💜Thank you for all the comments! Lauren obviously did not mean anything bad by it and obviously we do see things through a western lens. I think she has seen the word chubby used many times before, and in America that would be seen very negatively. We have so much body shaming here, both men and women, that if you are called chubby, it can be very devastating. Unfortunately when seeing things through translations, in the moment, and without knowing everything, misinterpretation can happen. This is also why we actually read the comments to help us learn things. I greatly appreciate them. That being said, some people have corrected us in an educational manner. Some have said it in a manner that seems more like an attack. Please keep in mind these are REAL reactions. People complain all the time about how fake reactors are, but then people jump on people for giving real opinions. As ARMY (even baby ARMY) we know that BTS teaches love and acceptance. That also means that when faced with something we don’t agree with, we can choose to educate without attacking. Making someone feel dumb for being wrong, is not any better. The fat shaming mistake was made out of ignorance. Attacking someone for not know and belittling is made out of conscience choice and vitriol. And while we may not know everything about th, we know they do not stand for that. Thank you for continuing to educate us and open our eyes to cultural differences. It will continue to take more time to learn about all the cultural differences, which is why we do take so much time to watch behind the scenes and explanation videos as well. We truly did not mean to offend anyone, and hope that you could enjoy everything else in the video. We look forward to continuing the journey with you all!

It's okay, don't worry too much about offending. As a Korean-American, when I am in Korea, people in general will comment on your appearance a lot more than Westerners and they will straight up call you fat if you are. Westerners have gotten a lot more sensitive to body shaming in the past 10-20 years I would say.

As a Karmy, when they say chubby or steam bun, it’s really common compliment expression that someone is sooooo cute. That’s Korean common expressions we use to kids or someone is super cute. We Korean love that expression.

Thanks for clarifying that. Here in the U.K. we’d think saying a baby had chubby cheeks was cute but we’d never say that about an adult. It’s great to learn about different cultures. BTW when Koreans talk about, Mochi are they the same as Japanese Mochi?

There was no fat shaming, they just compared him to a steamed bun to say that he looks cute. Saying he got chubby wasn't in a negative way, it just seems that way to westerners

Here we have a case of cultural misinterpretation: Having round or chubby cheeks is a sign of luck and prosperity in Korea. That is why when the boys congratulate each other for their birthdays, they rub their hands on the birthday boy's cheeks. It is a symbol of luck, wishing someone luck and prosperity but also having it rub off on you. That is why they always say stuff like: You look like a steamed bun or you have chubby cheeks, it is not in a malicious way at all. Male handsomeness in Korea: while in Western culture a chiseled sharp face with outstanding cheekbones and a well definied chin is seen as super sexy, in Korea bread cheeks (round cheeks) is very much the thing, that and a sharply definied jawline. A lot of SE Asian men loose their 'baby fat' in their faces when they get older (usually from the time they get into their forties) and while these men are still considered handsome, they are not considered 'cute' anymore.

it’s really weird that the first connotation with “chubby” is that it’s bad = fat shaming. what is so bad about having chubby cheeks that it makes you assume it’s fat shaming? in korea having chubby cheeks is considered cute, it’s literally why jimin’s nickname is mochi/rice cake

When JK was looking for JK they were on a sort of scavenger hunt for an episode of Run. They were given several clues and had to search for the answer to the clues. One of the clues was "another JK". So, JK was looking for this other JK. Another clue was that the object was worth millions of won but couldn't be lifted or carried, I'm not sure which. That's why Jimin asked if J-Hope thought he could carry him and RM was saying that Jin was the thing that was worth millions. I think that was a two-part episode and they play a lot of fun games. It's in the 100's, though, so you have a long ways to go until you get there.

I just can´t get over your wife´s hair color, I usually do not care for this kind of yellow on anybody but she looks absolutely lovely ( I hope she doesn't´t mind because I am mentioning it second time already but its really great color on her) I am with Lauren btw - to describe someone as freshly steamed bun sounds super bizarre as a compliment to anybody past 1 year mark in my Western ears :-) She just said what she said because she put it trough filter of her own western understanding. Totally fine. How could she know ?? In this context when Jungkook said it I am not even sure he was pointing to Yoongi´s round face or to the fact that he is so pale and his complexion so incredibly dewy looking. Or is "a steamed bun" similar expression as "cute as a button" in the West ? Yoongi´s own mother said exactly the same about Yoongi once so I am not sure how native Koreans look at it - as a compliment of cuteness, or as a sign that you tease someone lovingly ? Which ever way it swings, lets just accept we all are culturally conditioned and tend to think little bit uniquely, look at world through different lens and process beauty through vast catalogue of belief imprints we just can´t help. To say his lips look like chicken gizzards ( when translated like that ) sounds super gross but can mean totally different thing for them , the same as "horse" description for Hobi some people used in the past as an offense and I was laughing because horse is one of the most gracious, elegant looking animals in my world. Its complicated. ( as a side note, Suga is renown for flawless pale complexion that is envied even by female Idols in SK, lol + plus his legs, lol)

Ok Im gonna put my two cents that no one asked but here I go: as a latina getting weight comments (even chubby cheeks) is seen in a negative way. Family use "you're too skinny" or "you're too fat" as an insult hidden in the form of a joke. For us, weight is a sensitive topic cause we're fat shamed left and right. So if I listen to a person telling another person they have "chubby cheeks" I take it the "fat shaming" way cause its the way I know, doesnt matter if its cultural for other people cause just as that's normal for them, it's not normal for me. I've been seeing the "omg you're so westernized" comment to WESTERN people SO much like its a horrible thing when bruh...we're from the western....OF COURE we're gonna think differently. So, we gotta be EXTRA open minded with other cultures but if we say even the tiniest thing we're shunned. EDUCATE. Just as we see different from them, they see different from us. It happens. The beauty of it all is teaching and learning.

Wow I’m really sadden to see how some people are quick to judge over one comment. In western culture what the boys were saying is taken differently. You have to remember these are just clips and you don’t get the full explanation or understanding of what is going all. I also believe she was saying that she likes the guys the way they are. She wasn’t being rude and I believe there is a less rude way of educating people then talking down to them for something they don’t understand. Hasn’t anyone hear misunderstood something while getting to know BTS. I know I’m not perfect and I have. There is a loving way of educating and a harmful way and I terribly sad to see some “Army” in the comments act this way.

Most of the comments are not being rude lol merely letting them know that these boys wouldn’t do something like that which I always give them that benefit of the doubt bc I know they’re not like that… especially jungkook… and I’m saying “most” of the comments bc I legit have been scrolling and have found zero mean comments or rude but seeing your comment I’m assuming there must be something I haven’t seen.. which is why I say most. There are assholes in every fandom and you’re not going to get them to agree with you this way .. which makes comments like this counterproductive. If someone is going to attack without broadening their knowledge in the moment… they’re making the same mistake that she is here….. and they’re not typically the type to be open to others opinions… it happens. We also know that these boys have been through so much in the media and social media and all of the insanely awful things being said about them ….. of course there will be some army who get defensive when someone accuses any of them of “fat shaming,” each other lol it’s a pretty heavy accusation to make when you know how they are together … and no one has their backs more than each other. I hope she actually addressed it herself since it was her comment that rubbed people the wrong way… and it’s his wife so his responses are always a bit passive aggressive which isn’t always okay either … but I hope she said something about it just to clear up the confusion in her own words .. bc clearly she isn’t trying to insult them… and it would be cool if she addressed it

@@blarmy827 the thing is that they filled the comment section saying the same stuff, so in a way it is rude. If you see 2/3 comments explaining her how that is not fat shaming, then why you need to write your own comment saying literally the same stuff, it looks like you're attacking her.

8:11 But they aren’t fat shaming each other at all. Please don’t misunderstand and assume things from the direct translations you see ESPECIALLY if you are not familiar with Asian culture and nuances in the language. I’m an Asian myself and we pass these comments all the time and it is never intended to shame. It’s pretty normal here and taken light heartedly between family and friends and it doesn’t have a negative connotation to it. In fact such exchanges usually show close you are. There is no way to really explain it to westerners but be mindful of this and don’t be naive. You do not understand the cultural context of many things being said and sometimes it’s veeery difficult to translate things into english. When you make such comments be mindful that it’s almost like you’re insulting things that are a part of someone’s culture and making us feel ashamed of it. Calling someone “chubby” isn’t considered fat shaming he’s saying it in a loving way.

@@Lindsay_Loo Still not a great mindset to have to assume they were “fat shaming” That’s a very sensitive term and a serious claim and not something you use loosely in public. Antis and haters in the past have brought up fat shaming in the context of BTS and it is always and always will be seen in a negative light. It doesn’t matter if you see something out of context or if you’re new to the fandom. It’s common sense to not assume and use certain words while being well aware that they are reacting to a bunch of people from a different culture. Nothing wrong in always being more mindful especially when you’re putting content out for the public to watch. Others who do not know BTS who watch their video will simply nod and agree to her and in turn end up with a more misconceptions about the boys so it’s best to avoid that.

Bringing up a sensitive topic like "fat shaming" and using it loosely was not cool. Please avoid jumping to conclusions if you aren't aware of another person's culture and language. Your way of thinking is extremely westernised and when reacting to people from a different culture different from yours, you need to BE MORE OPEN to the possibility that their perspectives could be different from yours instead of JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS!! You are misjudging not just BTS but pretty much a whole race, making us feel bad about what's normal to us and in our daily lives. Direct English translations of course, can never capture the lightheartedness of conversations 100% and you guys should understand that by now. I understand that it is difficult to understand it, but just be more mindful of it the next time. What you read and see is not always what it correlates to in a different culture.

Yoongi's mum said she thought he looked like a steamed bun when she saw him on TV. She may have meant that he looked very pale because he does have very pale skin. Apparently Koreans are very straightforward and will tell you if they think you are fat, ugly etc. Not something we'd do here in the UK. Sorry Korean ARMYs if that isn't correct.

It’s a compliment and it means that he looks cute and of course his gorgeous pale skin as well. Chubby means cute and can be related to good fortune in Korean culture…. Jungkook along with all the members always love to call yoongi cute… it’s the same as jimin being called mochi or the whole bread cheeks thing… these are all loving terms of endearment and definitely not insults. These boys do not make a habit of cutting each other down about sensitive subjects… but like jimin commented on Jhope having a pimple and oily skin and nobody was confused… I mean that’s pretty much a good example of what you’re saying about people being up front in Asian culture…. But yeh chubby cheeks are adored there

Even my friends and family call me that and it's cute. There are things westerners will not quite understand about a different culture and mindset different from theirs but that doesn't mean you can just assume and accuse someone else especially when it's something as sensitive a subject as "fat-shaming" I hope she is reading all the comments left by armys here and be more open-minded. I mean think about it, for example: if we Asians look at french people kissing each other as a greeting and say something like "Oh I don't like it when they do that. That's "sexual assault"" how would they feel? I hope you see my point.

literally all these comments are about one small thing said in the video 😭 armys tend to overreact to things as u guys probably know so sorry about that. Anyways! my favorite part of the video was when rm said jimin just puts on clothes just to take them off lol they always tease him about that especially bc he used to claim it was always an "accident" every time his shirt or jacket would fall off his shoulder a little 😭 people tend to think of it as just him trying to be sexy but I honestly think it's also kinda bad-ass and like he's just owning the stage or the photoshoot or whatever. I always think to myself that he would be a great runway model XD

No one is overreacting. Saying that they are bodyshaming a member of their group is not okay. People in the comments are educating them about the cultural difference between western and asian approach of beauty

@@darshinijaymungul1807 that's not the part I think is an overreaction, I think the overreaction is that all the comments are about that even tho it could have been politely explained in one comment by one person

@@mayacollette people don't always read comments though? like they could've been just watching the vid and that suddenly happened and they scrolled down to write a comment without reading the others. also having repetitive comments about this isn't an issue, it'll make them realize that they shouldn't make hasty judgment so fast and be open minded. being senstive to fat shaming isn't an over reaction, and as someone who was chubby in middle school and had gone through it and knows how much it can fuck up someone's mentality, it's a very serious claim to just point your finger and go "oh that's fat shaming" without it being actually the case

@@ayxtoz it was a misunderstanding not some sort of criminal allegation so I don't understand why some comments were being so rude. like I said before, I'm not calling the polite comments that are just informing her an overreaction, I'm talking about the rude and passive aggressive ones. those r unnecessary.. armys have always been willing to politely educate ppl when someone misunderstands something so I'm just telling people to do that instead.. that's what being an army is all about
