randomly stumbled on this video and know it's a bit old now. It's a really good portfolio, he should be proud he's multi-talented, wonder if he was hired. I've never considered even trying to apply for comics because it seems too impossible, but I know I can do this level of art and you praising him so much has kind of made me think maybe I should look into it.

The cylindrical tanks on bane's back bug me the whole time. The perspective on them always seems off. Also, what happened to the tanks on Bane's back when he's been beaten by batman? Bane is lying on his back but the tanks dont' seem to occupy any space. The buildings are great, the characters need work.

I really like this a lot, I actually have a David Finch print hanging behind me right now that is very much like what we are looking at. I have one criticism though. He puts too much detail into the backgrounds. It's amazing work, but it's easy to lose the focus of character against the amazingly drawn backgrounds. If I was doing a high detail background, I would pull out away from the characters a bit. I also agree, it's better to use softer cross hatching on flesh. It's better if one of your hatching strokes follows the contour of the shape, in general.

(also...) Obviously its not all perfect, but the best comic art is always the kind of stuff where you can tell how much effort the artist put in. This comic is full of WORK. And that's all anyone can ask for. Great stuff
@misterprickly6 жыл бұрын
My biggest problem is with the way Batman is drawn. The design is far to *muscily.* Unless Bruce Wayne spent considerable time sculpting every cinue and vein pop into the costume; he should not look like that. And um... Where are his hips? In the panel where Batman stands over Bane, his legs seem to sprout from his belt. Bane's musculature, even for a super-roided, uber-jock is anatomically incorrect. Also... Where's his nose? I find too many artists flattening the face when they're given a character with a full head mask (balaclava). This happens with Spider-man too. On the pro side... LOVE the detail in the backgrounds. as well as the beautiful use of light and shadow. I would suggest he work on his anatomy and poses.

If I had to criticize his work for any reason it would be his action scenes. So many speed lines and weird flow to the panels. Speed lines diagonal! Speed lines center! Speed lines right...speedlines left!! LEFT punch! Weird undynamic static close up! Right punch! lol beyond that he's almost flawless..

OK, impressive at first, but loads of Finch/Quesada/Yu in it. No real originality. Bart Sears had good advise for storytelling. Draw a guy leaving an office building, real people, cars, he goes into a park and changes into a superhero, flies away. And I disagree, I like the 90s teeth. :)

Technically the art is good most of the time...sad thing is the guy straight up traced some art from Fabok, Finch and Jim Lee. Not referenced it, traced it. Then there's this completely different style on the faces, that's Freddie Williams from Batman/ TMNT...😒 What a hack. Notice how the stuff he drew by heart is much lower quality .
