My favorite thing about this is the intro. The words on the screen were spoilers for the Love Yourself series. Singularity, Fake Love, Epiphany, etc none of that had been released yet! And we had no idea at the time that they were dropping hints lol. Fun to look back on it in hindsight. I also love this 2017 performance because late 2017 is when I got into BTS so this was my first MMA I saw live. But I think the 2017 MAMA performance was better. Can’t wait til you guys get to that one.

The Tannies sang this song even during the pandemic, to give hope and symbolize that spring will come after a long winter. 💜 They performed Spring Day at the KZfaq Graduation 2020 too, and several other times that year. This song will always hold a special place in my heart.

Regarding Spring Day, the song is about missing someone but the MV is about the Sewol Ferry tragedy that happened in 2014. It’s best to watch the explanation of the MV after watching the video. Spring Day has the biggest meaning a "kpop" song ever had. Every time I hear it my eyes just get teary and I always have those voices of the kids in my head that cried for the help of their parents but died in a tragedy. I hope that the families have their peace now and move forward even if it's hard. I know how hard it is to lose someone close to you.

It’s not morbid. Yes it has to do with death/tragedy but it’s with heartfelt respect and honor, especially since they couldn’t even talk about what the song meant, but everyone knew. It’s a very precious song and has been charting for 5 consecutive YEARS, which goes to show you how much it means to people.

It was impossible for them to outright expose the reason for Spring Day since at the time the government was actively blacklisting artists that were speaking about the Sewol Ferry Tragedy so by having an underwater scene it allowed them to relate back to theme without putting it out there in words and deeds. Please don't forget about MAMA performances for those years as well.

since you guys mentioned the stage a whole lot, the venue is actually very huge! i can say from experience (i was able to attend MMA 2017 and Wings Final concerts at this venue). it is the Gocheok Sky Dome. MMA 2016-2019 were all held at this venue, with the stage design changing from year to year. MMA 2020 was held online only and BTS did not to any award shows in 2021 due to quarantine from the PTD concerts in LA.

It's a hints that BTS gave for us to unlock each time they do performance or something. Army would try and crack up the hidden secrets that gaven by connecting each dots they show us, like their Next song theme, next album title, BTS Universe, or everything that related to their future project's. If you notice a HUGE word's that pop up, like TEAR, SINGULARITY, ANSWER, EPIPHANY. It's connected to TEAR ALBUM That release in 2019 and more, you guys already hear few songs of it. It's even a album that you got from army! 😂 Imagine how 2017 army try to crack their hints This is why army would focus on everything and watch it on loop just to observe a little things that people wouldn't never think before. the intro and text that they showed on the screen (although someone at melon misspelt stuff), was actually a tease to upcoming album themes that they had yet to release yet. That is how they get ARMY to start theorizing about the next comebacks.

Fun Fact: BTS always give out hints somewhere in their performances what their next album would be in their awards shows. This performance was on 2017 and you notice all the words (Singularity, Fake Love, Answer, Epiphany...) poping out at the beginning of their performance. Those were all the songs in their 2018 album which came out much after this show. Every year Armys are guessing where they hid about the next album's theme would be.

My favorite song in the world! I cried buckets when I saw the story behind Spring Day. It just shows you what we struggle as humans in our world...

The water imagery during the performance for Spring Day as well as the music video are consistent as the song alludes to a tragedy in recent South Korean history-the April 2014 sinking of the Sewol ferry. So it's a moving song about tragedy, loss and longing.

The background screens on Spring Day are actually really courageous. It was an era of political blacklisting and suppression of free and artistic speech, and talking about the Sewol Ferry Disaster was also being suppressed. Being very in-your-face like that at a major award show still early in their careers was very bold move. It was both in memoriam and a political statement.

You're right - it gets bigger and better. MMA 20219 will blow your minds. As an aside: The 2019 performance AT AN AWARDS SHOW! is like 35 minutes long, which explains why RM talked about making the most of their 47 seconds performing with Nas X on the Grammys with resignation.

Melon stages are usually this big. They do have it in the same place every year. The "stages" off to the side is actually where all the celebs are sitting.

The intro song was the soundtrack for their Highlight Reels (the Bangtan Universe video connecting the Love Yourself album series), and later been sampled for Outro: Tear. Maybe that's why you recognized it. :D

Spring day is called the (queen). It's a National song which is still on the charts even to this day ever since it was released.. it's depicts the entire tragedy that happened and anything related to the truth behind that incident were blocked due to political and other pressures. One thing about Korean award shows is that they are sometimes held in huge stadiums with tens of thousands of fans attending. The idols are usually seated on stage or in an orchestra pit where they can watch each others performances. The fact you can hear the fanchants shows how big the ARMY was getting because these shows had fans of other idol groups, not just BTS. Personally, I think the 2016 and 2017 MAMA performances were better than the MMA ones because they were still filming a lot of the crowd instead of the actual performance. It was in 2018 and 2019 that the MMA performances became epic. For award stages, the intros are big productions, and BTS would have bigger and more elaborate ones every year. There were so many issues with the stage production for this MMA as the lighting was too dark to actually see that dance break in the beginning and then the misspelled words displayed on stage. ARMYs theorized that someone was trying to sabotage BTS' performance as they were getting more popular but also haters within the industry. BTS actually released a dance practice of this intro as it wasn't broadcast properly to see the entire choreography. BTS has done a few videos of dance breaks from shows to highlight the choreography because it didn't turn out as they wanted. There is one dance intro where Jimin had to jump over a group of dancers and fell on the landing. He quickly got up, and they finished the performance, but BTS released a dance practice of it afterwards for the fans. There was another performance where BTS were wearing white Navy uniforms that the live stage was not what they wanted, so they filmed a full-on video that showed the choreo from 3 different angles. BTS are perfectionists, and they are often critical of their performances. Always thinking they should have done better for ARMYs. It's the amount of hard work and the fact they won't settle for a mediocre performance that BTS are as good and popular as they are. It took them almost 10 years of dance practices and training to get to where they are today.

When you see the cuts in the middle, there's no other artist coming out... In these award shows the artist that is performing does the whole act/performance in that section... So there were probably some ads in there for them to have a chance to change outfits 🤗 As BTS popularity grew they were moved little by little to be the last performance and were given more screen time too, you probably noticed that in the following years they did more songs, that's why they say they leave the best till the end 😉

You just made me realize the under water world background during Spring Day and my heart stopped for a second. I never saw it like that. And it was never officially confirmed from BTS that they paid tribute to those kids who died but i guess that’s the whole point of it. If they never confirm it it’s not official and no one can say anything to them about it. The government wouldn’t have liked idols to mention that incident. I don’t think people understand how bold it is to perform Spring Day with a background like that. I’m surprised that MMA let them. And after two years of being a fan , rewatching this with you guys , I’m again surprised and moved speechless by those boys.
