I love how you noticed right away that they were honoring there own Korean culture. So many reactors think its a different cultures stuff they took. Suga loves to use traditional Korean music as beats and references korean history in his lyrics. Such as Haegeum and Daewitcha. This Idol performance came at the end of a 30min performance BTS was doing for a Korean award show. They go all out for award show performances.

Many Army will tell you to react to MMA2019 but I recommend you watch a bit more of BTS, their vids, their live performances so to appreciate better what an absolute masterpiece that live MMA2019 is.

The 3 dancers at the beginning in order are J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. This is actually only part of their performance. They performed Fake Love and Airplane Pt. 2 (Airplane Pt. 2 was pre-recorded to give them time to change clothes) before they performed Idol. Not sure if you've reacted to MMA 2019 yet but it's definitely a must. A 37 minute performance at an award show that took 3 months to prepare. One of the best award show performances I've seen in my life.

Correct as their ethos is the group. Solo work is part of their individual artist development and they also use it to point new people back to the group as a whole. They always introduce themselves as (insert artist name) of BTS.

I love how you mentioned them honoring their Korean culture, because this song was a clap back to the haters who said they had become too Americanized. BTS basically said, hold my beer. 🤣 And the lyrics are saying things like call me whatever you want cause I’m still going to love myself. The music video for Idol is a manic master class in how to say screw you to haters in several layers, lol. Every visual, every lyric, outfit choice, movement, etc -- all of it designed as a direct response to criticisms they've received. Be it personal attacks on members or the group itself. In addition to some blatant symbols that would be easy to pick up (for instance: Suga and j-hope's sweaters are in direct response to what people have made fun of them about) there are Korean idioms and symbols all throughout as well. There are explanation videos for it. In this performance (and many) they wear the traditional hanbok clothing to proudly display their Korean roots. They jammed as much cultural heritage as they could into it to show up all the people who said they were losing their Korean identity by making it big in the west.

When Suga made That mistake is was because he usually goes to the left but in this particular perform they changed places so he corrected himself

Just want to give a shout out to the dedication of BTS who gives 200% everytime they are on stage, looking at this dance routine of IDOL shows how much hand, arm and shoulder movements needed, and SUGA who had a bad left shoulder vehicle injury in his early debut years, had to dance vigorously for the so many years, sometimes we forgot how painful it must have been for him to endure such intense pain all these years, and these boys really deserve our love and support 💜💜💜

If you want to watch a concert performance of this, I highly recommend the Osaka concert. There is a whole medley that ends with Idol. It’s great either as the whole thing or just Idol. Just a trick for recognizing - chances are if there are solo dancers, it’s going to be J-Hope, Jimin, and JK. They’re the original dance line and often get a moment to shine during the award show performances (which this is). V has been added to the dance line more recently and rightly so.

This performance was important to them. They spent more than half a million of their own money. They were being critized at the time for being to Western. That they lost their heritage. So they proved all the hater wrong with this performance. Everything from the drums, fan dance, the dance that JK did, the traditional performers, even what they wore. Which are updated hanboks. They wanted to show how much they loved where they came from. And no one said a single word after this performance. This was MMA. They did another performance of IDOL, i believe, for another award show, and when they did, they shook the whole stage. I could be wrong but it may have been MAMA. And please check out their Anpanman. Its the performance that got lightsticks banned from award shows, that how many their were. Good luck.

These 7 normal boys are legends because of their talent and most importantly, their genuity and depth. They can do a range of genres and their songs' lyrism is exceptional, their older members like RM and Suga (August D) are like lyrics masters. The messages that they bring out in their songs is healing, inspiring and thought provoking. They have themes and trilogies in their discography - like The Most Beautiful Moments in Life (exploration of adulthood challenges or youth), the Love Yourself theme (about loving others, pain of love and self love), The Map of the Soul theme (exploring the topic of human psyche like persona, shadow, ego) ... the way they link all these themes is like going on a life journey with us using music and lyrics as a bridge to connect. Their music has helped many people overcome difficult times in life and inspire them to love themselves and speak themselves. BTS has in a way stepped up a level and developed into a stage of "helping others" in a way they could not have imagined. If you are interested to explore more, you can watch their songs and turn on the CC subtitles to have a feel of what their songs try to convey, its gonna stimulate your mind and senses :) .. there are so many songs to delve into i can't even choose which ones lol , but some great choices will be black swan, mic drop, idol, fake love, silver spoon, blood sweat & tears, piep piper, angpanman etc etc etc

First dancer is Jhope or Jung Hoseok (his real name) He is one of the main dancers and he is the dance leader. The second one is Jimin and yeah, you got his name right. He is also the main dancer with Jhope. The last one is Jungkook or JK, the lead dancer. So the intro to IDOL performance is just the dance line or the 3 Js.

It's been 3 years since I started a deep dive into BTS and I feel like I am still new. I watch and listen everyday and there is no end to the vastness of everything they have created from their music, to their performances and tv shows. They also are the best comedians. It's like I got on the "happiness" train and I can't quit smiling. I am 70 yrs old and BTS has inspired me to open my mind to looking at the world in a whole new way. Two rap performances that stand out to me are Outre Tear: live at Wembley with rap line RM, JHope and Suga. Its an emotional song that they wrote when they were thinking of almost disbanding. The other performance is also live called Cypher Medley 1, 2, 3 and 4 with Supreme Boi. The last Cypher is insane, the energy of the crowd is so uplifting and powerful. BTS videos are always good, but the energy they bring to their live performances is amazing. RM's "Joke" and Agust D's "Agust D" are also two videos that always blow people away. For the vocal line, I love House of Cards live. Take your time. After awhile, they will start to feel like family. My wish is that I live long enough to see them come back together and see them perform.

This is hands down my favorite awards show performance they have put on and that’s saying a lot, because they have done to many to count. You should seriously watch the whole performance….PHENOMENAL! Our guys know how to put on a show. They’re the number 1 global group for a reason.we can’t say enough words about them. They are the most humble down to earth group of guys and they love us army. There is Never any doubt about that. They all bring their own unique style to the group. They complete each other so well. Cant wait to continue to watch you fall down the BTS rabbit hole….its a very long journey lol

Their dance practices are not only long - about 13-15 hours a day but they also prepare and do all kinds of simulations such as, when shoe laces untie, if the mic drops, if shirt gets ripped, and a 1000 other possibilities that can happen on stage. Hence why their performance look perfect and flawless every single time.

Hi there - thanks for your interesting and observant comments on this. You are right that BTS ensures everyone has the centre stage at the appointed time, but it is less to do with 'fairness' that simple efficiency! It is about making the greatest possible impact with the resources you have. Remember that BTS started with almost NO resources, so this is a way of life. In addition, and to be honest, all Kpop is so competitive that everyone has to do this. Very few bands (only those from the most money heavy companies (and there are some) can afford to be over generous! Yes, BTS always were very Korean and proud of it. But leading up to this performance there had been a lot of criticism (which recurs quite often) of them being too westernised, and so this production was deliberately designed to celebrate Korean culture in a way that no one had ever done in such a setting. A lot of it seems rather alien to me, but I still love it, and I also think that a lot completely fits in to the ethos of wider Korean culture. If you actually look at specific elements and the way the performance uses - for example the costume elements and the colour - it all fits in beautifully and enhances. Errors! In fact BTS do make mistakes - actually not that infrequently - but their stage craft is phenomenal. There is a very funny moment in one show where Jimin starts trotting confidently off to the wrong corner, diverts himself to another wrong position and then has to sort himself out again. All that happens is that everyone laughs at him - including him. We also see them calling each other out on stage - and sharing it with ARMY, most of whom already know. They spend so many hours on stage and in practice every week that it is like breathing. Practice and learning is intense - one reason they have the precision is that they check everything - even down to the angles they are each holding their fingers. They are by no means all natural dancers, and some of them would not even call themselves any kind of dancers, have had to work incredibly hard indeed to learn every new routine, but over 13 or 14 years they deserve the title now! I enjoyed your enthusiasm for this - and I will add that BTS are more as a group than they are as the sum of their parts. They each add something different, and the full impact of this can never be matched by their work as solo performers. That's natural: their solo work is very deliberately different and is just as valuable, showing different elements of themselves which they had not yet shared as group members. I absolutely adore these new faces of the members, but I personally don't feel you can come close to appreciating those without the context of BTS history and performances..However, that's not a criticism: we all come to BTS by our own route and at our own time and pace. One criticism, though... but not angry with you about it. Please never ever talk about 'screaming like a girl' in response to BTS. ARMY have spent 14 years being vilified as immature teenage girls driven by hormones without benefit of braincell. It's a common reaction to feminine interests - and never one levied at (mostly male) sports fans, who not only scream and rant but are also violent. ARMY range from ages of 2 years to 95, are male and female, well-educated, articulate, generous and powerful. The constant drive on the part of commentators and the media to (frankly) dismiss us as hormonal teenagers is basically misogyny. It's also a device used by xenophobic media to try to diminish BTS - and other acts that Kpop fans love. There's ample evidence that western media both fail to understand K/C/Jpop, but also fear it. NOW - I don't for a moment think this applies to you, but please stop thinking of BTS fans as screaming kids - because we are not. I'm 69, I've seen more of all sorts of life than you have. I can be subtle, can whisper, can speak eloquently in a glance, but I also swear that I can scream, and will, when prompted. Talk about "screaming ARMYs", but we are not all adolescent girls - absolutely nothing wrong with them, but people only talk about "adolescent girls" in order to dismiss their passions. Don't do that - even if you think you are making common cause with them. They are stronger than you will ever know. That said, and hopefully you can understand the need to be clear about it, there is nothing to stop you letting rip in future 'like an ARMY' and lifting the lid off your space while you enjoy BTS' work both as a group and as soloists. I look forward to you continuing journey and learning!.

The song Idol is a clack back to the haters: those iwho says that Idols are just "manufactured product", those who criticized them for being "too americanized" when they blew up in the US.... Basically they answer they are proud of who they are, Idol, artists, Koreans, and successuful worldwilde while singing in korean. . Their Korean's root pride is obvious in this live performance, opening with rendition of traditional dances, wearing handbock. The Idol MV is also full of symbolism, but as non Korean, we can't fully understand without watching some explanation video (DKDKTV have made a good one on "Idol" )

Suga did mess up at the end, he was going to the spot he typically goes to in that part of the song, but because the platform was small they decided to just have him exchange spots with JK. BTS are funny when they make mistakes, they get right back into the groove when on stage, but then there is no end to making fun of themselves when they get off stage.

He hurt his shoulder when he was delivering pizza. A car ran into him or he hit the car (I can’t remember) so he can’t move as well as the other boys. He recently got surgery for his shoulder after so many years. He would have been excused from the mandatory military service.. he still went in anyways.

This edition of the Mama Awards was held in Japan. At that time BTS was accused of becoming too Westernized so they decided to do a performance with many traditional Korean elements.

You got it, their walking to the next stage is insane. Should watch Blue and Grey from Las Vegas PTD concert. Never seen anyone who can fill up and own a stage, catwalk, entrance, etc...like they can. In their 2022 Grammy Awards performance they took every bit of stage available to them and then used the ceiling and where the audience was sitting too! This one was such 🔥🔥

Actually the Korean music award shows travel to other Asian countries. This was in Hong Kong I believe. Believe you me the other fandoms are not cheering for BTS. They are mostly armies screaming and cheering. China and Japan love BTS but unfortunately the Chinese prohibited BTS because they were too popular with the Chinese citizens. They also included some of the Korean actors for the same reason.
