Leafs need to add more picks in this years draft and next. Hate when they have to trade back out of the first round. Lilgren, Robertson, Jarnkrok, Kampf should be traded for picks.

Hayes is bang on - he had double hip surgery in Sweden at the start of COVID. If Leafs sign another solid goalie that is $10 Mil locked up in the pipes. If they don't, good luck with Woll as your prime guy. This could get as ugly as the Jays.

It looks like the leafs are confident that the D-core will be good enough to support the goalies behind them. I'm expecting a huge upgrade on D this summer.

Best point Hayes brings forward is about all the times the team didn’t sign players early and price went up. People complaining need to remember that.

In case everyone has forgotten... the Leafs didn't give up a bunch of goals in the playoffs!! The issue is they DON'T FKN SCORE in the playoffs!! Be ready this year because they will get bounced again. Only thing they have going for them is a coach that doesn't coddle players.

Hayes is right. Dubas adopted Lamoriello's mantra of 'wait if you have time'. That works well at times & not so well at other times, like the Matthews/Marner 1st RFA deals. Had Dubas NOT waited & signed both at his first opportunity (after the 2nd year of their ELCs) & BEFORE he signed Tavares he would've got Matthews for 9-10M aav & Marner for about 8M aav. By waiting, as Lou preached, Matthews had another solid year showing he was scoring at .53 goal per game rate & Marner went off for 94 pts in his final ELC year after 61 & 69 pts in his first 2 years. Waiting on those 2 cost the Leafs a lot more money. Tree is taking a gamble. Assuming Woll plays as he did prior to his high ankle sprain & as he has as a playoff starter, then the contract will look like a bargain as of next year. I'm hoping Woll stays healthy this time around & Tree will look smart for not waiting until Woll's price could've gone up significantly. We'll see.

The smartest moves for MLSE will transpire as follows: Have Marner play out his contract and not resign him - it doesn't matter if they get nothing for him in a trade this year, his contract will be off the books, they would have paid him anyway. Players on their final year of expiring contracts play harder. Once Draisaitl is available end of next year they should put the best offer forward to acquire his superior PLAYOFFS services. The current highest paid player on the Leafs couldn't care less about winning in the playoffs - he's not going to risk injury, or sacrifice long term future pain to do whatever it takes to win, it also cuts into his down time back home in Arizona (chilling on the yacht with Bieber and his friends). 34 wouldn't sign for eight years because he wants to keep his options open, so four years is all he gave us. If the Leafs wimp out again in next years playoffs then get rid of Prima Donna Matthews and go after a player that will sacrifice his own well being to win. When McDavid comes available the following year it's incumbent on MLSE to bring him home - If Lebron can go home to Cleveland, McDavid can come home to Toronto - his career is finite, and too short, and don't tell me it can't or won't happen, the decision ultimately lies with Leon, & Connor. Who cares if Matthews scores 80 regular season goals. If he can't dominate in the playoffs we don't need him. He'll be more than happy to go play in La La land. Then take the 13.25M he's getting and use it to bring in McDavid for 16M. Of course those in charge of hockey operations only view 34 as a merchandise revenue generator for MLSE - they too don't care if the Leafs win in the playoffs - they'll still make their millions in salary, and don't have the balls, or are willing to follow through with what's best for building a playoff competitive team..Bowmanville Dave

😂What did you learn from Lou when you took over the GM job? Patience. 🤣 Then Dubas runs out and overspends for Tavares while the Leafs are the 3rd highest scoring team in the NHL. Concerning the Marner deal, in the end it won’t be management but the Moronto media who push out Marner just like they did with Kadri. Bring Domi back?😂 There’s a reason why he’s never gone past a 2 yr contract with his 6 or 7 other NHL teams. He signed 2 yrs with the Habs, scored 70+ points his first year than barely over 40 the next. So go ahead and sign Domi.

Leafs management spend as if they don't have a cap to deal with. If there was no cap leafs could clearly pay whatever they want to any player because money is not the issue. But there is this pesky thing called a cap. If woll ends up being number 1 and kills it then 4 mil is great but if he's your backup then he's 2.5 max..much like others on here have said
