"Consider what's best for baseball in the long run" What's best for baseball in the long run is to send a clear message that cheating to get a championship is more wrong than it is important to protect MLB's image in the future. Not rescinding the 2017 title is a cop out, plain and simple.

@Error Report the issue with that argument is that 1) the most realistic reason you mentioned is PED users. 2) by and large nearly all the individual PED users that were caught served some sort of suspension, fine or both. 3) this scenario isn't this same thing because this is an organization wide effort to cheat in which everyone on the team, willing or not, was a participant and no one with power to stop it actually did. ARod and all the PED users lost time in the league, games played, pay, etc. As it stands now the players involved in Houston have materially lost nothing. That's the issue. And I get why it's impractical to hand down 25 individual punishments, so the best catch all punishment for the players is to remove their ability to call themselves world champions.

@Error Report no it's all way simpler than that. You simply change the official records so that when people look up "2017 WS champion" the answer is "no official champion". And none of the players or coaches from that team can use "2017 WS champ" on their resume ever again. Boom. Done.

Joe man only if they find a different way to cheat. Don’t forget, the Pats cheated more than one way What the Astros did was a disgrace to Houston, MLB, fans and themselves. This shouldn’t and won’t be a motivator. They should be embarrassed for cheating and all the lies. In my opinion they got off too easy. They made over 60 million for that championship and to only be fined 5 million, that doesn’t make sense. Altuve should have his MVP award stripped and the same goes for Alavez’s ROY award.

I’m eager to see the fallout from this. No way this was completely limited to the Astros, Red Sox, and Cora. Certainly I think they were doing the most, but these types of things were almost definitely happening with other clubs.

All that matters is who was caught. The Astros need to be stripped of the championship and really players and on up should be banned for life. Also these people of course should not end up in the HOF no matter what they did right. So sick of sports turning into what it is.

There was once a cheating scandal in D1 softball. UCLA got caught cheating. The NCAA vacated their championship that year. Meaning no champion that year. This to me is what the MLB must do in this situation. Strip the stros of their Championship and maybe this will stop.

Lance Armstrong was stripped of 7 Tour de France Titles------and the 2nd place finisher was named the TDF winner in each case. LA DODGERS should be named 2017 Champions --- on the same correct principle. Its only fair.

Only thing I would say is the tour de france is much more linear than baseball. Its clear that the second place finisher was better than the third so its pretty straightforward to award the true winner. When you have a playoff system whats to say that the dodgers the second place team beats the yankees or any of the other teams the cheatstros beat in the playoffs? Whats to say they win 107 games or even make the playoffs? Strip them yes but i dont give the title to any team.

They should have the line up suspended -each batter -for say, 12 games. But not all at once. Like 2 batters at a time ( like a penalty box, while the other games go on. This way the team feels it with players being punished. But this is proably too extreme, the greatest punishment is they are up there with Pete Rose scandal and P.E.D’s. ( this is worse than P.E.D’s)

Its complete bull that you punish Hinch and the GM (who definitely should have stopped it...if the players are too powerful, then control the staff on the ground, or blow the whistle on your own team) and you are going to punish Cora, but you do not punish Beltran who is explicitly named in the report...if the Mets had any dignity, they would fire Beltran tomorrow because he is the only player mentioned in the report and the report alleges that he was a key part of it who approached Cora with the initial idea....the title should absolutely be vacated...no winner in 2017 and if the Red Sox did the same stuff in 2018, no winner in 2018....The trophies should be taken, the rings destroyed, and the championship pool clawed back from the players and donated to charity

That must have been a wonderful dream you had last night. Are you awake now? 1. Mets are not gonna fire Beltran with Pitchers and cathers reporting in less than a month. 2. Retracting titles and money is alot more complicated than you think. Why do you think Unions (MLPA) exist? So people dont get screwed over by big corporations and lose money over BS 3. Can't get back the trophy. Rings will definitely NOT be returned because the team pays for them, not MLB.

The only way I see out of this is to make all forms of tech completely legal in Baseball. Let everyone film everyone....hell, get some ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ vibe going to boost the league. If all forms of tech were allowed, the defensive team would be able to communicate the next pitch in a manner undetectable by the other team. One of the coaches could speak and the pitcher and catcher could confirm until they sync up.

I’m with Buck on this one, it’s a very fine line and anyone who doesn’t realize that some level of sign stealing and signaling was already a major part of baseball simply doesn’t know the sport. I completely understand that using technology is a completely different aspect than simple human eye observation but this is no different than any other aspect of life, the game and all sports are evolving, be it right or wrong. I don’t advocate cheating but like Buck said it didn’t seem to make a difference to Washington, they won every road game and vice versa for Houston, if you can’t conceal your signs then you’re doing something wrong and you need to do a better job in the deception department.

Why are you asking Baseball people about the commissioner? They are not going to say anything critical about him, the league or any owners. They don't want to be separated from the game. Every one knows that AJ, no matter how nice he is broke the rules. He paid with his job. But the players were even worse. What will happen to them? Nothing at all. Since Day 1 of this story breaking Buck was the most "defend the shield" of commentators: refused to condemn, always hedging about proof and arguing it shouldn't be outraged over...and now here he is again, still backed into a corner and refusing to condemn. Hate to argue motives, but wonder if he's making sure no owner or team would get irked and refuse to hire him.

Buck was great in this interview. The guys interviewing him not so much. One thing people never think of is the Astros fans. Haven't they been through enough? And these assholes want to take the title away? Honestly whatever happened only seemed to hurt the Astros not help as anyone who did even the slightest bit of research would see their home performance over 2017 and 2018 was significantly worse than their road performance. I honestly th ink whatever they did hurt them. I remember wondering why they couldn't hit at home to save their lives and they'd go on the road and be really good.

Long time Astros fans will be the hardest hit with this scandal. I have been an Astros fan for 50 years. I will be taking at least a 10 year break from them. We did not want a tainted championship. But understand. A lot of MLB teams were likely doing the same thing.

Sound like an apologist for cheating. This is not one corked bat or a couple players taking roids. This is a whole organized team, cheating scandal. Top to bottom, take the trophy, rings and 30.4 million in bonus money away.

Anarchy has nothing to do with not following rules. Anarchy has everything to do with abandoning formal leadership and people agreeing to a set of principles. Players policing themselves, with the unwritten rules, is anarchy, and it works.

American pastime is shopping, eating, and having your face looking at a phone screen. Baseball has been through a lot before and made it through and it will do the same here. But if cheating "destroyed" the game, then it was destroyed long before this.

Not defending the astros at all, they were 100% wrong in what they did. however, they did post a 53-28 on the road vs. 48-33 at home. so they were still a good team, and all the people saying they should not have home field advantage, doesn't mean they would have necessarily been any worse. we will never know, unless someone knows marty mcfly

Sounds like Buck would have banged on the trash can and buzzed the remote too. Its a brotherhood. They all cheat in MLB. But this was way over the top and Buck saying AJ will land again someplace is BS.

Its WAR!! If i was Yankees pitching i would plunk these guys. If i was Chappy i would plunk altuve in the rib cage when i face him. Get the attention of MLB by doing that. Showalter is passing the Buck like he would do the same thing the Astros did. Cheat by any means necessary. Just an opinion.

sad , Buck changes his tune. Maybe MLB had a talking with him or looking for one of those jobs. Better off with the Mets, at least they weren't part of the scandal.
