What I like best about the 110 is that you get most of the performance of a fixed blade in a folding knife, which means I can take it almost anywhere. There aren't many folders that can be used comfortably for long periods of hard use.

The Buck 110 was the knife to have when I was in Scouts. I carried mine through 6 years of Scouting, hunting trips, working on my grandparents farm, numerous camping trips, i skined small game with it, cut kindling and probably some wire. I used it all the time until pocket clip knives came around in my 30s. I prefer the pocket clip for EDC because I can take it wherever I can legally carry a knife without drawing attention like a sheath hanging off my belt. You can open the 110 one handed. Grab the blade, hinge down and give it a flick of the wrist. I did it all the time. Great, classic knife. Every knife enthusiast should own one.

The Buck 110 was the original hard use folder and while many modern creations have come along which have their advantages, the Buck will still do what it was intended to do. It is also aesthetically pleasing with its general shape and old school brass, steel and wood. If you consider the quality of workmanship for the cost, its certainly well worth owning.

I carried a 110 everyday for over 20 years and still do at times, I have a extensive modern knife collection but still love my 110. As far as being a “only two hand opener” your wrong, I can wrist flick mine open in the blink of an eye! And as far as weight goes this is not a pocket knife for your skinny jeans, it’s made to go in a leather sheath on your belt and if that 7 or so oz’s on your hip takes some getting use to you might want to stick to those 3 fingered paper cutters that everyone makes today. IMO the 110 is fantastic timeless American classic for real outdoorsmen.

LOL, thanks for your comment, I LOVE the buck 110, though's were just some gripes I had with it. If the laws change here in Canada and I can have a 110 auto I would carry it ones again.

I've carried a 110 series knife over 40 years. Yes, the same knife, every day. I carry it; camp; fish, and hunt with it. I don't leave the house without it. For a lock-blade knife it's the only one I'll buy. Yes, I've had other brands, but they simply won't stand up

Good video. I had a Buck 110 in the early 1970s. It was the first knife I had capable of doing just about everything at home, camping and self defense in NYC. It IS a great American Knife made in the USA with a proven and proud history. My Uncle carried one in Vietnam and said he used it more than his Kabar.

I bought one in 1973 and they had better steel then. With all they better steels out there I don’t know why they keep using 420HC. They do make a few with S30V but why don’t they use it in all their knives is ten times better then 420 HC

I still use my father’s 4 dot buck 110 to this day. 4 dots are dated back to the mid 80s, back when they were using 425M steel.

I wear and use this knife since 1985, when my elder brother give it to me as a birthdaypresent. I am from Germany and he went to Fort Bliss,TX during his time in the german Airforce, there he bought it for me. For this reason, is it a bit more as a normal knife for me. It served me well and still do so!

The answer is yes. Buck 110s are absolutely worth it. You can even pick up some older ones for cheaper and they’re still great.

Here's the thing, when you're bored with tactical fidget flippers, and you work outside in a ranch environment, and it's been a long day and it's cold and you're tired and just want to get your work done and don't care about anything else, that's when you "get" the 110.

Thats the beauty of it, two hand opening its nastalgic, this knife was before all the auto options it give you the oldschool feeling which i love, this knife made me a knife collector, im australian and my late uncle gave me his buck 110 when i was 9, now i buy knives all the time. yes, best purchase ever. I've got two of them, always wear it on my belt , use it regularly on the farm along with my swiss knife, can't do without them, tools of the trade. The quality is second to none, don't consider cheaper versions, particularly Chinese sh--t. I've had mine knives for 40 + years now, still looks good and only sharpened once in all that time. cheers Vic. Stock, Australia.

My father gave me one of those back in 1985 and I used it to field dress my first buck. I absolutely love that knife and still have it. It's actually a Border Patrol commemorative with serial number just one from my father's. I actually joined the Border Patrol in 1995 and still carry that buck 110 on my duty belt with it's original leather sheath which has the Border Patrol seal on it. I just recently bought another one brand new for $46.00 free shipping with leather case. MADE IN USA. It's absolutely just exactly as awesome as my other one from 1985. It also came razor sharp. I still can't believe the price as I examine the craftsmanship of the knife. Not a single flaw and it's a dang attractive knife.

Just bought one made in November 2022. Amazing knife ...incredibly sharp. Solid. And man it feels good 8n your hands. This knofe will last you a life time. Or you could buy cheaper knives over and over again . Just spend the money and buy this one you won't be disappointed

and to be perfectly honest, it is my preference, I still love to carry it and still do carry it, just because theres some things I don't like doesn't mean I hate the knife, it is my favourite folding knife I own. thanks for watching.

ik this video is pretty old, but for anyone with the 2handed action complaint. heres a little trick i picked up recently when i was watching some reviews for the 110 and the variants. so the normal buck 110 is generally said to be a bit hefty, meaning, you can use its weight to help with opening the blade with one hand. all you gotta do is firmly grip the blade on the notch with your thumb and side of index finger then using that thumb make sure to push the blade out of the handle just a bit then just jerk/fling the handle downwards. like when you play with a stick and swing it down in a swift motion. just be sure to keep holding on to the blade real firm while doing this otherwise youll end up just throwing the darn thing 😅. but once you get the hang of it, you can deploy the 110 pretty quickly and with minimal effort.

Well, I’ve had my 110 FG (or “Finger Grooved”) for the past 40 years, and it’s still the finest hunting knife I’ve ever owned. Holds its edge for a ridiculously long period of time before it needs resharpening, the blade shows no signs of rust despite its many years of hard camping use, the fold/ unfold mechanism is still just as smooth as the day that it was gifted to me, and (from a strictly aesthetic point of view) the brass ends age with a gorgeously rugged look. (Quite the contradiction in terminology, I know). What strikes me as ironic is the fact that this knife really isn’t worth much to collectors, even though it was constructed back in 1981 or 1982. According to eBay and other sites, this knife’s resale value hovers only between $55 and $75 U.S. dollars, as opposed to these butterfly/ switchblade garbage knives today that retail for $200+. I suppose this is what happens when you own a product of true quality: Those of us who already have a Buck 110 will never need another one.

Agree, Like I said it would be my EDC if I could get the 110 auto. But I love the 110 unlike other folding knives the 110 in my opinion is the strongest folding knife ever made!

You can actually open and close it with one hand, it just takes a little bit of training, the secret for opening it one handedly is to grab the steel firmly a rappidly move the hand downwards and the weight of the handle makes it flick open. My father taught me, that this was the way they (as a kids and young adults) opened their Bucks and similar knifes. Oh and It is easier the longer you use the knife, brand new won't open like that easily. :)

I’ve been a working man my whole life and I’ve worked with other working men my whole life as well. To this day I’ve never seen any working men using a benchmade, spyderco or any other $200 knife that all you KZfaqrs brag about for work. But a buck 110... to this day! I see many other working men including myself using them. I also hunt and fish. My statement above goes for the 110 as well.

Classic Bucks are hard to beat. But modern flippers and thumb stud flippers are quick to open one handed we come a long way in knife designs. Thanks for your veiw point

My one hand opening method is to hold the knife firmly by the nail nick and give it a quick shake downwards. Gravity will help you with that.

You did not mention there life time warranty, they will replace the blade are the rocker are both if needed clean and polish the brass 🎉 they are working on my buck now its 50 years old. Check out some of the others u tubers channels that showed their buck knifes that Buck refurbished ( fantastic looking jobthey did on those old buck knifes 😊

A legend in the field, farm and workshop since 1961 and it's still up for review? C'mon. The knife that's inspired it's replication more than any other folder. Only modern flipper fashionistas complain about the Buck 110. Got my first in the mid '70's. Lost it in '88. Immediately replaced it. How many other makers can beat Buck's Forever Warranty? A half a dozen Bucks over 40 years and I've never needed it.

I have a 110 slim line knife with a deep carry clip. You only need one hand for the knife, it takes a wicked edge, it is lighter in weight, it is a workhorse, and it is a buck. Buck has been in business for a long time. You do not remain in the knife market very long if you produce crap knives. Sure, there are other options out there, but you must ask yourself why people gravitate towards buck knives. As a long time owner and collector I can tell you that they make solid knives.

Buck 110's are very easy to open one handed. You grab the blade and flip the handle away .... Yes, you need to move your hand to re-grip the handle .....

It’s not true that it takes two hands to open a Buck 110. I have opened my 110 with one hand without the thumb screw since I bought it 47 years ago. Just sent it back to Buck for a SPA treatment. To open the knife with one hand place it in your hand firmly and flick your wrist with a quick snap. The blade flys open instantly and will lock into place. It takes a bit of practice to master the technique but once you do your muscle memory will kick in and you’ll never forget it. Tip: practice this standing over your bed as you’re liable to drop it while you’re teaching yourself. You have to loosen you’re wrist in order to flick the knife and at the same time tighten the grip on the knife with you’re fingers to keep it from flying out of your hand. Once you learn it though it becomes second nature. It’s like riding a bicycle, you’ll never forget it. . Tip: If your knife is new it will most likely be stiff and a tad gritty. Your going to want to clean and lube it first before using it to learn this trick. I just tried it on a new / very stiff Buck 110. Couldn’t do it. Guess I have some breaking in to do. I bought it new today to carry while Buck is doing the SPA treatment on my original. Good price considering the current market, $55.00. .

I had one but yhe release to close the blade was way too stiff.. they need to look at a camillus knife which isn't made any more with a lever on the side to flip open and the locking mechanism is very nice to unlock the blade

For one handed opening, i do keep an aftermarket thumbstud on my edc 110 but even without it, i use gravity. If you hold the exposed part of the blade firmly with the tip pointing upwards, you can wind your hand backward (right hand winds right and left hand winds left) and then flick your hand forwards. The weight of the brass and wood will make the handle fling down. From there you can either keep your grip on the spine of the blade to use or if you practice with it, you can almost toss the knife up and drop your hand so you can grab the handle. That or you can use your fingers to wiggle your grip down the blade, but, it's possible to open most "old style" knives one handed, just gotta find a creative way to do it. Anyways, i loved the video. The 110 is just my favorite knife of all time

it is heavy in the pocket. but there is no better knife for skinning a moose. i got a knock off version to practice drilling and setting a pocket clip works well but takes away from the nostalgia of the knife

I bought one of these about 50 years ago, when I was working on the San Diego waterfront. It was hard to keep sharp, because of the odd shape of the blade edge. Of course, this was when Buck was in El Cajon, about ten miles east of the waterfront, so I could have driven out to their shop, where they promised to sharpen it like new, but I didn’t want a knife that needed special care. The other bad thing is the shape of the handle. The square edges are very uncomfortable in the hand. Fortunately for me, since I worked with boat people, they turned me on to the Case Shark Tooth. It was a lot like the Buck, but the handle had rounded edges, so it was extremely comfortable to hold. It was also easier to keep sharp, had better wood on the handle, and just looked a lot nicer. It’s no longer on the Case Web site; flipping blades have made it obsolete. However, I saw nothing on their site that looks as artfully made. If you want this comfortable classic, they are available on eBay.

Grab the blade only tip pointed up and flick your wrist so the weight of the handle causes the knife to pop open. The blade is now free and the handle is now below your hand.

Coming late to the party, and someone else may have already mentioned it, but you can get deployment sheaths for the 110 that open the blade for you when you pull it out of the sheath. Also, the 110 slim and slim pro have thumb studs so you can open 1 handed. Going a step further, I'm planning on putting a snaggletooth on my 110 slim pro so it deploys from the pocket.

If you like the 110 but want a fixed blade, you can always choose the Buck 101. Same blade shape as the 110, but non folding. Comes with a nice leather sheath also 👍.

Hold the blade, flick the handle towards you. The weight of the handle will open it right up. Easy one hand opening though arguably not as safe.

Great video, thank you! My collection consists of only a few brands, Chris Reeve (I have many), Hinderer, Victorinox, Case and of course, I love my Buck 110’s. I have standard, S30V, several customs, several DLT Trading exclusives in drop point 20CV and S35VN and I really love the new aluminum version with Micarta scales and pocket clip. Just fantastic knives!

@@gearup9503 unfortunately I live in Pennsylvania and and Hutton to deploy a knife is illegal (the crazed stupidity behind these laws aside, I will eventually get one legal or not). My Emerson knives with the wave opening feature deploy a million times faster and they affine in Pa lol!

I carry mine everyday. I'm 35 years old and I could carry a much cooler newer super tactical amazing steel that nobody understands actually knife but then If somebody is sees it they may not like it. (Authorities) Nobody blinks an eye when you're carrying an old knife like the 110. It's low key. Edit: And it kicks a**. !

One handed opening - hold the blade between thumb and index finger, top of the handle facing away from your body. Flick the knife towards the outside of your body. Totally works with a bit of practice.

I would love to have one in Auto, and it's against the law here too. And that's a shame. It's an American legend. However im on the fence for a 110 slim and the steel is perfectly fine for this knife I've had to Buck 110 my whole working career. You're not going to find a better working Man knife

You might want to check out the Buck 110 Sport new for 2022. It's lighter with Green Canvas Micarda and opens with one hand. Available on the Buck factory website for around 140 US. I assume they ship to 🇨🇦 🍁??

There was a sale at Cabelas (I am Canadian) on Buck knives Alaskan Guide Series so I snagged 110 and Vantage Small both in S30V steel and TBH I probably will never use them as they’re absolutely beautiful 😍 and I have plenty others knives I will never run out (July 1-4 2023) I couldn’t afford Vantage Large,but maybe one day price will go down…I could buy it right now but I don’t have or want to spend $180 on it… $100 is OK…

Pinch the blade and use the inertia of the handle to open the knife. It works.

Do it the way I've been opening lockbacks since the 80s. Pinch the spine of the knife and flick your wrist. It will open quickly then just adjust your grip. It's easy to be a one handed opener.

I love the 110 and I love mine, however it's price has gone a little too high this past year. As for opening it with 2 hands, there's a different kind of thumb stud that looks a lot better than the one you showed. With the thumb stud, you can open it and close it with 1 hand. I stopped carrying my modern folder (many Spydercos, Benchmade, and Demko) for traditional non locking knives.

I own about 70 knives. I bought a Buck 110 and carried it for a week. The brass parts of the handle started turning green. It was summer but the knife didn't get wet. Humidity did that? I was shocked! Sold it cheap.

IMHO If you can't do it with a Buck 110 or 112(in any steel version) then you need a lot more$$$ knife and probably a fixed blade starting with 154cm steel or similar. I always reach for my Buck 112.

@@gearup9503 Yes, it's definitely worth it. It has a good heft and also works really well with a thumb stud which is legal for me, a fellow Canadian. It looks a lot less intimidating in a "family" campground. I'll probably get one in S30V steel and some fancy stag handle (not because it's necessary). I've got Benchmades, Spdercos, Kershaws etc. and the Buck 112 is usually the one I take. Mine is about 40 yrs old and I'm 68. I also own a Collector's model Buck 112 from about 1988.

Great video, and as I am sure you have seen possibly others have mentioned Buck are doing one handed opening that is not automatic. I've seen the 'Buck Folding Hunter Sport Knife' which has similar dimensions to the classic 110 and the newer for this year 'Buck Folding Hunter Slim Pro TRX Knife'. However, I agree a fixed blade is better depending on where you are and what you can carry legally. I have the classic 110 and smaller 112 version and they are stunning. If I was in the wilderness and we don't get too much of that here in the UK I would opt for a fixed blade as well. Unfortunately here in the UK we go one stage further with our knife laws and locking knives are not allowed in public placed unless you have a fantastically good reason! @@gearup9503 Thank you for your reply. Actually if you are thinking of getting the 112 then this is the year as they currently have their 50th anniversary edition of the 112. It was released in 1972 because of an 'altercation' as they called in on a Navy ship with a Buck 110. So the story goes the 110 was prohibited as the blade was 'too long' and Buck devolved the 112 Ranger. The name Ranger is after the Navy ship in the port at the time. It is I think, like the Buck 110 50th anniversary edition of a few years ago and going to be produced for the whole year with the standard 112 version. More or less everything is the same but has a different blade stamp and an inlay in the handle. I think the packaging has changed too. I will hopefully get one but the downside is that, here in the UK, the cheapest 50th anniversary Buck 112 I can purchase, at the moment, will be £123.25 GB pounds or $154.93 US dollars! The US Buck web site has the 50th edition 112 for $85 US dollars (£67.61 GB pounds) and I think many websites and shops will be cheaper than this! That is kind of messed up because I could buy two from the US, if I lived there, for the price of one from the UK. In that case I would have the plain and finger grove version as it's the same money. OK enough of that you ask what I thought of it. I really 'really' like my Buck 112. I had it before the Buck 110. I really like the way it fits in your hand. If you look at the underside of the 110 compared to the 112 you will see a deeper curve near the blade than the 110. I feel far more comfort in holding the 112 than the 110. The 112's shorter blade is perfectly usable it just feels better to me in the hand. I would not say my hands are small but I think bigger hands might not get the same benefit. The blade entering on both Bucks are spot on and the fit and finish are really good. They are just so sharp out of the box and take a beautiful hair popping edge. I think the steel is a good combination of edge retentions and easy to sharpen. I have some knives with much harder steels that 'feel' impossible to get a decent edge. If I could legally carry it then I would. Maybe in a leather slip in my pocket rather than the provided one on the belt. Sorry I think I've got on a bit!. I really like both 110 and 112 but really love the way the 112 fits my hand. Just so comfortable to hold and use. I really like the longer blade of the 110 and sometimes need to be careful as being longer you can 'poke/cut' yourself if used to the slightly shorter 112 as I am. OK I hope that helps. The only other Buck I have is the UK legal Buck 301 stockman in the rosewood. It's very nice but I wish the back spring on the slip joint was stronger. I've thinking one wrong turn and it will close on your fingers! Very Best Gray.

@@gearup9503 What I should have said was that in 2017 my first ever Buck was a 112 and was given to me by an American. An Ex-Marine now living here in the UK. He had two Buck 112 and gave me one. The one he gave me was he friend's beater knife and was in terrible shape. I liked it but the blade was very worn down with maybe a lifetime of sharpening. The brass was badly smashed as if the person used it as a hammer. I left it in the kitchen draw and one day came across a KZfaq video on Buck knives. Living here in the UK I never really saw them growing up or in shops. I started to see them and became excited to went to my Buck in the draw and just felt sad. After a few videos KZfaq suggest some more and one talked about the warranty. I ignored that for another year thinking it can only be for if you are living in America. I've never been and word love to go but didn't want to even think about travelling with it to see what Buck would do. It was only a chance comment by another knife friend that made me look up the number of Buck's representative here in the UK. I called and they said to post it to them. I did and after a short time I contacted them and they said it was too worn down to send it over to the US for the spa treatment. On the spot they offered me a replacement knife. I told them I did not buy it from new myself and they said that didn't matter. The lifetime is on the knife not the owner. I checked with the person that gave it to me and they were really happy for me to do it. Sure enough Buck UK sent me a new 112 in 2017 and that is my much loved knife to this day. Personally if could buy two 50th anniversary knives for the price of one UK knife I would buy and gift one to my Ex US Marine friend as it would make his day. OK that's my story of how I ended up with one here in the UK. Very best - Gray

If you don't mind me asking can you carry a knife in the UK? if so a viewer of mine recommended this Quick Draw Sheath witch as the name suggests makes the knife able to be diploid with one hand. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Classic knife. Time tested and proven. A little overpriced these days for what you get, but part of what you're paying for is nostalgia, IMO. Btw, you can open it one handed by pinching the blade and flicking the handle downward.

I disagree that it's overpriced. Overpriced compared to what? Show me another folding knife made in USA of similar quality for $70. Buck 110 is near-custom level craftsmanship. This is as close as you're going to get to a custom made knife without paying hundreds of dollars.

If you're limiting things to made in the U.S. only, then I guess it's on par price wise, as just about all American made knives are overpriced when compared to what you can get from other countries. And I'm not bashing American made. I'm American, and I even make knives myself. The overall quality of the Buck 110 just isn't all that great though tbh. I love it, but more for nostalgic reasons.

I carried mine everyday for about 5 years before i retired it and bought a newer one last year with the ebony scales. I broke the tip off of the blade on my newer one so i have to send it in to buck and have it fixed. Ive been carrying a little buck 373 as my edc since then and even though its a chinese made knife its still pretty nice for 20 bucks. Im about to buy a buck 110 auto for my next edc.

Gotta disagree about the "two-hand" opening. There is a specific technique to opening the 110 with one hand. I do it all the time. Do some research.
