What an amazing and mature conversation about human behaviour. My mother language is not English and I grew up listening English music that I did not even understand. Now that I understand English and my family too they judge my love for BTS and their music in Korean. I am like... are you kidding me. Prejudices and privileges of some made this world a dark place to live. 💜💪! Dynamite deserved that GRAMMY, period.

So I just discovered BTS a year ago, when I was with my Mom in the hospital 4-5 months before she passed away. They became my escape during that time and I have fallen down the rabbit hole with no signs of reaching the bottom... I turned 40 last year and so much of their music has such a 90's vibe and that is what I grew up on and I love. And I'm extremely eclectic, so the fact that they are into so many different genres is highly appealing to me. They're talented, humble, chaotic, caring, and love ARMY.... What is not to like!? Like Suga said, you find us when you need us, and I needed them. 💜

We as armies know that BTS should win the Grammy but we also know that they are not welcomed in it. They are not going to win because other American Artists are overshadowed by BTS. Most probably they also don't want Armies to be present in the event. We saw at the AMA or Billboard Award show wherein we, Armies supported BTS throughout the award shows, and some Artists don't like or appreciate it. Too bad! They have also their own fans, where are they to support them. It's not BTS or Armies problem, right? Anyways, we as Armies will just love and support BTS, and who knows, this time BTS might win something at the Grammy.

Pop artists typically say that they want to be “unique” rather than be the best. But Jimin truly is one of a kind - it is impossible to forget him after seeing him and hearing him sing. The dancing of K-pop boy groups is usually a fusion of hip-hop and street dance. Jimin, however, adds the flexibility inherent in modern dance. Jimin’s incredible vocal range, which is rare even among female vocalists, is a weapon that enriches BTS’ songs. In addition, Jimin’s bold emotional expression, no matter what type of song he is singing, has played a big part in the evolution of BTS, whose songs originally centered on powerful hip-hop. Over time, BTS have expanded the focus of their lyrics, going from commenting on social issues to considering youth, love, existence itself and the hopefulness and harmony that can be arrived at through a positive daily outlook. Jimin's beautiful vocals, his voice is so captivating and colorful. The feeling of nostalgia and warmth that Jimin transmits with his voice and interpretation

Y’all talking about the power of pop honestly really just helped me become more okay with BTS shift towards pop music. Not going to lie…I judge pop music a bit too. It’s not what I prefer to listen too. But I love BTS and support whatever they do, but it can be hard when they’ve mostly been releasing pop singles these past two years. I trust them but didn’t really get it. Y’all helped me appreciate one, why they’ve been doing that (which makes so much sense during a pandemic) and two, why they are probably so okay with doing that…because they don’t stigmatize pop

I think you should take the part where you and Tetris talked about the differences between sports fans and BTS fans and write an article for the LA TIMES. I think I read the only difference is that sports fans have the component of domestic & social violence, where Pop Fans don't. I think it's an extremely interesting topic and you should write and article. I'm adding on to my post, after the article, write a book. That's right, You and Tetris WRITE A BOOK about BTS ~ Gender Contamination.
@flyushkifly
@flyushkifly 2 жыл бұрын
If you could explain how you apply the concept of gender contamination to it, I'd be appreciative. I don't see it as men feeling proprietary and territorial over fandom behavior. I'm stuck on the pov that it's men being threatened by women and the power they have to set trends, tastes and standards. So they create a double standard and get away with it because of society's ingrained misogyny and gender stereotypes that women should be quiet, demure, and only attracted to one masculine type. Can you help me out fitting the two together? mah brain hurtz

I haven't stanned a group since *NSYNC and Britney until BTS also! I like pop kpop almost every genre of music. I'm a story driven person so anything like that that I enjoy but not. Involved. I was just a regular grown up fighting for my life in this cold world actually super into kdrama on and off (not realizing so many were idols or were) hahaha. But after the pandemic I started paying attention from Rowoon (SF9) to JUNHO(Got7) then the algorithm goes to work and somehow I found a clip of Jin and RM talking about happiness and dowwwwwn the rabbit hole and its given me back something I lost a long time ago and BTS. I'm in love with those guys and everything they have or had going on *whoosh*. Yeah. Thank you lol

I call it my secret life. I'm 57 yrs old and my daughter ran across Shinhwa in 2015 on You Tube. Then the fan world started. My 3 closest friends have no idea that I listen to KPop. I have actually reduced listening to Western music by about 95%. Listening to my high school 80's music feels like I'm stuck in the glory days. Kpop is predominantly guy groups and female groups. My opinion, and everyone has one, western music relies on soft-porn. They have little creativity (don't dance or have interesting lyrics / productions / storylines) they rely on the "sex sells" model. They keep listeners in a perpetual state of "excitement". BTS's interview question that turns my stomach is - "What's your favorite food when in the states?" Seriously?! How insulting. I would ask if they have ever been surprised by a B Side song that became successful? How often do they use studio musicians? Do they realize how using orchestral instruments bring wider culture to fans that are used to a couple guitars, drums, and maybe keyboards and synthesizers? ON used a marching band theme and gospel singers for backup. What Western group offers that? I am so thankful for these groups that have broadened my musical horizon: BTS, NCT, Seventeen, Stray Kids, and all individual projects from each group. Concerts we've attended: 2 BTS, 1 NCT, 1 Got 7, 1 Seventeen and 1 Stray Kids. I can't wait for concert season to come back!

What an amazing conversation! It was interesting to hear Tetris' opinion on why the Grammys are so hesitant to award BTS. His point was very logical but I believe that there is an active attempt to keep BTS from getting even more popular because the West doesn't have much to gain from their success. If they were afraid of being seen as pandering, they wouldn't shamelessly milk BTS' popularity for ratings (wasn't it unusual to let an artist, whose sole nomination category was not even televised, perform at the end of the show? BTS' contribution and the acknowledgment they got as a result did not match) Anyways it's always great to hear an army origin story and I'm glad we got to know Tetris', he seems really cool Brooke, you're creating amazing content, please keep spoiling us! Thank you 💜

It's amazing how much Kpop has evolved in the US in the last few years. So happy for the recognition of all these talented artists. Even with this, I think the American music industry has purposely pushed Kpop aside and not give them exposure because they were scared how Kpop can the over. They knew that once the Western industry would experience this new genre that it will take over!! Coming from a hard Kpop stan, been there since the beginning... can't remember but proud to say hard stan Kpop music since 20-25 yrs....

Thank you for this. BTS was and still is being disrespected for years!!! I truly respect BTS for not giving up!!! Due to Them more Asian musicians are getting a chance. They literally opened the door! What is sad that BTS deserved to win a Grammy for their album MOTS7 and BE. Also for the best video film for the song ON/Black Swan art film. Also the best dance performance for ON and Black Swan. Life Goes On is also really underestamated! Yes, the Western (industry) world is truly treated with disrespect and looked down up on. I haven't watched The Grammy's for years because, it is really all aranged beforehand. I watched it last year because, of BTS. I truly hoped that they would have least win with DYNAMITE. That song and also RM Suga JHope Jin Jungkook V Jimin everytime different performances made so many people happy during COVID19. I liked Korean music since Seo Taiji and Boys. Then after that I liked BTS. I like all Seven Members equaly each for their own unique personality/talent. With one side note. I do respect Jimin for having the shortest training time from all of them. I've seen Them live just like you did but, in my country The Netherlands. In my country they are also not treating BTS with respect! I also like Nightwish a Finish Symphonic Metal band. They are so good!! I have seen Them live too. I really don't understand that they never gotten nominated or won.... My wish for each member of BTS and for Them together is; to Stay Healthy and that Their Friendship will last and that Their dreams will come true. They have always been under so much pressure and still are. Take care and warm greetings from The Netherlands 👍💜🍀💜🍀🤘🇳🇱🌷🤗

Wow great episode! I’m really enjoying this. PTD was really the best, and army are the best crowd honestly. I could talk to people and it was all very comfortable and easy. I really really like this tremendously, you were both so cute and Brooke you’re indeed a great conversationalist. You fill me with envy 😂

I remember that video that got Tetris “cancelled” and just thinking “oh no, my guy! They gonna eat you. “ just because I knew enough to understand what you were trying to say but also fully aware of how some were going to take it. I was so happy when you didn’t let it phase you and kept loving what you love

Wow I never knew that Tetris was an actual genuine fan, now all the shoutouts on billboard videos make more sense and seem even more genuine! Thanks for always keeping Army’s updated on the boys!! This was such a fun interview to listen to and I’m so happy you got to meet Jimin and the other members!! Looking forward to your future work!💜

Thank you for saying that BTS opens a lot of doors for future artists. Some fandoms still think differently which is a shame. BTS still doesn't get the respect that it should. From Western artists to their own KPOP industries.
