I need to listen to more Buckethead, dude is absolutely fucking insane and his playing is so good as well. Fucking love his tone on this song, man, I always compared his playing on Soothsayer to him playing like David Gilmour for like 9 minutes with how melodic and emotive that solo is... Plus it'll always baffle me that he has 400+ albums out, like how the fuck he puts out so much material that frequently is just insanity but it's awesome regardless

Same, if anyone can recommend a few songs, kind of in the style of this one (less generic shredding, more melody and feel)

There are heaps of chill, melodic buckethead songs some that come to mind hills of eternity, padmasana, watching the boats with my dad, sail on soothsayer etc. and i know there is way more when you include all the pikes there are loads of mixes and playlists for bucketheads music on KZfaq I recommend checking out gs and buckethead rocks, they both have made plenty of amazing mixes that will keep you entertained for hours on end

I need to go download this right now, I've been waiting on a new chart for this one mainly because the other one is bass only for some dumb reason. I wish someone would make a chart of welcome to bucketheadland. Buckethead is my guitar idol lol

This is my first time actually hearing Buckethead, is this kind of his schtick? Dude noodling over his own backing tracks? Ig that explains why he's released so many 'albums.' It's not bad or anything to be clear, just never really knew what his stuff was like.

It both is and it isn’t. Buckethead has a lot of songs that are essentially long guitar solos over backing tracks, especially nowadays, but there are also plenty of albums and songs that aren’t like that at all. Off this same album is We Can Rebuild Him, which, while technical, is not as shred heavy as this song or Gory Head Stump. If you want a more chill vibe with less guitar solos, I would recommend the Colma and Electric Tears album. Colma is more or less all acoustic, and Electric Tears is nothing but guitars, and both give a soft, almost ambient vibe instead of a heavy metal vibe. He just put out an album with Madeline Cyrille Miller a couple months ago that continue this vibe. Giant Robot 1992 is great if you do like his heavy side but don’t want to hear constant “shreds to his own backing tracks” type of thing. He also had a dark ambient project named Death Cube K, but some of his pikes carry on that legacy. If you want to start with his more modern works, It’s Alive is a good start. It’s varied, and it is not a complete shredfest. Other than that, yeah, if you want to try to get into Buckethead, there’s a lot of stuff that’s waiting to be discovered. Just be prepared to hear a bit of shredding, especially when you get into the pikes. But I hope this can help you.

he has a chill side to him aswell its not all shred. On his first 40 or so official albums theres a lot of variety then the pike series is a mixed bag theres some absolute gems there too. He also has a bunch of sideprojects and collaborations as well. Pretty much almost everything is instrumental but theres literally something for everyone there if you keep digging. I kind of wish his other stuff got more recognition tho, pretty much always when theres some sort of video about buckethead its either jordan or soothsayer lol

Sometimes... but probably not more than 5% of his output. And even when he does it often has a way of building towards a climax that is astonishing and rewards relistening. But he has done a LOT of other stuff and styles. The tracks on the early albums like 'The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock' are heavy, brooding, quite mad, whereas 'Shadows Beneath the Sky' is calm, acoustic, light. Some of his later stuff is single-track albums, which can be for completists only, but can also be absolute masterpieces, sometimes with incredible solos, other times without solo work. What he does do better than ANYONE is right the most amazing number of simply brilliant riffs. It's impossible to pick a selection without immediately thinking of other tracks, but to get a sense of his range... Final Wars kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gp-aiNFpl7SpmJs.html Insane, eclectic, incredible riffs and melodies, breathless, constantly changing. Bird With a Hole in The Stomach kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMuempCLkseXZYU.html Again, amazing riffs, more of a traditional song, funky, brilliant blues-y/shreddy solos. Lirtson Nostril kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5OFecZjzb29ZY0.html Completely different, hypnotic, dreamy, quietly and understatedly building at different moments in subtle but powerful ways. Glow Worm kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5OffZqc3qe4nYU.html An absolute beast of a song. No solo, just dark, brooding, insistent, growling stuff. Immense song. I Love My Parents kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLmog6dyusjNgXU.html The most beautiful song ever written. No, seriously. By the end you will have tears in your eyes. I guarantee it. Acoustic, orchestral masterpiece. Land of Miniatures kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLKimc2BqNK5XZ8.html Great example of riff-building for a long time (10 minutes... though some tracks spend 20+ minutes building up!) before the song completely changes and you get 5 minutes of glorious non-shred solo. The Coats of Claude kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVjo9Nq1N_bcqs.html If you DO want shredfest over a backing track, this one is a gem. View Masters kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbFkiatz1d64eGw.html Starts quirky, but maybe not a great track... then at 2:43 all hell breaks loose and it's the greatest blues-rock solo you've ever heard Room of Illusions kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7OjhbWp1L2rpYk.html Essentially a one-track album. It's a grower. Mesmerising, hypnotic, and the last part (about a 12 minute very understated solo) is more like a guitar trying to express the meaning and illusions of life than a solo. Buildor kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLCjgLuI053KXXU.html One of Buckethead's best (IMO) one-track albums that is like a concerto of 2 movements for electric guitar I could go on and on. The man is a genius. Hopefully that list gives you something you like. I haven't covered even half of his styles, but you could find at least 30 albums to your taste for each of those tracks if you like them.

It depends, if it’s a song of long guitar solos then yes. If it’s riffing it’s different But he also has a lot of collabs with other musicians where they all play together so that’s different. He has too many different “schticks” but this is certainly the one he uses for long solos

His album “Pepper’s Ghost” for example, has almost no soloing and it’s mostly a lot of kick ass Progressive Riff compositions
