This music video is trippy on purpose 🤣 and full of references And yeah the song is the most wholesome clapback ever. Not only did they turn their hate into words of self-affirmation, they get tens of thousands of people to shout out "you can't stop me loving myself" at concerts. So it's not enough to make their own statement, they have to go and make the rest of us love ourselves too 💜 Idol is a hype song that goes surprisingly deep when you dig in. 😂

BTS has received hate from quite a few quarters. The shark represents their haters, but as you see BTS dances without concern because they are in what resembles a shark cage. A closer look, you see it actually is a Korean traditional structure. One of the beefs antis were making about BTS was that they were too global and had lost their "Koreaness". So, throughout the music video BTS flaunts images recognizable to a Korean with almost random abundance. But as they would have it, BTS opens and closes the video with a globe which is repositioned at the end to show they essentially have a global presence and are very Korean at the same time. So yes this track is a clapback, but it also has a remarkable number of images each with meaning.

Imagine a stadium of 60,000 screaming this at the top of their lungs…! If you look at BTS with an open heart, it’s hard to imagine that they have received a lot of hate - but unfortunately they have. 2:59 Yep, sod off is exactly what you're hearing. Every artist receives some hate, but the leave of antis, out right sabotage, backlash, and xenophobia/racism that BTS has been subject to, even before they debuted in 2013, has been intense. Their story is rags to riches (literally), underdogs. DKDKTV has a great explain video for some of the cultural references/visuals in this MV...BUT for South Korean cultural reference there is something called Idol music (which the world calls K-Pop), which is that full package music/visuals/choero/fashion offering which BTS is a part of, but it's dismissed/looked down on even in SK, sort of like "bubblegum pop". BUT BTS has always had creative input and the writing of their songs, 2 of their rappers started out in the underground hiphop scene (RM had a name for himself and Suga was even selling songs/getting ripped off in his hometown)...so while they were "Idols" and looked down on and made fun of and completely disrespected by former "friends" in the scene, etc they were also looked down on in the Idol industry for being from a small "nobody" label. Another cultural consideration, in SK where you come from/who you're connected to is still very important and will dictate how much consideration and respect people will afford you (think of the mindset of the aristocracy 200 years ago) - so BTS actually challenging and winning against teams from the Big 3 labels really challenged that mindset from fans of those other labels and pissed them off. They had to go to court to prove they didn't buy their own albums back illegally, they've been accused of plagiarism, misogyny complaints, had calls to the Blue House (White House equivalent) to have the SK president order to disband them...all sorts of over the top things like this.

Yes, BTS have faced many hardships on their journey. They have been ridiculed and attacked for countless reasons; for being from a small company, wearing makeup, for having "impossible" album sales so they must have cheated, making fun of other artists (a miss-understanding) , J-Hope for being untalented and ugly, and even one of them announcing the death of his beloved grandmother on stage. Internationally they faced racism, xenophobia and attacks, even comparing them to covid 19 ( a virus). In the MV you see RM with several cartoon faces, that's because he got made fun of for using cute instagram filters. Despite all the hate they persevered and Army continues to stand behind them protecting them at all costs. 💜

Just one word before I watch this reaction.Whenever you speak in your videos you are almost not audible!! The Mv's you watch I hear well but the difference between you and the video you react to is huge!! I'm at 100% of my volume in a quiet place and still have difficulties to hear some words! But I like your reactions. It's like me in the beginning. I had difficulties to get a grip on all the meanings 😅 But as you go on and you get to know more about them, their inspiration etc, it's getting much more easy! And they often explain the meaning , the inspiration behind their songs! 🤗
