How to make a planter box / base with an integrated umbrella stand. This build is super simple and has been one of my most favorite simple weekend builds. This replaces the small lightweight bases you might find at the big box stores. High wind support for any umbrella size. Happy Building!
My 10' Outdoor umbrella with LED Lights. Great for nighttime too!

just an FYI, portable planter wheel sold in Daiso might be the way to go, you can put under any planter. I guess it also works with this one.

I have thought of wheels butt 1. Would have to be heavy duty wheels to take the weight and 2. Even though the thing is heavy can it be rolled then by a very strong wind?

I absolutely love this idea and as a person who loves to be creative, I never thought of this. I was debating on Amazon which heavy duty base to buy, I’m going to do this instead. It looks so good. I currently have cinder blocks on top of the base which just doesn’t look too good🥴. Thank you for this idea.

As a single mom I need to make one for my new Umbrella... I didn't know that you didn't have to mix the concrete, can you explain why you don't have to? Does your area have high wind gusts? I live in Kansas and we do. As of right now my current base with 50 lbs of sand on it doesn't hold up to the Kansas wind. Thanks for your video

There are charts for umbrella stands/bases. It will tell you how much the base should way for whatever size umbrella you have. It's roughly 10 lbs per foot. So a 6 foot umbrella would need 60 pounds, a 7 foot umbrella would need 70lbs. Hope that helps.

This is really nice, I have had an umbrella for 5 years and could not use it because that part of the base is missing, is it really important to have it leveled though?I am a novice and would not want to miss out out on doing this because levelling skills are non existent here.haha

I asked if they cut the pipe down and they do not. I actually purchased a hack saw and cut my 12' pipe in the parking lot of the home depot int o6' pieces. Yes, drill a hole and put something like a trailer pin in the hole to hold everything down.

I made a few of these for my yard. They're great, but the only drawback is they still tip over in the high winds. The base although heavy has a small diameter and tips easily destroying the umbrella. I'm still looking for a solution.
@laurenciaciprus5491
@laurenciaciprus5491 2 жыл бұрын
What if you bolted a flat iron weight to the bottom through the pot? It will expand the diameter of the base and stabilize it. I’d like to make a few of these myself - also wondering if a square pot might be more stable?
@patriot20000
@patriot20000 2 жыл бұрын
Square would help. I made the mistake of stuffing a tall, metal planter with empty water bottles to fill space in the bottom half instead of more potting mix. A good wind took it over. Now I use water filled ice tea bottles, or a big rock in smaller ones.

👍🏻 Bravo ! I want to make a similar. Question though… my umbrella is a “hanging one on the side” which means I have to have pretty heavy foot. Since the weight is on the side more… how wide does the bottom need to be? The original foot is like 94 x 94 cm and if I do similar to yours the footprint is the smaller. What do you think? They recommend at least 50-65 kg of weight. Also I’d really like to have wheels on the bottom. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
