This is the opening to the original theatrical release (March 1979) of the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century theatrical film. It is significantly different from the opening to the television series.
The only other copy of this on youtube ( • Buck Rogers Theatrical... ) is filmed from a small TV, and I figured I'd show you all a better version. Enjoy!
Note: This video is fair use under U.S. copyright law because it is (1) non-commercial, (2) uses only 2% of the original work, and (3) does not compete with the original work and could have no negative effect on its market.

Song lyrics: Far beyond the world I've known, Far beyond my time. What am I, who am I, what will I be? Where am I going, and what will I see? Searching my mind for some truth to reveal What thoughts are fantasy, what memories real? Long before this life of mine, Long before this time. What was there, who cared to make it begin? Is it forever, or will it all end? Searching my past for things that I've seen Is it my life, or just something I've dreamed? Far beyond this world I've known, Far beyond my time. What kind of world am I going to find? Will it be real, or just all in my mind? What am I, who am I, what will I be? Where am I going, and what will I see? I remember seeing this with my great uncle and my Grandmother at the show(theater) I may have been about 5. This opening was weird and dreamy to me at the time. I wasn't sure why but I liked it. it gave the movie a surreal feel. This movie blew me away from the concept of what it would feel like to know that every person you ever knew was long dead. That's where the dreamy opening comes in. Buck is forever trapped in a dream but only the dream is reality.

In Germany we just saw the movie, 1985! The series was shown, but not available in complete Germany. I didn’t know that there was a TV show existing since 2010😳 But back 1985 I loved the song, and recorded it to tape to hear it multiple times a day for months! my Mom was going nuts…😁 And I fall in love with Gil😘 thanks for sharing!! That gave me a nice memory😘

As a few commenters pointed out, this seems to be inspired by a lot of Maurice Binder's work with the classic Bond film intros (the female leads in skimpy clothing writhing around to the theme music as the starting credits roll)...Still pretty entertaining to watch, though!

My dad took me to see this when i was younger. his knowledge of buck rogers was from his childhood, and when this intro was presented he said aloud in the theater "What the hell kind of nonsense is this? This isn't Buck Rogers". He marched out of the theater. I never got to actually see this movie until years later, though I did watch the TV series when it came out. He used to puzzle about why they didn't use the TV show intro for the movie. He never forgave them for ransacking what had been one of his favorite serials. I remember as we drove home, with sadness in his voice he said, "You are growing up in a very different world than I did Son. I'm sorry. I'm sorry this is what we've left you with. "

With Battlestar Galactica ,Star trek (from Paramount pictures), and all the craving space science fiction fans , as well as the works in the late '70s- early '80s......... this could be fun. This is the stuff dreams are made of, and it all began at the age of 6 when I first saw this (on TV actually).
