This would have been a nice air rifle , but the way Dave treats this fine piece of precision machinery he will do more damage than repairs. Never seen anything as rough in all my life. Never rest a rifle on its rear sight !!!!!!!!! or use a vice bare on the cylinder !!!!!!! I have two Airsporters of my own and with a little patience, the trigger block can be unscrewed by putting a bar in the hole in the block put there for the purpose,having an assistant hold the cylinder with both hands and tapping the end of the bar with a hammer. Been doing this since 1958 so am speaking from experience.

Just done the same job on mine only, thick padding in the vice, parts placed in bins not thrown willy nilly, piston removed without hammering, (lucky on that one I guess?) All parts cleaned and de greased with solvent, piston gone over with 240 then 400 grit w& d NO MACHINES USED, only hands and elbow grease, then metal to metal bits polished with Solvol. Air chamber polished but still to have a light glaze busting while waiting for spare parts. Should have videoed it really DOH!!!

Roosterdebooster Hi, Congratulations on getting an Airsporter. Treat it like you would your wife or girlfriend, Gently! As I said in my comment, soft jaws in the vice or some type of padding. to loosen the back block find the best fitting lmplement you can for the hole in the block, and give it a sharp rap, it's a normal handed thread. Ne mine was loosened i put it in a Workmate clamping the barrel and with plenty padding between me an the back block unscrewed it til it came out, luckily not much pre load. After that pull out the spring and push out the piston, once again i was lucky mine came straight out with a push of a wooden dowel. after that it was wet and dry paper 240, 400, and 800 grit then finally Solvol polish. Hope this helps, pretty straight forward, just take your time and treat it like eggs!! good luck

Yeah gunsmith, if a had no hands and feet I would try to fix it with my teeth rather than take it there. Bdw now the rifle needs some new bluing.

@NaDunta1 'I totally agree with you. This is absolutely not the right way to restore any (air)gun. Most respected or not GM'70,not using the rubber plate in the workbench, rough handling. Removing the piston by hammering and an pliers(!!!!??) grinding on the piston,(!!!??) . Use the lathe! Damaging the blueing by hitting the bench and the aircilinder (!!??). Please use some towels for not damaging the rifle if you hit the shafts, etc. Anyway, it doesn't looks professional....

I've got a .22 Airsporter, about 40 years old now. The piston had completely seized and I had to use brute-force methods to dismantle it. Got the parts I needed for under £20.00 and it seems OK now. Getting the mainspring back in took about half-a-day's grappling, there's probably an easier way if you know how. Might make a video to show it.

Nice................pity that the guy had his back to camera when doing things i have a meteor that is well passed its life ........i.e over 30years old had it new but the barrel wont break to cock rifle i am assuming spring is stuffed:O) so seeing this vid may inspire me to have a go at repairing dont want to part with it even though it doesnt work

Totally useless video. We get yards of pointless yak from the guy at the outset and much of the demo is out of sight behind someone's back. They know virtually nothing about making a decent demo video and even less about guns I suspect.
@MickyMoz5 жыл бұрын
So you are gonna follow up with how to strip and polish the action ready for re bluing ? Because that is what you need to do next. Shockingly bad video buddy.

Can't see anything straight....you need to do more closeups and explain what are you doing and what materials are you using....and maybe get a lttle bit more informed before doing any kind of restoration attempts....it was a very poor execution...
