A new three-part series documenting the history of the British Touring Car Championship first Broadcast on ITV4 in February 2014.
The series tells the inside story of the British Touring Car Championship from the first race on Boxing Day 1957 to the present day. Narrated by Tiff Needell, the three one-hour shows mix evocative archive footage with bespoke interviews with the major protagonists, from drivers to team managers to Murray Walker. Each episode focuses on a different period, shedding fresh light on the legendary drivers, the legendary cars and the legendary moments that have made the BTCC such a success.
Touring Car Legends has been written and directed by Gaucho Productions Managing Director, Alistair Weaver. “I fell in love with cars watching the Ford RS500’s do battle in the 1980s so this project has been a real treat for me,” he says. “The British Touring Car Championship has always been about the cars and the characters and with the passage of time we’ve been able to tell what really happened in some of the sport’s most memorable moments.”
John Claridge, Head of Programme Strategy at ITV4, adds: “ITV4 is the home of the British Touring Car Championship and the Touring Car Legends series is an ideal compliment to our coverage of the 2014 season. We’re delighted to be working with Gaucho again on another insightful sports documentary - the show will appeal to both the diehard Touring Car enthusiast and the casual viewer interested in great characters and great racing.”

Lovely to hear Murray Walker's commentaries and interviews, given his very sad passing.

Delighted that Frank Gardner is remembered here. If ever Motor Sport magazine needed a wry and acerbic comment on the Porsche 917 or the Ford 3-litre sports car, there was Frank. He was interviewed for a video about Sir Jack Brabham and commented, "there was a race in 1960. There were the great drivers there, the Stirling Mosses, the Jimmy Clarks, the Alan Staceys. And out of the shit and mist came Jack Brabham to win the race." Yep, that was Frank!

I remember going to Silverstone on Sundays to watch the saloon car races when I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford in the early 1970's. I couldn't believe they were racing Galaxies against Minis and Jaguar sedans. especially when the British cars were cornering on three wheels.

I must also be a relic since I remember racing against Jack Sears! That would be in 1964 IIRC when one race of the Championship was run at Croft Circuit near Northallerton. I was racing my Mini which competed in the under 1000cc class and had the 998cc motor, with various mods done to it. But since I had to drive it to the race and back, it could not be made impossible to drive except on a track as some cars were! As for stuff like roll bars I cannot recall anyone having them! Racing "against" Sears in that Galaxy is perhaps a bit of a liberty. I saw him at the start and then never again! But at least I did not get lapped! I raced that Mini for a couple of seasons, then had a Lotus Cortina. But even then winning racing was a rich man's game and us "club" racers did very little winning against them!

Great story, man. I love history of all kinds (including racing), and the best history comes from the stories of people who were there. I`d love to hear any racing stories you might want to share.

What is it about the BTCC that captures the imagination? As an American, I have plenty of homegrown races and Championships to follow, yet I have to admit that the BTCC is possibly my favorite to watch.

Shannen T never mind that, V8 supercars and Improved Production is something I check up on on KZfaq. I used to watch F1 near the turn of the century but haven’t cared about it one bit in the last 10-15 years. V8 supercars, however, is something that even the grumpy old dogs of racing that hardly ever compliment anything, watch and praise.

I really enjoyed watching this video. The BTCC does get much air time here in the states. One minor glitch- as varied as Frank Gardner's racing career was, he did not race in Formula One. He was the Rothman's European Formula 5000 Champion in 1971. Formula 5000 was similar to F-1 in that it was a single-seater race car, but with a 5 liter stock-block derived engine instead of F-1's pure racing engine.

Love Tom Walkinshaw's approach to the rules. You look at them twice. First to see what you can't do, then a 2nd time to figure out the gray areas to exploit. Brilliant mind for racing, very much missed today.

I really enjoyed parts one, two and three. Thanks for sharing. All the people who say they can't find parts two and three, all you need to do is click on badwolfmultimedia and subscribe to the channel. once you bring up the chanel, just click video and scroll down and you will have to wait for the page to load more when you are at the bottom of the page and you will find it after the third or fourth add of 2 rows of video. I'm only a beginner on you tube and I found it , so if I can anyone can.Cheers from Australia

To this day the name Gordon Spice is still talked about in the Caribbean especially in Guyana where the British drivers came when their BTTC seasons were over to race in the hot Caribbean sunshine. Other top UK drivers racing under the Team SpeedBird, banner such as Alec Poole, Gabrielle Konig, Richard Longman, David Wizard, Dave Broodie and a few others are all fondly remembered by Caribbean Motor Racing fans. The owner of F1 team Jordon, Eddie Jordon raced here as well. Jordon at a race meet still on crutches after an accident in the UK was lifted into a go-kart and went on to win that race against our best karters.

I had no idea motorsport had such a following in the Caribbean! Very cool! The first time I heard the name Gordon Spice was in 1990 in a game called 'Fast Lane! The Spice Engineering Challenge' which I had on my Atari ST. I had no idea who he was at the time though!

Watching BTCC & the V8 Supercars in 🇦🇺 during the 90’s, grew my love for Motorsport including the PlayStation game by Codemasters. After the 21st century started, the BTCC lost their epic racing edge even team 888 moved to Australia cause what the great Barry Sheene always said “V8 Supercars is the best Touring Car Championship in the World”. Trust me, You would know this if you’re trackside in person next to a 650hp machine screaming pass in close range less than 50 meters away on a street circuit compared to the racetracks in the BTCC.
