probably he meant it was overrated for the character, cause Walt was already becoming Heisenberg by then. So, if you intent your main character to be just pure evil, saving a life wouldn't match with the concept. It was just the beginning. It was such a horrible scene and terrible loss regardless Jane's plans, but she had to get out of Walter's way, so, the best thing to do was to let her die. He never killed her, but he didn't save her either. ´Perfect changing moment for Walt

Vince Gilligan talks about this scene a lot too as one that really sticks with him. He says you really need the high definition, uncompressed version of the footage to really appreciate the insanely world-class acting Bryan is doing and the subtle, almost imperceptable range of emotions he is putting forth--shock, fear, happiness, uncertainty, love, hate, worry--all in a few seconds. Vince said it's the best acting he's ever witnessed in person.

He was already world famous for his role as Hal in Malcolm in The Middle. That is what we call a once in a lifetime role. A role that as an actor, you could go to sleep satisfied that you ever got the chance to play that role even once in your career. The reason Bryan Cranston’s story is so fascinating is that he got a once in a lifetime role twice. Even if he had never played the role of Walter White he would have died a famous legendary actor for how he brought Hal to life. But he managed to get a second once in a lifetime role in a show and for this he will be immortalized as an actor and for me personally, my favorite actor of all time.

I realize this is an old comment, but it's arguably this scene that pushed Walter over that point of no return, partially because it was a betrayal of Jesse. It was one thing for one of his little street friends to get caught in the line of fire doing the job, but this was different. There are too many layers to really go into in a comment like this, but I think this is where Heisenberg truly replaces Walter.

Honestly the scene that killed me and still kills me is t he scene where Jacks gang is dragging Jessie from under the car he is hiding in towards the end of the series. Mainly because at that point I really really liked Jessie as a character (probably because unlike the others he developed a moral backbone and understood the bigger picture of what he was involved in), and to see him turned into a slave with those he loved technically held hostage was gutwrenching. Its honestly why I felt like I had to watch El Camino when it came out. I always felt that if one character in the show truly deserved a second shot at life it was him.

Personally, what broke me was Walt's speech "I am the one who knocks". It was clear for me at that point that Walt's goal wasn't making cash for his family anymore, it was about him fueling his ego, his Heisenberg persona. He was introduced as a kind, seemingly innocent teacher, only for us to see the monster Walt becomes by the 3rd season. What gets me is the realistic depiction of how even the kindest souls can become monsters like Walter does by the final seasons when given the fatal push

I'm late for the party, but I got to know Bryan through interviews (especially on the Graham Norton show) before watching the Big BB. I thought he was charming, endearing, sweet and magical. Finally, after sitting down and watching the show...I'll need to binge hours of interviews with him to remind me as to the gentle soul I was first introduced. Walter White is vicious, and sick. It's scary how Bryan can manifest such a transformation. I thought Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman were the only two who could transform themselves.. But No...Bryan here is a wizard of a whole deeper level...

That was the funnily enough the most memorable scene for me too and I’m halfway through the seasons. He just seemed so torn and yet helpless, because he had already committed to his bad path, to protect his family. He knew he was going to watch her die, as if he were a prisoner watching. I thought part of his tears, he also kept for himself in that moment.

This is why I don’t think I could become an actor. Not because I couldn’t do it, I think I’d be great, but I anticipate that with so much reframing in your mind you’d have to do and truly adopting your script character as you that you’d have to do to be a good actor, I’m not sure I could emotionally keep my own sense of identity and grounding in reality.
