Screed vs. Concrete Topping: Thickness, Composition, Functions, and Tips in Repairing Elevation

The term "screed" is often confused with concrete "topping".
Many people are still asking these types of questions:
- How thin can concrete topping be?
- What is concrete topping mix used for?
- How do I make concrete topping?
- What is the best concrete topping for houses?
Concrete topping is defined as a layer of high-strength concrete placed on an old, worn-out concrete surface to provide a dense, abrasion-resistant surface, to increase structural depth and strength of the base concrete.
On the other hand, while most people recognize the use of concrete topping on many construction purposes, especially when repairing elevations, there are actually specific purposes for concrete toppings.
Here at Buildrite, we want to popularize the term "screed", which is a concrete repair mortar and the prepacked counterpart of concrete toppings.
A floor topping and screeds are different in terms of composition, thickness, and functionalities! I just bought some amazing Buildrite Rubberstop which replaced the usual Vulcaseal or Duraseal which I'll never buy and even Omniflex (I went back to Rubberstop). I truly wish the founders of Buildrite also had their own all-around construction company (architects, 3D imaging, VR visualization with the new upcoming  VR/AR Goggles, foreman, in-house skilled and updated with skills/trained workers and engineers) like DMCI or SMDC, a one stop shop that accepts huge projects like building and houses and small to medium size projects like furniture, ceiling leak and roof fixes and renovation so that the customer has the peace of mind that Buildrite will apply the correct product (there are so many to choose from from each category, it'll be hard to keep up if the architech, foreman, engineers is 3rd party). It can be exposed to rain after 24 hours, and we recommend covering it once it rains for less than 24 hours. You can apply waterproofing materials over screed.

Hi, Thank you for inquiry! For roofdeck waterproofing, we have two options that you can use: Cementitious Underlayment or Waterproof Top Coat. 1. Flexicrete is a flexible cementitious waterproofing underlayment. It can be applied on areas where you need to apply a topping. 2. Clever Sil is a water-based, polyurethane waterproofing system that can be applied using a roller. It can be applied without a topcoat in areas with low to medium foot traffic.
