I was also born in 1985 and only remembered the Principa./Bus Driver and the Gymn Teacher/Lunch Lady versions. I only recently heard the Barber/Aunt Edna and the Dad/Mom versions.

I remember these commercials being more from between 1988 and 1989; and 6 feet of bubble tape was found commonly in most grocery stores, liquor stores and supermarkets. It was popular with kids and teen. I remember the pink color of the 'bubble tape' and remember that it required having to save part of the gum 'for later' all the time because one roll of tape was not enough for one day. As a result the bubble gum soured and was not good. They made them way too long and no one can chew or eat that much bubble gum lol

Serious question. When exactly do "for you" kids become "not them" adults? I'm almost 40, and I've been to a heavy metal concert. I neither dance the polka nor do I love lima beans. I can smile, swim and rap. I never escaped from charm school, I don't iron my underwear or watch hygiene videos. I guess I haven't done the bubble tape in awhile though, but I don't think I'd resist as hard as they all did.

I think what happens is that Bubble Tape, or at least the commercials, become the polka of their day and the kids are into something completely different. I guess we gotta pass the torch.

I'm a for you and them at the same time. I don't smile, swim, or rap...much. I can drive but it's been almost 12 years since I drove, I don't wear curlers but make funny noises. I don't do what the gym teacher or lunch lady does but I know when filming ice cream people put mash potatoes with an ice cream scoop and add shaving cream on it. I never been to a heavy metal concert, I probably danced the polka, I love Lima beans, never had a Mohawk, I play bingo, and bowl. And I'm NOT like the barber nor aunt...but I may get some Bubble Tape. I'm like the parents...except I'd chew Bubble Tape!

My daughter, in addition to being a teacher AND Headmistress at her and her brothers’ old private school- A-DOES smile a LOT… B-CAN swim (loves synchronized swimming)… &… C-DOESN’T rap, but DOES play bass guitar 🎸 in a goth-metal band with her brothers and a friend of theirs! …BUT… Does NOT allow the chewing of ANY gum of ANY kind in HER classroom!!! 2.) I’m retired, but I DO substitute for my daughter in the classroom quite a bit, AND help out in the school cafeteria, SSOOOOOO- A-I DON’T wear a hairnet, but I DO wear a bandanna/headscarf (just not in the classroom…😊)… B-I DON’T serve mashed potatoes with an ice cream scoop (not even at home…🤨)… C-I DEFINITELY DO NOT put gravy on EVERYTHING (only upon request, and request alone…🧐)… &… I NEVER put anyone up to anything I wouldn’t do, SSOOOOOO, if there’s IS a MYTH here, it’s “any kind of gum is part of a well-balanced diet” (NOT!!!)… 😄😁😆🥹😅😂🤣‼️‼️‼️‼️
