So fun to see more people discovering and affirming just how great this little camera is. I’ve used this on video shoots around the world now and it’s been a true champ handheld, gimbal, and especially undercover. The question I would have for you is what profiles do you set up to for photo? Video wise the inclusion of LUT capability without baking it has been exceptional, but photo wise I just can’t seem to find myself quite happy yet. Otherwise thank you for taking us along through all that!

Thanks for the comment and watching. For me I look at Sony images as a base and then edit from there. I find the colors are a lot more neutral so it’s easier to edit the way you want to

You're not late to the game! Everyone else is late to the game! The a7cii is such an underrated camera, and the video quality is amazing considering the price. And the best part is Sony found a way to avoid overheating without an internal fan (which would make it larger). I love the direction of hybrid cameras doing really good at both photo and video rather than having two separate systems for photo and video.

I'm loving my A7Cii for it's size and surprisingly good colors. Pairs fantastic with APS-C lenses as well, especially for video.

I have the A7CR & CII after getting the 300 GM. That lens has been glued on the A7CR but I do need 2 card slots when I shoot for someone to keep copies and give. So I’m looking at the A9III to fill that void. That will be a great system. The Sony is great for compactness and the fact the 300 GM was cheaper and lighter than the RF 100-300. i can fit the 300 GM and the A7CR in a sling bag. and that 70-200 f4 macro II is very small and compact.

Bought it 2 weeks ago and I LOVE IT!!!! Got the SmallRig cage though to get a better more substantial grip with bigger lenses. 10 bit 422 S-Cinetone yay !!!!!

I got the small rig base plate and a thumb grip for mine and it made a world of difference. Both can be picked up on Amazon for less than half of the Sony grip.

@btonelli Also really enjoy using the Sigma I-Series primes with this body. Using the aperture rings almost feels like an old SLR.

I tried this camera for multiple times and coupled it with my trusty ol' A7RIII. For me, it's soooo good in the hands, also with all customizable dials it is enough for me. Just like you Bobby, it is so compact yet the color is so wonderful even compared to A7IV. It'a kinda funny since this camera has the same sensor with A7IV but for me, i like this one better compared with A7IV. It resonates the same way in terms of color reproduction with A7RIII, heck it even better than my A7RIII. Hoping i can buy this one soon.

Yes the colors are wonderful coming out of it. Sony has been improving the colors since the A7RV and we see that bleed into the A7CII.

Sony tweaked the colors a bit, but more importantly the "AI" chip has far better AWB recognition that translates to far better colors - esp. skin tones.

4k120 has its own shooting bank on my Z8. I do a lot of concert photography and for video reels the bands loving having speed ramps and slo mo.

Hi Bobby, coincidentally I bought the silver/black version late last year and it’s a joy to use. Very pleasantly surprised at its capabilities. I use it now as my go to street camera set up with small primes I have and owned over the years including old voightlanders.

Just a correction - A7C II doesn't have full mechanical shutter but EFCS, it's compromise for the small body

I shoot mostly portrait photography with lots of bokeh in China with a Sony A7R 1. Would my bokeh/background blur get ruined if I upgrade to the Sony A7C II ?

The a7c ii is a beast in a small package, I shoot all my youtube content on it these days (paired with the Sony 20-70mm F4) . I do have some small complaints around its rolling shutter when I record fast moving objects but you cant have everything I guess 😅

It's a superb all in one camera and most people don't understand that the EVF is way better, than the old one even if the numbers are still the same. The optics and the panel are new. We have a lot of customers who are very surprised, how good this thing is in reallity. It's godd that you're not one of these youtubers who got it very early and try to push a video out to be one of the first. Most of them talked a lot of bs, as this cameras knows how to satisfy. There are really just two points that i find to be akward and that is the one card slot and the second on is the internal buffer. It's just to small. The camera is very fast, so you need one of the V90 cards to get this thing into burst shooting without slowing down after 15 images. When I had it here with me to test it and get into it, I used my normal Sandisk Extreme Pro V30 cards, that are even enough for a 42mpix camera, but the A7CII just gets fast as I slide in a Sony Tough card with 300mb/s write speed.

Agree on both parts. For me I always use V90 cards so I don’t have experience with slower cards these days, but for what I was photographing I had no issues. The EVF isn’t that bad at all like you said, just wish it was larger, but better than. It having one like the ZV-E1

I was waiting for this camera for years after seeing the first version, but I was having the Sony A7iii, the A7cII even though I would appreciate not having the 4K60 crop, at least is good to have the option to shoot 4K60 at all. The compactness is great, fits very well on my travel bag with the rest of the gear, glad I didn't have to sacrifice image quality.

Thanks for the video. I have this camera and the A7CR and take them along as a pair when i travel. Really like this 33 Mpixel sensor unless i really need more. Will also pair it with my A1 or A7RV when i need a backup and need to use larger lenses. The new G f/2.8 will be a great compliment. Take care.

I seriously considered this but went with the Nikon ZF , which with 35 voigtländer Apo is way more fun I feel . Also I often shoot outdoors in very bright light where the very small evf becomes a truly awful experience . If I was in Scotland maybe , but Singapore & the pacific,no way. I tried this with the 16-35 gm 2 & totally suprised how light it is. Still I not dead against it ,maybe a gen 3 version or 2 (a7cr).

Yes the Zf and this are very competitive. I see this more as a camera one who prefers video would take vs the Zf which also does good video but designed for photography more. Nikon’s only issue is lenses that pair with the Zf outside of the SE versions are quite big.

I did the opposite and went with the Sony a7cr over the Nikon zf - mainly for the more comfortable grip and access to the Sigma I series lenses. There were no autofocus lenses for z mount that I found appealing for the zf body. Also I got a discount on the a7cr that made it the same price as the zf. I often think whether the zf with the voigtlander APO would have been more fun but I really love the sigma lenses with autofocus and their superb build quality.

@@btonelli quite true, but the 24-70 & 14-30 f/4 aren’t too bad & I could accept the 24-120 & 70-180 . Sony does have quite a number of lighter lenses & more compact.

I don't think it has a fully mechanical shutter. I think it only has EFCS.

EFCS is usually what I use most of the time on cameras anyways. Helps with shutter shock and still fast read outs. Better than electronic only outside of the sports cameras and A1 from Sony

True. Another disadvantage I found : If you use EFCS (as the A7C series always do) with a contact-less adapted lens, it is possible to get a serious darkening of the top of the image if you shoot at very high shutter speeds. (This will appear on one side if you shoot in portrait mode.)

I had the ZV-E1 for a few months paired with my A7RV. I ended up selling it and replacing it with the A7Cii. This camera is a far better all around camera and look forward to using it on my trip to SE Asia later this year. Now, I'm just trying to figure out what lightweight / compact lens (zooms) to bring. Bobby - any suggestions? I'm thinking Sony 16-35 F4 or Tamron 17-28 & a few faster compact primes...

Why does this have a crop at 4k60 when the a6700 doesn't? Also, keep in mind this doesn't have a mechanical shutter. I'm trying to figure out my first camera for work. I own a business and need a good camera for product photography and good video for reviews I'd like to do. I am so confused about what to get.

No prob. Let me help out with some of the questions The a6700 is an APS-C sensor which is smaller than a full frame sensor. The Crop on the A7CII in 4k60 is slight but near the equivalent size as the a6700 so there won’t be that much of a difference. However in other video formats you will get to take advantage of the larger sensor on the A7CII While this doesn’t have a “mechanical” shutter it has what is called a electronic first curtain shutter which performs similar to a mechanical shutter minus a bit of internal camera shake a mechanical shutter will have in a camera. Overall the a7CII for the price and features is hard to beat right now.

I own it. Maybe the most important feature of that camera is its 33 mp sensor, the sweet spot between iso and resolution.

@@AMGAMGAMG1I shot 4K 30 for 1hr15 minutes before it stopped due to overheating. It was in a very hot church loft so normally it would last longer for sure. Very happy with this camera!!

Would the Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 lens be good for everyday use and take videos of people/ places/ scenery? I'm a beginner hobbies for photography and the a7cii will be my first big purchase camera and I want to edit the videos to post on social media!

Great vid. How bad is the colour casting if using adapted m lenses? Basically my voigtlander 15mm on my sigma fp is causing edges to be purple, and it would be interesting if this camera dealt with it the same way as the Leica sl and Nikon cameras do (with a thinner sensor stack)

I didnt adapt any lenses to this so hard to say. I would say through the colors are more neutral than other Sony Cameras. Adapting lenses is tricky because a crappy adapter can really screw things up.

As I’m looking at shooting for real estate and need low light performance since the ac7ii crops in 4k60 which is how I shoot real estate for slow mo, would that have the same low light performance as a apc crop sensor camera? Say the fx30 in 4k60 which doesn’t crop in ontop of its apc sensor. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense 😅

yes it will be similar if not better on the A7CII. If you are worries about low light performance best to get a faster aperture lens

I wonder if A7CR would be a better alternative as a universal travel camera. What would be the downsides apart from price? (I use a9 for telephoto and a6600 for macro and underwater)

Honestly it’s probably the video features that the A7CII has vs the A7CR which would be the bigger differences and the extra grip which comes with the A7CR over the A7CII which you need to purchase separately

I went with the A7CII primarily for the sensor performance and less burden when it comes to file sizes. From all the testing I've seen the A7IV sensor has a larger acceptable iso range than the R cameras. The video features are also notably different. Price performace ratio the A7CII wins out, but if you need that 60mp go with the R.

maybe it will sounds stupid but when I'm filming with this ND filter on camera and wanna switch to photo mode do I have to take the filter off? Or can I just magically "turn it off"?

There is no ND filter in the camera. I attached one to the lens. You can remove it if you want

I can’t comment on what’s not out vs what is. If you need a camera asap and this fits your needs go for it. If you want to wait a bit longer if a Z6III is in fact coming then can do that too
