It would be foolish to do all of the work carried out so far and with having replaced the conrods and big ends, not to check the oil pump over.
Here, I take a look at the components that make up the oil pump, having stripped it just prior to filming this clip.

😅 g'day Paul, the only time my classic bikes wet sump is from under use, so the night before the bike I'm going to use has the oil drained, the worst contender is my Royal Enfield Bullet 500 but it's the easiest to fix, undo that front sump plug and drain but don't forget to put the plug back and check the oil level, cheers mate Neil 🤠.

The risk of wet sumping is always compounded in bikes which are not in daily use, which these days is almost all of them!. I'm in full agreement, change the pump.

Definitely do away with the tape and I'd fit a new oil pump probably from SRM. Love the work you do my best wishes from the Philippines 🌹👍😀😉😁🤔😁🏍️🛺🐑🇵🇭🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I fitted an SRM pump which solved the wet-sumping problem on an A7SS I was the custodian of a few years ago.

All that work and expense I would 100% replace the oil pump.

Wonder what the life expectancy was for a reasonably well serviced engine from the factory

Probably quite respectable, I would have thought.

Great question. I would guess a British bike from the 60s and 70s should go 20,000-30,000 miles before valve work or more is required. Clutch maintenance and an occasional gasket well before that. My 2 cents.

Paul is there any way to install an oil pressure gauge to a 1966 A65?

Hey Paul, do you still use the bushing from a Ford tractor as a replacement for the BSA timing side bush?
@paulhenshaw4514

So far only one used and I presume all is well. It is a viable option which can cater for small undersizes and probably made of better stuff than a lot of other options doing the rounds at present.

No, these are alloy by 'R&R', from Burton Bike Bits. American made, apparently.

@Turnipstalk BSA Beagle - I have no direct experience of them, but as with many others - including certain Hondas - were they as bad as the story tellers made out?
