When I was 4 years old I was at universal? disney? and my only memory is being a cafeteria restaurant place and my mom was like "go find a seat" and i went and sat down with a lady cosplaying as Xena: Warrior Princess. being 4 years old i thought she was a real princess and a real warrior and the literal Xena Warrior Princess.

@Frizzurd Yet you'll find that the "retro spectrum" will keep moving forward. When I first discovered YT in 2006, it was all about the 1980s, with the '90s still a hated decade at that point. A decade for now, we'll be seeing commentary on Razr cellphones, iPhone 1-3, social media apps, ringtone rappers, freecreditreport.com ads, and even those pharmaceutical/insurance ads that so many hate today.
@pannoni8449
@pannoni8449 3 жыл бұрын
@Frizzurd I can still see what you mean, and a lot of it has to do with a shift in fashions/vibe. The KZfaqr obviously prefers his Sub Pop Record artists compared to the headbangers of the glam metal years. And it seems now there is a backlash against 1980s nostalgia (and the 2010s) thanks to a new president being elected, but of course, I'll still continue to showcase the '80s and '90s equally on my channels (a slight edge to the '80s actually), with a few surprises from earlier decades on occasion. At least the '90s (except for perhaps 1998-99) isn't as tech obsessed as the 2000s and beyond has been and has a nice aura of organicity.

I know no one cares or will read this, but this video made my night. I haven't been too fond of the mystery vhs series, uts just not my thing, but ill still watch them. I had a horrible day at work and just wanted to turn my brain off fir a but while I ate dinner and put thus on. I was so excited and happy when he talked about Xena. Uts a show I love and grew up with that no one knows about or cares about enough to talk about. Most people are just aware that it exists. My favorite episode is "the bitter suite" which was the musical episode he talks about. The episode us a climatic conclusion of a series long arguments between Xena and Gabrielle. Xena had a son, back when she was evil, but kept him in the care of a centaur so he would be safe and gave a better upbringing than she could provide. Gabrielle was impregnated by a cult God and gave birth to a girl she named Hope. Xena tried killing hope many times knowing she was evil, and drove wedge between the two of them Gabrielle sent hope down a river in a basket, hoping she would find a good life. A few episodes go by and they decide to visit Solan, Xenas son. Gabrielle realizes that one of the children in the village is hope (due to her being evil shes now like 7) and she tries to run away with her. Hope under the direction of Callisto, whose family was murdered by Xena in her evil days, kills Solan and the centaur watching him. Xrna knows the culprit and forces Gabrielle to poison her daughter. As the bodies of their children are burning in a pyre, Xena tells her to never speak her sons name, and due to her and her evil daughter and her lies her son is dead. They part ways, and the bitter suite begins. Thank you brutalmoose for creating a video that brought me some joy out of a horrible time in my life

I've been collecting VHS for years now, and the only... questionable... material I _ever_ found out of ~500 tapes was on a tape from my _grandmother_ that she gave me to record over. It was probably an HBO recording that ran long into their overnight hours. Said recording has since long been recorded over by _The Price Is Right_ I think that it's an overblown occupational hazard of VHS collecting. Most stores toss the home-recorded tapes because of privacy issues (often they're tapes of birthday parties and trips -- literal home videos) and copyright issues (can't sell a home recording legally, but you can technically sell the tape itself). Even if a batch of home-records ends up on the sales floor, they probably won't have anything scandalous in them, because the grandkids will probably toss all the tapes in shock if they find that kind of stuff.

Gum was such a thing in the 90s/early-mid-2000s. Everyone chewed gum, everyone had gum on them, half the impulse buy rack and a notable portion of a shelf or two in the candy aisle at the grocery store was gum. No idea why, but I do remember reading an article at some point that said the downturn in people chewing gum was very closely correlated to the 2008 recession and resulting decrease in disposable income.
@kaitlyn__L

I think it replaced smoking for a lot of people as a habit and something to do with their hands and mouths. And, yeah, not only did people downsize their expenditures but gum also got a lot more expensive. Seeing 25¢ on the Wrigley's packs in the ads was wild.

In California we use to have a pick'n'pull (that's literally was the name) Now it's call U pick U pull, a lot of people go there to get whatever parts they need. It's cheaper to get the parts there cause it's not going to cost them an arm and leg to get one. Some are really lucky and get a car that is in really good condition and the part are near perfect and they take it apart to get their parts. My dad LOVES going there whenever he needs a part for a car or truck. My brother he works there and gets a pretty good discount on the parts too. Also he gets to pick a part before they set out in the yard. Lol

That was never concrete, to be honest. I loved the show and only in the last couple of seasons where the fan fic took over the actual show (talk about jumping the shark) that it was shoved down our throats that they were a lesbian couple. Before that, it was implied at times, but more often it was that they were best friends (possibly with benefits?), and while I have absolutely nothing against a show about a gay couple, I think they really capitulated to a small subset of the fanhood and it really ruined the chemistry and freshness of the show.

@@swagnostic132 I get where you're coming from, and if it had been a natural progression or really hinted at (not a sharp left turn because of fan fiction - I guess you had to be there at the time - it was never the focus of the show or anything more than they were best friends - there was a lot of fan fic, same as with Hercules and Iolaus. It was just something fans play with and it is fun as fan fiction and pretty common in a LOT of tv shows - but then they actually let fan fic internet "authors" write scripts for the show - almost like a gimmick - and it completely changed the trajectory and success of the show to go downhill).
