You missed very important step. You must do Toluene saturation at 60 Celsius with water before the test within 24 hrs is better. Just follow toluene saturation procedure as per ASTM D4007. Anyway, good short explanation.

Nice , just If the samples is different in density should be equal balance by addition drop of solvent to avoid the danger of tubes breaking.

If ASTM D-4007 is the laboratory method for determining sediment and water in crude oil and "impurities are measured as BASIC sediment and water results"; then what other S&W results are there? For instance, is there an ADVANCE sediment and water? Thank you for the excellent video.

To my knowledge the term "basic" refers just to the fundamental nature of the test and its importance in evaluating the quality of crude oil.. the amount of non hydrocarbons contaminants in crude oil samples.. ASTM D4007 speaking about sum of both impurities S&W , were you can get sediment in crude by extraction ASTM method D473 , or water in crude by distillation method ASTM method D4006 Hopefully this help

FIRST Sorry for the late RESPONSE, and thank you for bringing this out. Yes D96 is the "field procedure" , but D4007 is " laboratory procedure" , , The Lab procedure D4007 is more accurate and you can find this statment mentioned in the scops of D96

why do we use toluene solvent in this process? can we use only crude oil sample with demulsifer?

Salam Mohammed The solvent is added to reduce the viscosity and dissolve Paraffin and Asphaletene that can cause inaccurate result. You can use different solvent like shellsol instead of toluene Not recommended to do that without solvent , maybe it might work for some samples but you never know the characteristics of your sample , my advise is better to follow avilable ASTM D4007 standart testing method
