Per-Bastet, known to the ancient Greeks as Bubastis and called Tel Bata today, was a major city of Egypt during the 23rd dynasty (950-750 BCE). It was the center of the cult of Bastet, ancient cat goddess, and hosted a gigantic cemetery of domestic cats.

I'll probably never have the opportunity to visit these sites, Dr Miano, thank you for making these awesome videos! At about 7:20 in this video, you're explaining how parts of the large statue were attached, and you say "dolleys" were used in the drill holes? Did you mean "dowels?" Either way, what would they have been made of? I'm a very proud patreon supporter of Dr. Miano's work, and if you're reading this comment, why not go over and join for a few bucks a month as well? Interesting video on a subject I've never known other than that Egyptians revered domestic cats. Nice to learn more indepth background! Sometime in the future, maybe you could do a video on "The Sea People" you mentioned early in the video. I have only found rather controverial info on them. Who were they (do we know)? What new tech did they have that put such a dent in Mediterranean cities, or did they? So many questions.

I have to ask...... why did you decide to upload this instead of a new upload from your trip to Egypt? I was so looking forward to another instalment to the ATG from your Egyptian trip. Dr. Miano, Have been busy and just received your response to my comments on your stone cutting video. I am eager to respond but I see the video has been taken down? So some quick responses to your responses: 1.) 'Scoop marks/traces:' In the videos you supplied, in the now defunct "Stone Cutting" video, every time we are shown people pounding on granite, with dolerite pounding stones, the result is small amounts of crushed granite dust. At one point, a man blows the fine particulate matter off the stone to demonstrate his 'progress,' if we can call it that, and remarks, something to the effect that, 'now the crushed silica dust can be used as an abrasive for grinding through other stones.' This result is in clear contridiction to the possibility that such pounding could ever result in very smooth, long and concave channels being left behind as tool traces for this type of activity? Not to mention the fact that these channels have almost identical widths, between the peaks, and appear in sequences, next to one another, w/o a single gap appearing between them for many tens, or even, hundreds of sequential channels. There is just no way these 'scoops' were produced by any form of pounding. You ask me 'where the men were positioned?' I am telling you these traces were clearly produced using a technology and a methodology for which we currently have no explanation or understanding of. It is okay to say "I don't know or understand how this was done." I know the Orthodoxy cannot stand to admit that they do not know everything or that there are mysteries, in our past, for which we have no explanation but that is what we are seeing, wether you will admit it or not. 2.) Dream Stela: My example exactly addresses your comment on that video? You said that all stelae, made from igneous stones, were custom cut for the inscriptions that they were commissioned to bare, correct? You sight this as a proof that our 'Inheritance Paradigm' or 'Cargo cult' explanation, for the reuse of hard stone following the Old Kingdom, cannot be correct. However, the freakin' Dream Stela, placed in the shrine at the base of the Great Sphinx itself, is carved into a repurposed door lintel, supposedly, from the Old Kingdom. What better evidence do you need to realize that your statement is inaccurate, at best, and totally false at worst? 3.) 'Expensive' and 'Cheap' work at the same time: I am so happy that you asked me that. First off, the terms 'expensive' and 'cheap' already bias the argument toward your confused explanation for the evidence we see. The reason that we find 'primitive' and 'advanced' work together is exactly the reason why we believe what we do. Advanced technologies and methods were used to produce statuary, stoneware and structures at some point in the past. These items and constructions were reclaimed, found or rediscovered by later peoples who reused, copied and renovated them for the creation of their own culture. That is why we see these items passed down for generations and then we find them next to items, or structures, built by the known culture in question. That is the explanation for how these items, of vastly different quality and methods of manufacture, are found next to one another. How this is not obvious to you, I do not understand? Thank you for your detailed responses to my past comments. I always enjoy getting a chance to match ideas with you. Cheers.....
@WorldofAntiquity
@WorldofAntiquity Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughts. The stone cutting video will be up again soon, no worse for the wear. In response to your observations: 1) I assume you are referring to the marks found underneath the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan, though I don't think there are hundreds of channels around it, so I don't know. Maybe you also mean the indentations on top? One thing I can assure you is that, while they are close in size, they are not identical in width, nor is there a complete absence of gaps between them. Their variance is evidence that they were definitely done by hand. But ask yourself: Sitting out there for thousands of years, do you think their surface is exactly as it was left when the work was stopped? Most certainly not. All the dust and debris has been blown or washed away, and the surface itself has been weathered. So when you speak of smooth surfaces, please leave open the possibility that the surface you see is not exactly the surface as it would have looked immediately after the carvers left it. 2) You are mixing up a stone that was used as a stela with stones that were made AS stelas. This is an important distinction. A stone that was designed to be a stela is easily distinguished from a stone that was not designed to be a stela but was later used as one. 3) I could argue, and I will, that the terms "primitive" and "advanced" are ones that bias the argument. It is not hard to distinguish between something that is cheap and something that is primitive. Something that is cheap and something that is expensive come from the same cultural environment. This is why you can distinguish a cheap car from an expensive car. They still exhibit many of the same cultural similarities, but one is made with inferior materials and has fewer bells and whistles. Same with a cheap hotel and an expensive hotel. To call them "primitive" and "advanced" is definitely biasing the conversation. There is no doubt that the artifacts that I call cheap and expensive from ancient Egypt were all made by the Egyptians, because they exhibit features of the same cultural environment, and indeed, the same technology. So that is why the terms I use are more appropriate.
