I took these various meanings and expressed it into the song of how I want to present myself to the world in many different ways.” The song represents how ARMY sees Jimin in many different personas. These range from cute and boyish, to masculine and sexy. He can move through many different personas effortlessly and the song basically asks the listener to see him in any way they like and he will be that for them. Jimin’s duality, his ability to change quickly from sweet to sexy, is a unique quality. He was the perfect choice to sing this song. Jimin’s duality is one of the things that fascinates me most about him, he often has me shaking my head in disbelief at how he does this.

While it sounds like he will grant you your wishes (genie, Aladdin) he actually holds the power, cos in the end you see the world thru the lenses he provides (overlays your heart)… please remember this is from MOTS:7 album, which is about Mapping the human soul in Jungian terms: Persona, Shadow and Ego. Very complex! Do not underestimate the concepts they explore in this album, with each track focusing on one aspect in turn.

The original choreo did have Jimin changing into the colored suit live. Rehearsal videos show him wearing a different tear away suit but it was tricky and the first outfit was really heavy according to Jimin. So they changed it to be recorded so it’s two takes.

The song actually is about Jimin saying that he can and will be whoever we (ARMY) want him to be. This song is kind of the opposite to his song, "Lie". That song was him talking about how unhappy he was because he was living a lie, trying to be the person that ARMY saw him as. Now, however, he has grown and matured and understands that the images that people have of him in their minds are not changing who he really is. They're filters, laid over the top of the real Jimin but Jimin is still himself underneath them. Jimin actually thanked ARMY after this song came out because he had so many ARMYs tell him that we didn't want or need to pick a filter, because we love him as he is, without any filter. Jimin didn't write this song but it was written specifically for him and he told the writers what he wanted the theme of the song to be.

There is a backstage footage that shows Jimin training this clothes exchange and some members cheering. It was really live. He was wearing the suit underneath the first white shirt and black pants.

I think of this song meaning in the context of Map of the Soul 7 which is all about the members struggling with their identity in some way. I think Jimin is kind of saying he wants to be the person his fans want him to be even though that might not be healthy as he might be changing himself into something he is not. I've been waiting for this. DJ, SO HOW WAS IT? So hot, right? The clothes change was the biggest mystery of Kpop history because he performed it on online concert, so people thought it was live like every other performance. The mystery was solved last year when BTS released their yearly memories DVD, Jimin said it was recorded (BTS memories of 2020 if I was not mistaken)

The lyrics are more towards the filters you apply these days on your videos and pictures on insta and other social media apps and as an idol he is saying that army can apply those filters on him too and be in their hearts forever

Love this song and performance. This was Day 1 of BTS Map of the Soul (MOTS) online concert (Due to Covid their MOTS tour was cancelled.) Watch the behind the scenes dance practice and the live taping ( if only for JK and j-hope reaction to that sexy plié LOL ). Jimin tried to do it in one take but his dancing was constrained due to the extra layer of clothing so it is a cut and prerecorded for the online concert.

BTS started including solo songs for each member in the Wings Album and then continued doing solos in the Love Yourself album. The solos are only performed in concert (except one time when they were performed on an award show) Filter is Jimin's solo song for The Map of the Soul 7 Album which was released prior to the pandemic. This song would have been performed for the MOTS7 concert but the tour was cancelled. As a result, this song was only performed on the MOT7 Online concert. There is no music video for this song. It was sung live but prerecorded without an audience. The cheering you hear are the fans who watched online but were displayed on monitors. If you watch the behind the scenes of the MOTS concert, Jimin was practicing to do the quick change on stage but it was difficult for him to do. So in the end it was filmed with a quick cut. There are two versions of this performance for each night of the online concert. Since this song came from the MOT7 album the songs tie in to the psychoanalytical teachings of Carl Jung and his theories of persona, ego & shadow. I think the song Filter basically means that Jimin can be whatever you want/need him to be. These filters change and people see him how they want to. But also I think that it also means that Jimin's persona is who he wants you see.

When you are too immersed in BTS' deep lyricism that you start questioning every song by them 😂. I think Filter is a happy song and when Jimin says "pick your filter" or "paint me the way you want" he's basically flirting and trying to persuade the girl of his love and that's why I believe when he says "I can be your Genie, how about Aladdin" he means that he is everything she can ask for, full of surprises, and can grant her wishes come true.

This is from Map of the Soul 7 album which had tracks that were a look deeper into what they feel as artists going from Carl Jung’s concept of the persona to the shadow to the ego. Filter was on the tracklist between shadow and ego. So Jimin talking about being whoever army wants him to be and becoming a filter really felt like he was talking about his life as an idol. He puts on different costumes, performances, and personas for Army to entertain us and make us happy. Not quite a shadow, but not quite ego either, Filter is about how he as a person that’s an idol has had to grow into being okay with making people around him happy by changing himself.

The performance was pre recorded and was shown on online concert couse he tried the performance with double clothe on to quickly change but it wasn't possible couse the clothes became too heavy and it was hard to do the dance moves, it wouldn't look as good so they decided to record it . There is little glitch on the video too if you pay attention but he was singing live of course and it was stunning. People were going crazy after his performance. Plz watch jk performance as well . Well for this performance the costume change was edited bcoz it was online & they wanted it to be perfect but it was originally supposed to be one take & Jimin actually practiced for it & in behind the scenes series they do show him actually doing it, but the clothing was more baggy & heavy which was exhausting him, that's why in the final performance it was changed

This was Day 1 of the Map of the Soul ON:E online concert (Oct 10th, 2020). There were multiple camera views which is why you sometimes see another camera man in the shot. They piped in audience sound and there were also live streamers chosen by lottery that were on LCD screens for the guys to see. There is another video for Day 2 you may also want to check out. :)

Jimin kept trying to do it one shot but during rehearsals it was taking too long for the change without affecting his voice and timing so they decided for the online concert to do this one as a video. ARMY tried for months to figure out how he changed so quickly, there were videos explaining it in multiple ways ... then they came out with the real way, lol. Personally I hope that we get the live version when they go on tour next ... with the change figured out.

It’s confusing because we often see jimin as the target of our view, it’s hard to see him as the lenses/filter we use to look at other things.

His stage presence and carisma cannot be denied. He dances so effortlessly and his vocal range is amazing. This has only been performed live twice for the online concerts last year. The song is about how „fans“ we call them mantis ( manager antis) who kind of have this ideology of having a power on ihm and his life and wants him to be and act a certain way for them to like him. They think he depend on them because they support him and also they know what is better for him more than anyone. So he puts on a filter to be that person who they think is perfect. In the end, I think no one will ever truly know what exactly filter means to Jimin, but I think, based on Jimin's interview and just understanding how Jimin presents himself as a performer and artist, I think it's easy to interpret the song as Jimin flexing his versatility.
