I found this mower on the curb on trash day, headed to the landfill. It would not start. Let's see if we can diagnose the issue and get it running again. It's model 7800886. It has a Briggs and Stratton 725ex 190cc engine.

In the mid-sixties someone gave my Dad a gas mower that wasn't working. With some work he got the motor running but the shaft was bent so that when this thing ran it jumped up and down about 6 inches. So he took the gas engine off and mounted a washing machine motor in its place. We had the first electric lawn mower in the neighbourhood! That sucker ran for more than 30 years. Nice work rescuing these machines.

SO glad to know you didn’t leave KZfaq completely, and that you still have videos here for the rest of us! Great stuff! Educational and inspiring! All of it; amps, mowers, whatever… … Being constantly bent over and crouched down gets old after a while, and it makes me want to not work on stuff at all. You may want to go back and get that custom wood table in the beginning of the video, just to have as a work bench for stuff like these mowers…

I'm amazed that someone would send a perfectly good mower to the dump, instead of selling it for $100 or at least trying to recycle it. If someone's worried about the environmental impact of a gas mower, take it to the scrap yard instead of sending it to the dump.

this is why i don't bother taking apart mowers without properly cleaning them. at first they get hosed down with wd40, then pressure washed intensely everywhere to blast out all dirt, then wd40 again. after that you can take it apart and clean the insides.

Not to sound condescending but your lawn needs some help. hope you can get it fixed up someday, it is quite a bit of work but worth it once you start seeing results. spring and fall care is important to creating a nice lawn and is more satisfying and rewarding when you cut it. a good place to start is aeration and dethatching over seeding and fertilizing!

Great video but a few things. You can take the coil off and check it with a voltmeter using the resistance(ohms) setting and if your around at least 4-5 ohms your good. You didn’t have to take the top cover off again just get the bolt off the choke arm and leave the choke arm under the cover. Never spray parts cleaner in the needle seat because it will make it swell and then it’s no good. On the quantum engines there are two thing bad with it. 1) the bowl nut or main jet is clogged and 2) the needle and seat might be bad. Definitely going to subscribe because nobody knows it all and I’m sure i will always learn something new.

@@Fixologist1 well I take them off the engine and measure them for resistance all the time and never failed me yet. Sometimes easier than checking to see if there is spark
@Fixologist1
@Fixologist1 10 ай бұрын
@@toddosterhout9866 The primary coil is just one part of the magneto assembly. There is a primary coil and a secondary coil, then there is a trigger coil also, which has a couple transistors and a resistor in a little circuit also. So when you test continuity from the spark plug terminal to, say, the ground lug on the magneto, you're really only testing the continuity of the secondary coil, ignoring all the other stuff inside there. Here's a video that might explain it better: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLScjMWnqb-aoH0.html

In a no spark situation, disconnect the kill wire from the coil. If it still doesn't spark, the coil is bad. It's a good idea to sand any rust off the flywheel, and clean the laminates with brake cleaner.

Dirt and debris build up under the shroud and between the fins, blocking cooling air flow from the flywheel/fan. The engine overheats and a valve seat pops out of place. Common problem.

I don't know if I told you this Brad but I got a free mower about 11 or 12 years ago for free and at first I thought it was rod knock but it was actually the engine itself was loose on the mower deck and that was making that sound and the air filter wasn't as bad as the one you showed but pretty close it was either oil or fuel saturated and I put a new filter and a few other parts and it runs like new and I'm still using that same mower 11 or 12 years later.

I don't know, but I would assume so. If, for example, you had a Briggs motor on a pressure washer, it should just be a standard motor used in other equipment with an impeller of some type attached to the shaft. Never worked on a gas pressure washer, so I don't know.

How long would it take to move a load of produce from southern California to NYC? would it even still be eat able by the time it gets there? You think we have SUPPLY CHAIN problems today, it will be devastating if that ever happens. Obviously no one has actually thought about what can go wrong.
