As a barber i can say that there is no such term as a military flattop. When a recruit graduates from bmt the regs state they are required to have a high n tight haircut. No hair is allowed to show below your cover. The top can be up to one and a half inches in length. If the recruit chooses he can wear a flatop but generally the base barber does not ask how he wants to wear the top.

I shave my head too. I wash my head with plain soap and water then dry it off and apply aftershave then a moisturizer.

I keep the back and sides of my head clean shaven bald by firstly moistened the area with warm water plus a little hair conditioner. I keep the area continously moist this way for at least 2 minutes approximately then apply hair conditioner straight from the bottle and spread it all over the area I'm going to razor fairly thinly but not sparingly ( you'll get to know) and spend only a few moments massaging it in then.. the satisfying part.. start shaving with the grain. When shaving is complete rinse off and towel off excess water and if I want to I'll apply the same amount o of conditioner again before shaving in the opposite direction then rinsing off when finished with plenty of warm water, towel dry and apply a little light moisturising lotion. So much better than using aerosol foam or soap.

Horseshoe flattop with skin on the sides is easy to do. I can do it in about 10minutes. Wore my hair that way for about 10 years before I started shaving my head.

@@colincruickshanks7578 if you want it then just do it. Go to the barbershop get in the chair tell the barber you want to do the deed. Sit back and relax.
